I visited with my husband and another couple on our fourth night in Iceland. The staff were warm and friendly, the food was excellent and the Farmhouse was cute and quaint. The restaurant overlooks the barn, with a glass window giving you a look into what the cows are doing. So lovely to stay on a working farm, and to...

This is a remote rural location like a lot of other place outside of Reykjavik, very conveniently located on the route of the Golden Circle. It is far from major light pollution, so chances of seeing Aurora are much higher here than in more populated areas. The bungalows are small but very functional and very nice, you really don't need...

we stopped in on one of our site seeing trips and had lunch upstairs. It was late November, so we had the special Christmas beer with a delicious broccoli and cauliflower soup--great bread too! My daughter and her friend split a veggie burger. Great stuff. Afterward we went down to the creamery and had ice cream and pet the cows...

While we stayed at more "upscale" and modern hotels, such as the Fosshotel chain, we enjoyed our stay here the most because it was the best representative Icelandic experience: super super fresh food, friendly Icelandic family-owned business, lots of animals and very casual. The rooms are wooden cabins, geothermally heated floors, and very comfortable, each with its own shower/bathroom. Yes,...

A great hotel within easy driving distance from Reykjavik, but feels very remote. Very friendly and welcoming staff, and lovely cabins with fantastic underfloor heating. Breakfast was varied and an excellent start to the day. The restaurant opens for evening meals and is great, including a vegetarian option really apprecaited by my daughter. The internal windows facing the cow barn...

The rooms at the farm house are very comfortable and reasonably sized. It is really warm with under floor heating. The rooms have a good view over the valley. We stayed here for 3 nights and it is a great location to explore the area as well as relax at the farm itself. The breakfast is tasty. Staff are very...

This place is fantastic - easily the coolest and most enjoyable hotel I have ever been to. I had an amazing experience here and I would recommend it to anyone. Efstidalur is an actual working dairy farm with a small number of rooms, a restaurant, and an ice cream bar/cafe. The rooms are comfortable and cozy (ask for a room...

Was my second visit in 10 months. Pretty much a working farm, with restaurant attached to the barn. First time around I had the Icelandic meal, wonderful - great salad and soup, then lamb, trout (I think), mushrooms, potatoes. And of course their home made ice creams - salted caramel my favorite. So, in October I take my sons to...

We wanted to eat at an authentic Icelandic restaurant. We were also seeking super fresh ingredients. We are so glad we happened upon Farmhotel Efstidular. This beautiful property with spectacular views fit the bill. It has two restaurants on the property, a cafe and restaurant. The cafe has coffees, desserts and of course homemade ice cream and yogurt from their...

I am a photographer and I stayed 2 nights in this hotel during my round trip through Iceland. As I arrived in the night I was lucky to easily find the hotel. The rooms are cozy and offer a heated floor and it was overall clean. The apartment offers a shower which works fine, only the ventilation system is useless...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a family run business that offer comfortable stays in the Icelandic country side. We offer rooms with great views over the valley and are right in the middle of the Golden Circle route. We also offer a summer time horse rental with trips to a local waterfall, as well as our farm to table restaurant and coffee shop with home made ice-creams. Here people can see into our dairy and watch the cows whilst they eat the products that come from them. Everyone is welcome to stop by here at Efstidalur for a taste of the traditional Icelandic farm life. ... more   less
