Has to be one of the best hotels in the world in terms of the view and the overall spiritual experience! It is perched right on a cliff on lake Atitan with fantastic views both at sunrise and sunset. 5 star quality food and great hospitality at fraction of a price you would play for in a luxury hotel in the US or any of the main cities! It takes a lot of effort and money to maintain a botique hotel like this and the others are doing a tremendous job! The helipad on site is such a convenience! The hotel needs to advertise that more on their web site! I would highly recommend the helicopter ride down the Guatemala City here compared to the windy 4 hr car ride! If there is a constructive feedback I would recommend the hotel to have buggy rides available of guest who might find it hard to trek up and down. I remember a hotel in Nepal having a similar steep setup and the buggy rides were super helpful!…
Rating/advertising/ price of this place as 5 stars misguide you. The overall impression is a dated hostel. Indeed there is a lake view but lake itself is far away. No beach, no docks , no boats. Not suitable for people with certain health issues like walking ( many steps up and down to get to different hotel facilities) or allergies ( room was impossible to stay in due to strong chemical smell ). No gardens/ backyard- like entrance, total fraud. Stayed for 20 minutes, left despite full payment been charged prior arrival.
You have to love this hotel because of its location: surrounded by rich foliage and enjoying a spectacular view over Lake Atitlan toward three volcanos. The staff, from the front desk to the dining room, were always friendly and accommodating. When a small issue arose, the young woman on reception was immediately on it and the issue was promptly resolved. The restaurant was excellent. The recently hired chef visited our table to introduce himself and chat briefly about how he sources fish, meat, fruits, and vegetables for his kitchen. You could easily spend an entire day on the delightful terrace enjoying the view and refreshing yourself with coffee/drinks/snacks from the bar and kitchen. Great place.
It’s not easy to find a relais & chateau hotel with a sight on a lake and couple of volcanoes. If you add a romantic veranda and a gentle and polite service and good food too to the menu you will find that the effort to reach it will have been worth your while.
We had dinner on the terrace last night. Everything was delicious and presented in an aesthetic manner. We had a bottle of Enemigo Malbec, the Ensalada 68, roasted cauliflower on sweet corn puree, a chicken risotto and an excellent Lomito porcini. For dessert we tried the bomba and a chocolate mousse. The waiter, Jairo, was attentive and good humored. Everything was delicious and made us feel as though we'd traveled for the meal. It's about two miles from our home. It is the best dining experience I've had all year. No, it's not cheap, but it's not overpriced either.
Good things: The view and the service of some members of the staff. Bad things: The food is overpriced a dinner plate with four small shrimps USD 30 from which I got food poisoning. The internet did not work at all and the manager just allowed us to connect to the functioning wi fi after I told her that I needed to sign some papers from work. No A/C so the rooms get very hot when is sunny and cold, when is cold. They include something calked "continental breakfast" without eggs and everyrhing else is extra. They tell ypu that you can pay in cash, but they forget to tell you that the dollar bills have to be in pristine conditions. The information about the local tours is incomplete. In summary for the price tag os an average USD 350 at night is not worth it.
Hands down one of the best stays! The property is beautiful and each room has its own design. There is also a 3br villa located at the top of the property, it has a pool and spectacular views. We absolutely loved our room, the Catarina Suite, we stayed four nights, it was very spacious with a huge terrace overlooking the lake and volcanoes. The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly, food is delicious and the drinks are awesome. The front desk arranged our trips to visit the other towns on the lake. This is a place I will never forget and cant wait to be back to. Perhaps the best in the lake.
This is a breathtaking hotel set high up looking out over the volcano flanked Lake. This is by far (from what I can see) the best hotel setting in the area. I stayed for 4 nights, which is an optimal length. Rooms 🛏 - STAY IN THE VILLA!! This is a separate 3 suite property set up from the main building. - Master Suite Atitlan 🚨where I stayed has the best view hands down and is set upstairs in the villa, so is quiet and secluded with its own private staircase. - My room had a gorgeous four poster bed, dyson hairdryer, large tub and shower looking out over the lake and different pockets of relaxation like the desk, seats, and balcony. Absolutely stunning. i do think the safe and fridge need to be replaced as neither worked. - The villa has a gorgeous living room, downstairs bathroom, smart kitchen, and a great balcony area, on top of the private balconies with sun beds and chairs. - 🤿 Do not waste time at the other pool, come to the infinity pool to relax and drink rose. 🍷 Food - Many reviews suggest the food is not good. I disagree. I agree that the menu is somewhat limited however they are very accommodating, and will make dishes on request and you can also order from the lunch menu (Tuna Tartare is a must). - The waiters’ English can be limited but I loved Jairo who was proactive and was always thinking about ‘what next’. - Wine list is pretty reasonable with good global coverage, but many wines weren’t available or chilled so be sure to check in advance so not to be disappointed. - A suggestion here for mgmt would be to have waiters equipped with recommendations and more detail on the dishes and how they come. I would also say to the chef (who I met and was lovely) that he should come out to greet guests every evening as it is a nice touch and people can give feedback. Sometimes, less is more when it comes to dishes…. - Breakfast is great with lovely fruit and bread complementary. Other than that, avo toast is different here and DELICIOUS. Activities 🥾 - The hotel can organise certain tours but they are a) well over double what you can source yourself in Pananchel, and b) limited in offering. - I would recommend mgmt consider improving their offering here or at least partner with other providers to widen the offering. Reception could also do with Concierge with good English to help guests more actively. General - Gardens are stunning, lush, and have nice private seating areas. I raised some of the improvement areas to Rosa, and she was most open to improving and very eager to understand. I must say overall this is an incredible hotel where I would love to get married!! A small pts would make this a 5.5 rather than a 4.5. Excited to come back in the future!…
An amazing place with a spectacular view, but the restaurant offers a poor service and even worst food. Even when the hotel is as unique as the location, can’t find a reason to eat there again. Local restaurants may offer an absolute better culinary experience.
Casa Palapo was the first stop on our honeymoon and what a fantastic start. It’s a beautiful hotel with stunning rooms. There was a great selection of in room amenities, I loved the soap/shampoo they had. Also never have I had a Dyson hairdryer in a hotel before, loved it!! All the staff were super friendly, the food was delicious. Hands down one of the best gluten free breads I’ve had that they served with breakfast. On hearing it was our honeymoon the manager even sent us a little something to our room which was great. The view from the infinity pool was out of this world (although it is a bit of a climb to get there but wasn’t an issue for us - just don’t forget your sunglasses before you head up there!!) The hotel is quiet and remote which is great to relax but equally town is only a short tuk tuk away (which you can book at reception) if you want to try somewhere else for dinner Finally - the views at this hotel are simply stunning! Highly recommend if you visit Lake Atitlan…
