We stayed here because of its convienient location to the Black Swan. It's just over a mile walk and being a torch for the walk back. Check in is limited to between 2-4 and on the day we received an email asking us to confirm our arrival time. You check in at the counter of the tea rooms. The tea...

This is a difficult review for me to write. I'm going to give this generally delightful place a bad score for one single issue that kind of ruined my stay. My wife chose the inn as part of a surprise weekend treat for my 50th birthday. We spent the evening at the amazing Black Swan restaurant in nearby Oldstead. I'll...

We have been before and enjoyed the location and the whole B&B experience. Room was perfect with tea and coffee including fresh milk in the fridge. My wife said the décor was all quality including the mouseman furniture. Piping hot water for baths and showers, very comfortable bed and really nice breakfasts. Perfect poached eggs and good strong coffee set...

Byland Abbey, in North Yorkshire, is well worth a visit. If, like us, you are English Heritage members, the obvious place to go for a refreshing, post-visit, cuppa is the Abbey Inn, just across the road, also run by English Heritage. We did so, while on a family outing, this August. It will be the last time we do so....

Stopped on a Thursday afternoon for a cream tea but told we could have jam & cream but no scones??!No alternatives recommended & not at all friendly so we left. Found a delightful place (with scones!) in Coxwold instead.

We must have missed all the amazing food others have mentioned. The walkers special was very average . Soup and sandwich seems like a very good deal when you consider the drink included in price. However the sandwich does not have the nice salad the other sandwiches come with. Ham was nice but there was little of it between basic...

Thank you for your review and sorry to hear you did not enjoy the walkers special but i am afraid this does not come with salad, if you had requested some salad we could have made you a bowl to accupany your walkers. Please do visit us again.

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Ruins of the Abbey across the road. We decided to have the Yorkshire Platter. The food was delicious with more than enough for the 2 of us and the tea was superb. The staff were busy but still had time for everyone. An absolute delight

My husband and I arrived on a rainy day and were looking for somewhere to spend a few hours before checking in to our B & B in Ampleforth. Great menu for such a small place. Shame it was raining so heavy, the outdoor eating area looked lovely. We both had soup, pea and mint for me (yum) and tomato...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Abbey Inn is steeped in history - from evidence of a medieval hostelry beneath its foundations to the current building made from 'borrowed' stones from the ruins of Byland Abbey. Now imaginatively restored from its origins as a 19th-century farmhouse, the inn has been fully refurbished and furnished to create a wonderfully eclectic mix of old style architecture with modern amenities and facilities. We offer our guests a choice of three individually designed bedrooms - the Byland Suite, the Mouseman bedroom and the Kilburn bedroom, all with spacious en-suite bathrooms and lovely views. Our tearoom is dedicated to providing high quality food using fresh local ingredients. Yorkshire produces some of the finest food and drink in the country and we aim to offer you some of the best. Abbey Inn is nestled quietly at the foot of the Hambleton Hills, surrounded by the ruins of Byland Abbey and beautiful open countryside. ... more   less
