From our first moment arriving the staff was amazing, and accommodating. They helped us with our large roll luggage up to our room, which was 2 minute walk through beautifully landscaped oasis with flowers and huge leafed plants. The rooms were very clean, the shower had hot water, the views from our private balcony of the lake was very pretty.
The restaurant was amazing, great choices from wraps, Currys, and a dinner menu absolutely worth signing up for. The dinner atmosphere was incredibly romantic.
They have beautiful areas to loung and great dock for swimming and sun bathing.
The bathrooms are not open air, but also not sealed so be prepared for a kinda bungalow style bathroom, which was still very nice with its large shower, clean sink and toilet, but maybe the occasional friendly spider.
We will absolutely be returning on our next trip.

We stayed at Isla Verde for three nights with our 6-years old daughter at the Garden Suit. We truly enjoyed every aspect of this charming hotel. Beautiful gardens, spacious room, incredibly comfortable beds, excellent location, which is quiet and close to the water, amazing service, and delicious food. Truly everything was outstanding. A special bonus were the Temeskal and hot tub which are located just above the lake, and are such a phenomenal way to wrap up a day filled with activities! Try out yoga on the deck overlooking the lake and mountains, follow that by Temeskal and dinner at their romantic, candle lit, restaurant and you’ll feel what vacation is supposed to feel. We highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back!

The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They go above and beyond to make you feel at home. The food is so good and the drinks don’t disappoint either. The huts are charming, comfortable, and perfect for a quiet retreat. I love that they have a small gift shop. The pizza night we had was beyond my dreams! Thank you for a wonderful stay Sofia and Riley!!!

The hotel is nice but thats it. The bathrooms smelled bad... something with the plumbing was leaking. They don't have hot water... only luke warm if any at all. The guest service is questionable. They assign one menu only for dinner and will NOT take into account any dietary restrictions. The answer was basically so sorry for your loss... go figure what to eat elsewhere (there are no restaurants close by, only by boat and at night its not easy to get a water taxi) We ended up going into Panajachel in the morning to buy bread, ham and cheese in order to have something to eat for dinner.
Did not feel welcome. Not planning in going back.

maybe this is nice for lake atilan standards, but i really find it hard to believe how many good reviews it has received. much more like a hostel than a hotel. the landscaping is beautiful, and the staff seem to genuinely care, and the food is better than decent, but everything else is awful. the hike to the cabins is significant. and there are no hand rails or lighting, so it is dangerous at night, and not for anyone who isn't accustomed to hiking high elevations. the beds are ancient- the coils of the springs were literally poking out through the sheets. the sheets- i have never seen anything so cheap, and same for the towels. scorpions and spiders everywhere. there was no hot water. wild pack of dogs that barked all day and all night. the staff is very present, but has no evident experience of service. for example, we were there for a week, 3 meals a day, and EVERY time we had to ask for hot sauce. so easy to put on the table when setting, but they didn't have that foresight. our group would fill up water before yoga, emptying the container, and after yoga, we ALWAYS had to ask to replenish, same with coffee. it seemed like they used "eco" as an excuse for cheap. the hot tub looked dirty and didn;t work consistently. the lighting in the room was terrible- you couldn't see at night to read or write, it was so dark. not much to do outside of the location. i can see that this has opportunity, but it fell very short of meeting my low expectations. i feel like lake atilan as a whole can be done in a day trip.

The lady in reception was so arrogant and disrespectful that it was offensive.
After communicating we had no hot water in the shower, she said they’ll fix it but they did not. And when we asked about it again, her response was that they’re an “eco lodge “ and even she herself take cold showers!!
It was a rip off, súper expensive and did not really worth what we paid.
We certainly Did not feel welcome, won’t recommend or be back to that place ever again.

We just loved the great vibes of that place: beautiful view and tropical garden, great food, very kind staff, nice and cosy atmosphere. The room also was just great. We spent 5 days and loved every minute. Thank you all @islaverde, we will come back!

The hotel is not for any start it all!!!! the service is not good, the rooms ( like cabins) are not clean, we found spiders all over the place, poor maintenance in the rooms not enough curtains in the windows so you can sleep late if you want to, there is not choice in the menu and expensive, once you are in there you are stoked and have not choice!!! even didn't provide a single towel for anyone of my family group the experience is just inexplicable how stress it was. We made reservations throughout the Hotels.com and when got there there were not the rooms booked available, it seams that they don t take care of their reservations as they should so they give us a room with share bathroom!!!! in the top of the mountain!!! definitely not recommended not even for eco friendly people!!!! BE CAREFUL WITH THE EXTRA CHARGES and be aware that they don't accept credit cards!!! so be ready with cash or just try another hotel..

Upon arrival the manager was friendly but provided no extra information. For example, I had to ask how to catch a water taxi. And, I was never told which towns along the lake were worth visiting. I asked a few basic questions about internet and meals and then I asked "What else do I need to know?" And he responded with "What do you want to know?" As a visitor, it is hard to know what you do not know! It turns out that I needed to know not to keep the windows open all night because there are no screens and the sand flies (or similar biting creature) attacked me one night and the itching was horrendous. I also needed to know not to use their sink water to brush my teeth since I was extremely sick and feverish one full day. As a single traveler at such a small hotel, I was saddened that on my sick day they offered no assistance to me for medication or rehydration fluids. They did accommodate me with the pre-set dinner meal and made me soup instead which was very nice.
Also, I was disappointed that upon booking my trip and paying 50% through paypal (the only option I was offered for how to pay) that Isla Verde had me pay the paypal fee. When I was checking out at the end of my stay I specifically asked if using my credit card there would be a fee on their end (I have a travel credit card that does not charge me a fee on my end). I was told "I don't think there is a fee." Sure enough, there was a 4% fee through Tab, their choice of a payment system. I would have paid cash if I'd known these things.
The food was good, the view was spectacular, and the yoga was top notch. However, I would not recommend Isla Verde as there are SO many other options. (Did you look on Airbnb yet?) You can easily stop by Isla Verde for an 8am yoga class and lazy brunch one day.
Also, the website does say this, but it is no joke that my room was about 200 steps up the mountainside. If steps are an issue, talk to them about a room lower down the mountain. Currently (March/April 2016) they are doing construction to build new lodging closer to the lake and the construction noise was not very nice.

We decided to stay at isla verde because of the website and reviews.
The place is nice, you get a neat view of the lake. Although you have to go up like 100 stairs or more. We didn't have an issue with the room, is pretty much a cabin with a private bathroom and a view.
HOWEVER, the first night we decided to order the 100q dinner. While we were eating I stated hearing what I thought it was a rat noise. Noticing the loud noises I started staring at the ceiling where I saw a rat pass by. I immediately got up and told one of the staff members, which her response was "we are in nature". Which has nothing to do with nature, since we've stayed in a lot of Eco hotels and have never experience that. We also told the owner and he didn't seem to be preoccupied by that even after my boyfriend told him he had saw 3 rats and even the tale of one. After that we decided to go to bed when at about midnight we started hearing the same noises form the room ceiling and something moving.
The next morning I noticed I had rat feces on the skirt I've used the night before. We went down to check were we have sat and noticed that there were tiny feces all over the floor. Then again the second night we did not order dinner and went to the room only to heir again the squeaky noises of the rats.
Overall that killed our experience at isla verde. But I also have to add that everything has an extra charge, yoga class the sauna the jacuzzi, and the prices are not cheap. There's only one choice for dinner for a 100q and is not that good food. Like in some other hotels were you have options and if possible you can have seconds.
The staff was not helpful with our concern about the rats, and claiming they didn't knew its a lie since we noticed only being there for 6 hours. That only shows their lack of cleaning habits and service they give.
I WILL NOT RETURN NOR RECOMMEND IT. In fact I placed complain on DIACO.

Many steps to the lower rooms and mucho mas steps to the upper rooms. A trip to Guatemala is a good reason for boosting your exercise before you come. Lots of hills here.

Yes, you can jump off the dock, or climb down the ladder off the dock. I also used the ladder on the next dock down, at the kayak rental place. Swimming was nice.

Hello, I'm a 28 year old female and I stayed at Isla Verde during the summer of 2014. The best way to arrive at the hotel from the airport: -Take a shuttle from the airport to the public boat docks in Panajachel (this will take between 2 and 3 hours depending on the route; all of the shuttles will drop you at the docks and/or within walking distance of the docks); -You can reserve a shuttle in advance, or simply arrange for one in the airport lobby (lots of options, you won't be left stranded); -From Panajachel, take a public boat to Santa Cruz la Laguna (when you arrive at the dock, several men will run up to you and ask you where you want to go - that's their job; tell them that you would like to take a public boat to Santa Cruz la Laguna and they will direct you to a boat; public boats are super cheap and they'll quote you the honest price, private boats are quite costly - it's up to you) -The boats leave approximately every 20 minutes Walking on the trails alone: -Ask around when you arrive, crime rates seem to vary from month to month; -I walked on the trails alone without incident (I carried cash and a water bottle; no camera, no phone, et cetera); -Nevertheless, nonviolent muggings are quite common. When hiking alone, you should expect to encounter a robber. If you are concerned about security, there are tons of inexpensive guided hiking opportunities available; -Robbers will not approach people hiking in groups. I did a three-day trek from Xela to Lago Atitlan through Quetzaltrekkers.
