If Lake Atitlan is the most beautiful of lakes, than the Iguana Perdida is the perfect place to realize this. From there you see all three volcanoes which make this lake such a magic place - from the shore opposite you won't! This place has no WiFi and that is symptomatic. They say, they like giggles more than google, want...

I only came to this place because it provided a PADI open water certification opportunity in conjunction with accommodation in their no-electricity open air dorm. $240USD for the PADI with Oliver...super worth it. Loved my four nights here. Scant outside accommodations like food and so on in this village so they offer a full menu until 3pm and dinner nightly...

Everyone is very friendly in this place, they make a dinner where you can meet a lot of people. When I was there, there was live music played by some guests and there was also a custome party. The view of the lake is amazing and its very relaxing to wake up with the sounds of the birds.

Staying in Santa Cruz at La Iguana Perdida was the highlight of my recent 3 week trip in Mexico and Guatemala. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere (and no wifi policy) along with the family style dinners (delicious and fresh food!) allowed me to meet a lot of interesting fellow travelers. The location on Lake Atitlan is stunning as well! I...

We just returned from our stay at La Iguana Perdida Hotel. Group Size: My wife and I along with our tweener kids and wife's parents stayed a night here. Reservations: Even before arrival, the staff at La Iguana Perdida was ensuring our stay was a success as they had a large group staying at the same time and the 2...

For a week, I ate all my meals here while staying at one of the manager's rental properties. I loved the food, the ambiance, the staff, the vibe. The community dinners are great and give you an opportunity to meet other travellers and expats. The crowd is multigenerational (4-88) and multinational. After travelling to some other villages on the lake,...

My fiancee and I were staying next door at Arca and decided to stop over for La Iguana's set "family style" dinner. The dining area is set up in a way that food is either family style on the table or set up at a buffet. We sat at a table with a few travelers and ended up having good...

We found La Iguana Perdida online after deciding that we wanted to get married at Lake Atitlan. We sent an email asking if a wedding could happen and received a resounding YES as a response. Not only could a wedding happen, we were steered toward a beautiful garden where the ceremony could take place (Jeanne's house), hooked up with a...

Considered spending a single night at Lake Atitlan, ended up staying a week. This place is great - the social aspect, the food, the staff, all surpassed any expectations. The location is lakefront and tranquil, with day hikes to nearby towns easy and scenic. I stayed in the open-air dorms and never regretted it. There are insects, but you're in...

This is a great hostel located in undoubtely the most beautiful location on lake atitlan. The rooms are basic, but clean & rustic, the views amazing, the people friendly...it has so much going for it! Only negatives are ....the food in the restaurant (which is one of the only places to dine here) is expensive...compared to the accommodation...so the stay...

Thank you for your review, both the positives and the negatives. I am surprised that you could hear music from the restaurant all the way from your room, perhaps it was from the tuk tuks across the road.........we will have to check it out and see, so thanks for bringing that to our attention. The food is cheaper here than...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On the idyllic north shore of Lake Atitlán, Santa Cruz has long been a favorite destination for international tourists, back-packers and locals who want to get away from it all.And for more than fifteen years, La Iguana Perdida has been one of the main reasons for the popularity of this unique oasis, thanks to owners Deedle and Dave. The choice of lodging runs the gamut, from big dormitories, to luxury rooms with a private bath, balcony and lake views, to a rustic cabin. Seven bathrooms are scattered around the spacious property, all with hot water. The climate is perfect for lounging in a hammock or comfortable chair all day. La Iguana Perdida is one of the best places to enjoy the beauty and serenity that Lake Atitlan has to offer.A Yoga session on the deck is a good way to start the day. Next you can go kayaking, or follow shaded trails and paths with picnic spots for along the way. After a day of hiking or kayaking, treat yourself to a wood-fired sauna or a massage. Water Sports, ScubaATI Divers, based at Iguana and with an office in Panajachel, has many options for scuba diving and snorkeling. ATI Divers operates a number of PADI scuba diving courses include certification in high altitude diving as well as other courses for professionals. Lake Atilán is one of the few places on the planet where you can swim amongst huge underwater volcanic formations and petrified trees, and actually feel hot volcanic mud on the lake bottom. Fish, crabs and other marine life add to the color. World Famous BBQ The restaurant offers inexpensive breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a delicious three-course meal with an option for vegetarians. Meat-eaters: don’t miss Saturday night’s all-you-can-eat barbecue, topped off with chocolate brownies. Theme parties, poker games, and other entertainment round out the La Iguana Perdida experience in Santa Cruz, one of Guatemala’s top vacation destinations. ... more   less
