I am rating my stay at LUSH a 5 out of 5!! Location, location, location!! Epic Views!! I am giving LUSH such a high rating because of the feeling you get when you leave this hotel - healthy, vibrant, and immersed. It provided me with an amazing getaway escape that integrated me more fully to the heart of Lake Atitlan. From the intricate decor details, to the nourishing vegetarian food options, lush jungle gardens, scenic views, Mayan cultural immersion the delightful service staff - you will feel immersed in an experience. This hotel is not without it's other perks - I did notice a compliant about the cold water one-time or insects/scorpions although this was very rare and resolved. But if you want to travel and get an experience of being in nature with the jungle where all of that exists, wouldn't you expect that from time to time? This was also a rare occurrence. I think people should be more open to co-existence with nature. I also think if this bothers you, you can be extra safe by bringing an insect repellant and leaving your suitcase on a chair/table just in case. It's not like this is anything out of the ordinary. If you want one thing it comes with all of this. I think people that complain in the reviews forget that this is also Guatemala with a different cultural perspective on amenities like this just not available 24/7 in all countries for various structural reasons. Be understanding, be happy, be grateful!! Enjoy life! People are trying their best with the resources available. Another thing is there is construction happening nearby since Lake Atitlan is becoming more tourist popular and this is only during the daytime - you can be out and about anyway. This doesn't have to do with this hotel. I personally don't travel to stay at 5 stars hotel, although I do love luxury and this hotel also provides that and loads of comfort and fresh towels and cleaning services daily!! Rather, I travel to learn more about myself and to connect with nature and to the people from different parts of the world - that's what you will find here. I have to add that the cave showers were something else and really fun!! If you speak Spanish that will be a huge plus but the staff also speaks English and is incredibly sweet. The staff will also carry your bags from your taxi all the way to your room, can you talk about exceptional service!! Some of mine and my friend's bags were also not the lightest so extra kudos haha!! Another huge perk is the hotel is family and locally-owned so you know your contributions are going to a great place to support a family, local business and local Guatemalans as part of the staff. I loved staying here and will continue to recommend to all my friends. They made me feel welcomed and at home!! Thanks for taking such good care of me LUSH!!! Would love to be able to come back one day!! Beautiful beautiful hotel. Cheers! <3

I spent 3 nights here with friends in the Cascada and the stay was underwhelming. First off there was inconsistent hot water. One shower was about 60 seconds of hot water, one was zero hot water, and another was about 90 seconds of hot water. The stairs to and from the room are treacherous when dry and crazy dangerous after a rain. This is because the rise and tread aren't uniform, the flimsy handrails (when they even exist) are too low to use comfortably, and the lighting on the steps doesn't illuminate the steps but instead blinds you as you're trying to maneuver the steps safely. The water in my room which is advertised as an "architectural feature" means the years of rain water running down the rock face inside the room has resulted in mold in places near where the water comes in and where it flows. You can hear normal volume conversations from the next rooms as there's no insulation. The kitchenette is sparse, you would have to bring lots of supplies yourself to use it to cook anything. I camp and rough it a lot, but the level of bugs was a bit ridiculous. I've stayed at eco lodges around the world which pride themselves on their natural insect control. It didn't appear to be happening with any success at Lush. The dinner menu is very limited, and we found it more expensive than other vegan restaurants in the village. I wouldn't stay here again and can't recommend it as it fell short on several levels. The bottom line for me was that the very few positives couldn't overcome the numerous negatives.

Lush Atitlan looks like it grew organically out of the mountainside, which was both the visual theme and the motif for the four nights I spent there. The food was wonderful, the setting was magical, and when my first room didn't work for me, they took care of me in a new room immediately. I can't wait to go back!

Great accommodations close to the heart of San Marcos! The location is perfect - just far enough out of the main streets to be quiet, but a close 5-10 minute walk to the main shopping and restaurant streets. It’s also about 5 min from the public pier. We easily walked to Eagle’s Nest as well. The hotel itself is surrounded by beautiful lush greenery. My friend and I stayed in Granadilla, which was more than enough space with a double bed and a separate twin bed. I will note that there was a fair amount of bugs and a good amount of noises such as roosters crowing and dogs barking in the night. We were also awakened by a squirrel running across our plastic roof in the morning. But I think that’s to be expected :) The included breakfast was phenomenal! I loved the pancakes and the non-dairy lattes (not included but very reasonably priced) were also very unique and delicious. They were also very kind and obliged us when we asked about cocktails, and made us some mezcal drinks as well. Overall, it was a lovely stay and couldn’t have been more perfect for the first leg of our stay at the lake!

Lush is just under 10 minute walk up a narrow muddy path from the lancha dock in San Marcos - an amazing adventure into serene quiet surroundings. This hotel was amazing value for money. We got an Uber from Antigua to Panajachel, lots of lanchas from Pana to San Marcos, we did not have to wait for long. Lush has beautiful gardens! We stayed in the "cave" room which we loved! Cosy but atmospheric, and the rocks felt like they kept the room cool. I am almost 6 foot and I didn't feel cramped at all, but it is a quirky space. The breakfast was amazing - especially if you have dietary requirements - almost everything is gluten-free and vegan. San Marcos is easy to walk around and we felt safe the whole time. The nature reserve is only 50 metres from Lush and is a must-do! Stunning vistas, beautiful bushwalks, and a 12 metre diving platform for the adventurous - but there is an easier way to enter the water for the not-so-adventurous! Water was beautiful and clear, and refreshing! Easy boat ride to San Juan - highly recommend visiting this town. Timetable is fairly loose depending on how busy it is. We got the last boat from San Juan back to San Marcos at around 5:30pm, roughly 20-25 quetzales per person.

We booked one of the most expensive rooms for 2 nights. Upon arriving back to our room after dinner we were greeted by multiple large banana spiders and scorpions in our room. Crawling on our luggage and bedding. We were distraught and terrified. At this point we were unable to get a reservation at another local hotel, the front desk staff assured us that we would get a full refund upon checking out the next day. The next morning the staff informed us that we will NOT be refunded after being lied to the night prior. We were forced to pay for an additional night when we originally were told otherwise. Horrible customer service. In addition- the wifi is extremely spotty for anyone that has to work, it will not suffice. Construction of a new building next door begins at 8 AM so don’t expect to sleep in. DO NOT overlook negative reviews. We were naive. I STRONGLY advise not booking. Can sleep in the woods with bugs for free.

The reviews are accurate. The room (sonrisa) was wonderful, large windows - it felt as if you were in the garden; minimalistic, clean, with all the necessities; designed with god taste; bathrooms are also unique and spacious. The garden and balconies with the view. Like other reviews, the WAY TO THE HOTEL left you wanting. Luckily I payed a young boy to carry my luggage to the hotel, on the narrow, and dusty path. The entire town near the water is a maze of paths. As well, when I left, he pick up from My room and carried it to the boat dock. The local Guatemalan staff were more than pleasant and helpful. Restaurant food, not impressed. Overall it was a nice stay! Also, San Marcos Reserve is right next door - the best swim and walk in nature. It is well Maintained, clean and complimentary entrance by Lush.

So....no one tells you how hard it is to get to the grounds. Once you're there, the grounds are beautiful. Parking is nowhere near the hotel, but they do have someone come with a dolly and take your luggage to the hotel (not to your room). Very little lighting on your walk into the property. Watch your step as there are dogs everywhere. Yes, they provide breakfast with your stay, but it is vegan so the menu is very limited. The food you do get, is very tasty. The staff is extremely friendly. We stayed in the Sirena Suite and at $200 a night, it wasn't worth the money. The best part of that room is the shower by far! They do have hot water and it's very spacious. Cut into the rocks of the mountain, it was like no other we've stayed in. We had our son with us so we needed the extra bed. What you also don't know or really see from the photos is that the upstairs room in that suite is not enclosed. The top part of the room is open to the elements and becomes extremely cold this time of year. Our son was up all night cold, listening to howling dogs and being eaten by mosquitos even though we used repellent. It made for a very very unpleasant night. He eventually moved into our room, but the night was lost. The 60 stairs up to that suite are very steep and not well lit. I recommend anyone staying in this room, be very very careful. They get slippery when they're wet which makes them more dangerous.

Staying at Lush was one of the most amazing experiences. The rooms are simple and straightforward and you are literally surrounded by beautiful flowers and gardens. The beds are comfortable, but I do have to agree with other reviewer‘s that you can hear the conversations of the guests in the room next to you. The walls are pretty thin. The breakfast is great, make sure you try the Chia seed pancakes, they are to die for. The dinner menu left a lot to be desired so my friend and I dined at neighboring restaurants. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Lush is conveniently located a five minute walk from the port, however you will have to walk through several alleyways to get there. My friend and I felt relatively safe but make sure you bring a flashlight so you can see at night.
