Casa Palopo offers the traveler a safe and comfortable respite. The place is small and intimate with a beautiful view of Lake Attilan and its surrounds. It is tastefully furnished with comfortable beds, great linens, and spacious rooms. The food is delicious, the service excellent, and the staff is very helpful with whatever you want to do. The manager, Jennifer,...

Set on a hillside, each of the few rooms has a large patio overlooking the lake. The property is a large house with an annexe, sumptuously furnished, with just a few large rooms. The restaurant is excellent. We bought the hotel as part of a tour so don't know the price, probably not cheap but certainly a memorable place to...

With incredible views and artful decor, this restaurant could get away with serving tourist food. Instead, it offers creative cooking and excellent service. Let me repeat, the service was truly a cut above. The food was served surprisingly quickly and stylishly. The menu is fairly short but combines local flavors with lighter preparation styles.

This is a small but absolutely charming hotel. It has a good restaurant, a large and comfortable sitting room with a fire that does get lit every evening, a superb terrace overlooking Lake Atitlan, and a real feeling of warmth from all the staff. We stayed for three nights in a large, well-appointed bedroom with picture windows and its own...

We stayed at Casa Palopo for 3 nights with our 2 teenage kids. 5 to 7 nights or more would have been better. From the moment we walked in we were taken by the charm of this small hotel with its warm friendly staff and stunning lake views. The manager, Jiff, is an absolute gem with her great understanding of...

Take room no. 1 The Master suite. It looks out over the lake and is completely charming. This is a discreet Relais & Chateau establishment. Authentic, comfortable, friendly, opulent. The artwork is beautiful. This hotel manages to make you feel as though you are a special guest in a local home. First class food and wine. From here you can...

My family of 3 stayed at Casa Palopo just before Christmas and had an outstanding experience! We chose the option of flying to Casa Palopo from the Guatemala City airport in a helicopter - a bit extravagant but worth EVERY penny! The staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Every meal was delicious. The view from the...

We absolutely loved Casa Palopo. Everything about it was perfect for our family vacation. The villa is spectacular, and the staff goes far out of their way to make sure your stay is superb. Jennifer, the manager, is one of the best I have ever encountered. She is so knowledgeable about the area, has perfect english and spanish, and makes...

Got cut off somehow. The hotel is high (155 steps) on the hillside. There is a dock at which we met a boat to visit a couple of villages around the lake. Beautiful pool, maybe 20 yards long. I was told the lake has some contaminants but maybe not enough to hurt you.

Can't answer the hiking question. We went to the villages of Panajachel, San Juan, and Santiago (listed in order of preference).
