The George is a 17th Century coaching house which is now a locals pub with B&B accommodation above. I just needed a place to sleep for two days while I was out and about and at £40 a night it suited me fine. The staff are friendly and the building is quirky with sloping floors,

Over the years have regularly called in for a drink. The fausty, stale beer smell of the bar area has always put me off trying a real ale but ok for cider & generic mass produced lager. The whole place is pretty nasty really, not at all clean, very run down. Have always

Apologies you feel this way, you should pop in and try one of our lovely real ales (Prodimenantly from local breweries) some time, that we often receive fantastic compliments about how well they kept. It’s a shame you felt that there is a “clique” we see it more as a group of regular friendly locals that love to meet and mingle with new and old faces a like. One of the many reasons hotel guests feel so welcome and come back time and time again to stay. Unfortunately as much as we would love to stay open all night, our staff do have to get home and therefore have to stop serving at some point, apologies that you didn’t get served arriving at 23:10 when we stop serving at 23:00 and we had already started to clear down. We hope to welcome you in the future and you to see how our current undergoing refurb has changed The George Hotel. Dan

The hotel was clean, the service was variable in quality. The hotel is very tired looking and the room that we stayed in certainly needed a refurb, with particular attention been given to the en-suite. At £50 a night this hotel was way over-priced for the quality offered.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are currently undertaking a full refurb of the hotel (rooms and public areas) as you could probably notice as going through the corridors up to the rooms. We are currently half way through the bedrooms adn hope that you will visit us again in the future once the refurb is complete.

This place was not at all what I expected. Paint flaking off the walls. Towels in the bathroom which was a walk along the corridor, were so old and hard I think they would have stood up on end unaided. The only clean thing were the sheets on the bed. I was booked for 3 nights

Apologies but I struggle to agree with your review? We are a 17th century coaching inn and are currently in the middle of a large refurbishment. With your room freshly decorated within the last month (certainly no paint flaking!)(see Room 5 on our tripadvisor photos) The room you booked into you were aware was a non-ensuite room. “The long walk” you mentioned is approximately 15ft to your own private bathroom and towels are always supplied in the bedroom. It’s a shame that at no point or when you checked out did you mention any of your concerns so they could have been addressed immediately.

Visited this place on Friday, for a wedding. I booked a double room with a private bathroom. (Highly reccomended to get a private bathroom). Prior to arriving I had some serious doubts whether me booking here was a wise idea, after reading reviews here and on the website, but

Thank you Nathan for taking the time to leave such a great and in depth review. We really glad you enjoyed your stay and have taken your comments on board and now have markers on the key fobs to distinguish between the bathroom and bedroom keys on our non en-suite rooms. The rooms and public areas are currently undergoing a full refurb and we would be delighted if you would come again and see us in the future once this has been completed.
