Detailed Reviews
We spent the last two nights of our honeymoon at Laguna Lodge and the staff could not have been more hospitable, friendly and willing to go the extra mile. The hotel is well located on a beautiful quiet part of the lake near Santa Cruz with excellent panoramic views over the lake and volcanoes. The 15min water taxi journey to and from the hotel from Pana went very smoothly. The hotel restaurant provides flavourful vegetarian options and the home grown coffee is also a highlight. It was great to see that the hotel is also going above and beyond to support the local community and environment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely location but a bit overpriced. As it’s hard to walk to other restaurants along rocky path in the dark after the lanchas stop you have to eat in their restaurant. Food reasonable but again overpriced relative to other options around.
The hotel is right on the lake edge and has a hiking trail up the mountain behind but no garden or shady space to sit. The 6 suites are stacked on top of each other and there is another building with accommodation virtually attached on one side so you feel crammed together- and after 2 instances of noisy neighbours you realise you are staying very close to others. But the lake edge setting does make for amazing sunsets.

We visited Laguna lodge for our first time this spring, and had the most incredible time. This hotel is tucked into the hillside on the shores of lake atitlan and offers the most incredible views!!!
Here are a few reasons why we fell in love with this special spot:
First and most importantly, Laguna is a an eco lodge that prioritizes sustainability over profit 100% of the time. If you value our planet, seeking out locations that practice sustainable hospitality should be important to you. Sustainable travel is the ONLY way to go moving forward - our planet depends on it. Laguna uses solar energy to power their hotel, serves a vegetarian menu (evidence shows that a plant based diet drastically decreases our carbon footprint), and has locally sourced every item in their hotel! Their eggs are from the village near by, their produce is grown locally, the bed runners were woven by local Mayan women, their staff (who is more like family) are all local and have been a part of their team for decades. Every little detail has been thought of and it is all part of their sustainable design.
🌅 The views. San Pedro volcano towers in the distance along with Atitlan and Toliman. We had coffee every morning over looking the lake, and sat on our deck to soak in the sunset every evening. I never once tired of the jaw dropping views.
🥾 The hiking. Laguna lodge is home to its very own nature preserve. A network of safe hiking trails are accessible right from the lodge. We enjoyed hiking up over the ridge, and lounging in the hammocks they have set up. Additionally, you can arrange a guided hike up the volcanoes or several other hikes right from the front desk.
🚣 The water activities. Kayaking or paddle boarding this lake is an incredible experience. The water is calmest in the mornings, and the quiet that covers the lake is therapeutic.
💫The amenities. After a day of hiking nothing feels better than a dip in their gorgeous infinity pool, followed by a soak in the river rock hot tub.
Laguna Lodge was one of our very favorite locations - I know you will just love it too!

The property is tastefully designed and in a wonderful location. Our kids enjoyed jumping off the docs into the lake. Meals were enjoyable and their dedication to sustainability is noteworthy. The only reason that I gave it 4 instead of 5 is that we didn't see the owners at all during our stay, even though they apparently live on the lake. The service would have been a bit better had they been there. Also, we asked to organize an activity for our daughters birthday. We asked to bake a cake and even though the staff tried, and we were charged for this, the cake came out basically inedible. I felt we should not have been charged for this in the first place, especially given the outcome.

We staid in the Jaguar suit! Nice big upstairs room with stunning views and private balcony! Spacey bathroom as well. Daily filtered water is included and available anytime. The staff is friendly and accommodating!
We had the all inclusive package, breakfast/lunch/dinner, which we got vegan and gluten-free! Great and wide variety of food every day! The four course dinner is fantastic! They even prepared a lunch for us that we could take with us when we left for the day.
There is a trail right behind the lodge. Nice two hour loop up and down the mountain with amazing views of the lake! If you take a left towards No. 6 it’s pretty steep up the hill.
Another awesome trail leads along the the lake all the way to Tsununa for about 6 miles. No mosquitos anywhere as it’s too high elevation.
See pictures with more detailed description of the trails or check my AllTrails review.
It gets a bit cooler in the evening, hence bring pants and a light jackets.
Want to catch a water taxi, just wave and one will pull in. It’s Q25 per person. No need to book the private one. Highly recommend the private boat for your arrival and departure which is nice. Diego will take good care of you and your luggage.

My boyfriend and I visited Laguna Lodge for the first time this summer and the stay did not disappoint! The views of the lake and the surrounding volcanoes are absolutely stunning. The service is incredible as well and there are many activities to do (we greatly enjoyed kayaking on the lake from the hotel). The resort is also on a nature reserve and has a private trail head entrance. Maps are available at the front desk.
Breakfast is included with the stay however dinner is not. They also serve tea and cookies every evening and morning. Just to be aware, only vegetarian food is served. The resort is also a short boat ride away from the surrounding towns. You can rent either a private boat or take the public boat (which is 25 quetzales/person one way). It is very easy to flag down a boat, we just stood on the dock and waved and were easily able to obtain a ride.
We also visited San Pedro for the day to hike up Volcan San Pedro (which we were easily able to book with a guide through the hotel) and the next day for a stroll around town. There are NO ATMS in town to take out money. However you are able to exchange cash at many of the activity shops in town right off the main dock.
We had a wonderful stay and already look forward to visiting Lake Atitlan again!

We had not seen Guatemala before and found the laguna lodge in a NatGeo magazine, so got our covid test and flew down....What a wonderful week! Exploring the local culture in the surrounding villages and hiking san pedro volcano with Pablo, which was an amazing experience with views to further volcanos and the coast! The lodge is made from adobe in a hacienda style and furnished with a unique eco-lux ambience. The restaurant was extraordinary and the menus varied and to top it off were served by lovely Glenda and Francisco. Our suite the quetzal was spacious and immaculately presented with views directly over the water to the volcanos, magical sunsets included! We will be back and recommending this special place to our friends and fam, 5 star service from a 5 star eco-lodge!!!

The Lodge is beautiful with stunning views. However we were very disappointed with the food and, in particular, the service.
The answer to most questions was ‘it’s not possible’. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned, for more soap, which was not regularly replaced, dirty cups were left lying around etc. After 9pm there were no staff to be found on site.
The manager, Leslie was most unhelpful and some of the other staff tried their best but with lack of good management, they just didn’t seem motivated. Francesco was the exception. He was very helpful. The general manager was not on site and had no interest in speaking with us by phone when we asked for her.
I had a fall while there but they had no first aid kit on site.
And these are only some of the issues we experienced.
I would save your money and stay at Sunset Lodge instead. They are warm, friendly, inviting and willing to go that extra mile. All these attributes were lacking at the Lodge so we spent a lot of our spare time at Sunset as we just didn’t feel welcome at Laguna.
I’m afraid this Lodge is simply not worth the money they charge

My wife and I consider ourselves avid travelers and we have stayed in some majestic locations but nothing has ever come close to the Laguna Lodge. The food was superb, the staff amazing and the grounds themselves were other worldly. The LL has thought of everything to deliver a culturally authentic and luxury experience.
Situated right on the shores of lake Atitlan In Guatemala, is a boutique resort with unforgettable views and amenities. Our family took advantage of the hiking on their safe private nature reserve, took a dip in the handmade stone hot tub with Mayan jungle ambiance, and laid out by the pool overlooking the lake.
All that being said, I haven’t even talked about the most extraordinary part! This little slice of paradise is a sustainable eco-lodge! We were in awe of the delicious vegetarian meals and witnessed daily the hotel’s sustainability practices without sacrificing an ounce of luxury.
If you are looking to feel good and do good all at once, visit this amazing eco-lodge.

We had a really nice two night stay here back in March. Beautiful property with a nice loop to walk and great room with a view of the lake. We loved it. The staff there were very kind. Boats come by frequently (just wave them down) so easy to get to other cities on the lake.

I don't remember how the rooms were numbered but we had an incredibly beautiful view from an upper room. I think all the rooms are beautiful though. Just an overall beautiful location. I called the Lodge directly with questions.. There was a bit of a language barrier, but we worked through it : )
The lodge is only accessible via boat. We were picked up at the airport and driven to Lake Atitlan and then went via boat to the lodge.
