Once again we received a warm welcome here as we have come to expect, and throughout our stay the friendly service was excellent. The evening meals and breakfasts each day were up to the usual standards. The hotel was very understanding when we had to return home a day early, we hope to be back again as there is plenty...

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel and we're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, despite it being less than peaceful! The Hotel is very old and the rooms are all different and some do have lower ceilings. When you come and visit us again (which we hope you will) do please ask for a...

We stayed here for one night as part of a party in readiness for a christening. Just everything was good from the welcome, a few drinks in the bar in the afternoon, through to the evening meal (which we had as a party) and breakfast through to checkout. Nothing seems to be too much trouble - in fact it really...

We have just returned from staying at The White Hart Hotel. We had a fabulous stay, the staff were friendly and extremely attentive, the room had a modern feel but retained its character and everything was clean and tidy. We ate a few times in the restaurant. The food was very nice. We can't fault this place and we will...

Warm welcome from Toby on reception, who was consistently professional and helpful. Very comfortable double room. Absolutely delicious dinner (starters, mains and desserts) and gorgeous poached eggs for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

We broke our journey to Cornwall by staying here and were so impressed we booked to stay on our return home as well. Cosy bar for lunchtime, very comfortable lounge area to sit and read menus prior to dinner and great dining in the restaurant. Lots to choose from on the menu. Clean and comfortable bedroom with good selection of...

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel and for giving us such a glowing report. We are indeed dog-friendly and, being set in the heart of Dartmoor, this helps make us a very popular venue for keen walkers and lovers of the countryside. We hope you will come and visit us again soon.

Our 7th visit (or thereabouts) and this lovely and friendly hotel never disappoints. The staff are extremely helpful and warm, the rooms are just right and the food is fabulous. We come to eat, relax and cycle from the town onto the moor. The hotel offers secure and dry bike storage. The bar is the most relaxing and convivial place...

We have been here to eat several times but this was the first time we have actually stayed here and a pleasant experience it was. The food was excellent as expected and they catered well for all of us, including two small children. We had a refurbished room which was very smart and comfortable with a good bed and decent...

Very welcoming traditional inn in a great location on Dartmoor. The family room was spacious but the high point was dinner which was gorgeous and I would rebook just to have another one of those. I understand you can also bring your dog here which is absolutely brilliant.

A return visit and again, it met all our high expectations. Booked only a few days before, a room and dinner special was available. Even with a large table enjoying themselves, we and other smaller groups of diners we placed in the other part of the restaurant to enjoy a fantastic meal. Well looked after by the attentive staff, excellent...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The White Hart Hotel is a traditional old posting house at the centre of the small moorland town of Moretonhampstead set within the spectacular Dartmoor National Park. Under new ownership since early 2012, the White Hart Hotel dates back to 1639 and this historic Grade II listed building is being sympathetically refurbished to provide all modern comforts within a traditional setting. Our comfy sofa-filled lounge has a roaring log fire where you can relax and combine the delights of a traditional cream tea with the convenience of free wifi. An ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area of Devon, the White Hart has 20 well-appointed bedrooms in the main hotel and a further eight in a separate mews building. Our restaurant features the freshest local, seasonal produce cooked in a style that lets the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. A free house, we stock a range of local real ales and have a handpicked wine list. DOGS - Dogs and Dartmoor go together. Dartmoor is great walking country and dogs are welcome everywhere in the hotel, except in the dining room. CYCLING - Dartmoor is a great area for cycling and we can offer secure bike storage, and have a drying room. SHOOTING - The area is popular for the sport of shooting and the Hotel is used regularly by shooting parties and we have a gun safe and have a drying room. GOLF - There are a number of good golf courses nearby and we can offer special rates with Bovey Castle Golf course, just 2 miles away, and Okehampton Golf Course, 12 miles away. ... more   less
