This place advertises northern light viewing when in fact it is not all that great due to excessive light pollution. the restaurant is sketchy as well, not a good variety and a pretty good price tag. the hot tub has no filter and was gross to say the least. nice staff and dece

Ion Adventure hotelwas a wonderful place. Very peaceful and relaxing visit away from everything. The workers were very nice and accommodating. The thermal spa pool was very relaxing in the cold air. Would definitely return for another visit. Thank you for a great stay.

Sometimes a hotel is an experience in itself, and that’s exactly what the Ion Hotel in Iceland is-an experience. Will definitely plan the next visit during Aurora season.

Such amazing views, beautiful and unpredictable weather!! I was so excited that decided to jump under the s

This hotel was a truly fabulous find. We stayed here for 3 nights and left this morning. We are still talking about what an incredible treat it was! The setting is dramatic, the hotel is stylish and the food was delicious. From the moment we walked through the door the servic

My husband and I stayed here for two nights to be on the Golden Circle, and it was the perfect location. The location was remote and we loved the spot to be in the midst of the Icelandic wilderness, away from any light pollution in order to see the Northern Lights and right on th

We will be staying at the ION for a few days in late October. Questions: Do they server breakfast and lunch at the restaurant? How long of a drive is it from the ION to Vik and Jokulsarlon? Could we visit those areas and drive back in one day? Do we need a tour guide to walk on the glacier? It seems like we miss the window on zodiac tours between the icebergs.
The hotel serves all meals and they are AWESOME but make reservations for dinner early. I definitely recommend a guide for the glaciers! As far as the drives, it is probably different from winter to fall and I went basically in the winter so I cannot give you en exact time.

We are planning to come in the begining of october and i was wondering if driving around iceland at that time of year is difficult? Meaning very icey and snowy? From new york and chicago if that helps to relate to driving conditions. Thank you
My fiance and I had a wonderful time driving around Iceland and we went in November. I highly recommend it as long as you are confident drivers. There is little traffic and other drivers are safe. 100% get a awd (all wheel drive) vehicle or 4 wheel drive. We had a Hyundai awd and it was great. You would not want a 2wd car in my personal experience, but we saw it often. We didn't have much snow until the end, but it is manageable. Biggest thing is it gets dark early, but take your time and you are good to go!!!! Also, we aw people renting camper vans and sleeping in those, looked like a reasonable idea. We loved the freedom of a car and drove most of the southern ring road. The northern part of the island and smaller roads will be in accessible. Cheers and have fun!!

Hi everyone, can anyone advise on the restaurant dress code for dinner on saturday night please? thanks in advance, sarah
Smart casual Didn’t see any signs or any true enforcement. But just by common sense. Smart casual will suit you just fine.

We are renting a car, driving to ION and planning to stay there a few days, since we're looking to enjoy the nature and maybe do some activities around there. That said, is there a lot to do within driving distance? We thought about doing one of the tours offered by ION, but just a Northern Lights one would cost £1,500! Are there any options of activities around there that are not as absurdly expensive?
Don't book a tour, we had a rental car and planned our own trip and drove to see things. It is not particularly close to the sites however, few hotels are so you will be driving 30min-1 hour regardless. We also did not find it to be as nice as we thought it would be. It is overpriced, we never ate there because the food was so expensive but drove back into the city, rooms are clean, it is a pretty location.

"North away from Geothernic Plant"
"The have rooms facing the mountain and the lake. Up to you to choose which view but make it known to the hotel early so it can be planned."
"The 2 sides of the hotel offer different views. One side, a lake in the distance the other a snow capped peak and the power plant."
"request a room facing the lake, NOT the power plant"
"Half the roons look at the geo-thermal power station - the biggest or second biggest in the country."
