What a fabulous place to watch a lunar eclipse. Staff, food and grounds are outstanding. Take a walk thru the reserve to the lake overlook and try to take a photo of one of the many hummingbird on the way. Visit the nearby village CECAP cafe for great food and local handmade items. Book directly with the lodge and coordinate Guatemala airport transfers (included). Plan on 2-2.5 hrs each way. Also of note the 20 min boat transfer starts about 8 am so plan flights accordingly. Overall a great relaxing lodge and place to see a lunar eclipse

We staid in the Jaguar suit! Nice big upstairs room with stunning views and private balcony! Spacey bathroom as well. Daily filtered water is included and available anytime. The staff is friendly and accommodating! We had the all inclusive package, breakfast/lunch/dinner, which we got vegan and gluten-free! Great and wide variety of food every day! The four course dinner is fantastic! They even prepared a lunch for us that we could take with us when we left for the day. There is a trail right behind the lodge. Nice two hour loop up and down the mountain with amazing views of the lake! If you take a left towards No. 6 it’s pretty steep up the hill. Another awesome trail leads along the the lake all the way to Tsununa for about 6 miles. No mosquitos anywhere as it’s too high elevation. See pictures with more detailed description of the trails or check my AllTrails review. It gets a bit cooler in the evening, hence bring pants and a light jackets. Want to catch a water taxi, just wave and one will pull in. It’s Q25 per person. No need to book the private one. Highly recommend the private boat for your arrival and departure which is nice. Diego will take good care of you and your luggage.

The location and the views of this lodge are amazing and very beautiful the location was close to the marina as well. The personal is super friendly and always ready to help. The reason I only give It 3 starts is because this place is under manage and under staffed. The rooms were not keep very clean and towels were not change. Pricing on any activity they offer is probably 3 to 4 times higher Than the locals will charge for the same activity. This is not about the great people working there this is about upper management not hiring enough people and not maintaining the place as a 5 star lodge.

TLDR: Laguna Lodge is a wonderful vegetarian/vegan lodge with an incredible view, hiking trails right on property, and delightful staff. We traveled to Laguna Lodge in late May/early June 2022. We specifically picked it because of the gorgeous location (on Lake Atitlán) and the fact that they cater to vegan and vegetarian diets. Lake Atitlán is isolated, so getting there requires a two-and-a-half-hour drive and a ten-minute boat ride to the lodge (both available for a fee through the lodge, which we did). As soon as you arrive at the lake, the view is stunning, with multiple volcanos along the lake. The quick boat ride had us at the lodge in no time, the thatched roofs coming into view as we pulled up to the dock. We were greeted with fresh watermelon juice and a tour of the small property, including the restaurant, two open shared living spaces, and our room (with large private bath and balcony). Clean water is provided in the room and throughout the property and alcoholic beverages are available at the bar inside the restaurant. The vegan food was great. We paid for all our meals in advance, breakfast, lunch, and a four-course dinner each night. Breakfast and lunch can be ordered off the menu and there are many options. I loved the French toast. The dinners were creative and always had soup, salad, entrée, and dessert. Language was sometimes a challenge. My Spanish is minimal and that’s the case with English for much of the staff. Lesly, though, who was managing the front desk most of the time we were there, speaks English well enough and she was incredibly helpful. And while Diego (our boat driver), Francisco, and Cruz (the latter two working in the restaurant) didn’t speak much English, they were wonderful and patient as I used Google Translate to communicate. While we didn’t pay for any of the excursions, we did get around on foot a good bit. The property’s reserve is quite large, and the hikes are strenuous. We probably did over 8 hours of hiking on the trails spread out over three days. There’s a lot of elevation, so it’s not a casual hike. We saw tons of cool birds, plants, and bugs. There’s also a trail from the lodge to Santa Cruz (around a mile) that is flat and runs along the lake. It lets you see many of the lodgings along the lake, some beautiful plants and flowers, and lots of birds. And if you feel like a strenuous uphill climb, you can walk up into the village of Santa Cruz (we didn’t). There are water taxis that will transport you to the villages that sit along the lake. There are quite a few. We took the taxi to San Juan. The boat ride was incredibly rough and painful, so be aware of that in case you have a particularly bad back or fragile body (the return ride was smooth, though). Overall, we had a wonderful time. Our room was plenty big and comfortable. The food was tasty. The location was gorgeous. The staff was delightful and helpful. I highly recommend Laguna Lodge and would absolutely visit again.

I choose this hotel inspired by the pictures I saw on the internet. But once I arrived, I found out that the breakfast was not included and the amenities, such as the pool should be paid. The second day my husband asked for a soup and it took to be ready two hours. The sheets never being changed for three days, same as the towels. And even worse, one of the towels had a big yellow stain.

The Lodge is beautiful with stunning views. However we were very disappointed with the food and, in particular, the service. The answer to most questions was ‘it’s not possible’. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned, for more soap, which was not regularly replaced, dirty cups were left lying around etc. After 9pm there were no staff to be found on site. The manager, Leslie was most unhelpful and some of the other staff tried their best but with lack of good management, they just didn’t seem motivated. Francesco was the exception. He was very helpful. The general manager was not on site and had no interest in speaking with us by phone when we asked for her. I had a fall while there but they had no first aid kit on site. And these are only some of the issues we experienced. I would save your money and stay at Sunset Lodge instead. They are warm, friendly, inviting and willing to go that extra mile. All these attributes were lacking at the Lodge so we spent a lot of our spare time at Sunset as we just didn’t feel welcome at Laguna. I’m afraid this Lodge is simply not worth the money they charge

I loved my stay at Laguna Lodge on Lake Atitlan. The resort helped me organize transportation to and from the lake, the suites are spacious and luxurious, food is excellent and the hotel can organize any activity you have your mind set to. Laguna Lodge is situated near Santa Cruz, but you do need to take a boat to get to any of the other villages along the lake. I loved how the resort has it's own dock that the public boat goes to. Overall, my stay at Laguna Lodge was very cozy and everyone was warm and welcoming. I also love how it's a sustainable hotel!

We had the best stay at this gorgeous lakeside property. Lovely rooms with incredible lake views, an entirely veggie restaurant with great food for both lunch and dinner and really friendly staff. Totally recommended.
