Our first time here was 19 years ago. We have come back 7-8 times and sent friends here for an awesome stay. Over the years the service, food and accommodations continue to be excellent. The original owner steadily built and improved the grounds and now his son Sebastian is doing the same. The improvements were not to correct anything but to make awesome even better, renovating as time passes and continually working on the landscaped grounds, which are beautiful. They now have 100% solar hot water with gas back up if there are too many cloudy days in a row but not really a problem here. 30% of their electric is now solar as well. The staff is super accommodating and friendly and the room was so cute and comfy. Sebastian stops to ask how everyone is doing and if there are any suggestions. We missed the family style dinners that were a custom here, but understandably they had to put those on a pause because of COVID and have people sit at spaced tables and order from the menu.

My wife and I spent the first 4 nights of our honeymoon here in Room 13. We arrived after dark and staff was waiting at the dock to help us take our bags up the steps to the reception area. That where we met Victor, the man who assisted us with all things Lake Atítlan. Victor and the rest of the staff made us feel like VIP's from the moment we got there until the moment we left. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous! All the pictures & YouTube videos don't do it justice. It is built on a cliff and sprawling, so be ready to do some walking. Trust me, it's worth it! The other big thing is the restaurant. They had the best food overall that we encountered around Lake Atítlan. My wife got several massages while we were there & really enjoyed them! We swam, read books in the hammocks, talked with other guests, & explored some of the surrounding towns. I can't wait to go back!

This hotel came well-recommended. After much research, I decided to give it a try. I wanted Room #22, but when I came to book it was no longer available, so I carefully chose Room #15. I even vlogged about my decision....imagine my surprise when I arrived and was given Room #3. I had really weighed my choice and chose it specifically for the private balcony. At checkin, I mentioned this to the host and was told "they are the same". In fact, Room #3 did NOT have a balcony. Not a good start but I did not want to make a big fuss, figured I would address it later since I wanted to get to my room. I did, plugged in all my electronics so they'd be fully charged in the morning for my next day's adventures. Unfortunately, I awoke to the electricity being out so I had to wait a few hours for breakfast as well as for the electricity to be restored so that I could charge my devices. This took a lot of my morning so I didn't set out for my day until the afternoon. Now I am at a point of seriously considering choosing another hotel. But I needed to use wi-fi to choose one and there was no electricity. I found out from other travelers in groups I belong to online that power outages are common and I fully understand that, but it would have been nice to be made aware of that from the hotel, so I could have been better prepared. At night there were loud guests in adjoining rooms with babies crying and profanities. The hotel is more like we are sharing a house, so I could hear everything and it disturbed my sleep. I had to leave the hotel at 4am to get to my flight. I was not made aware of the fact that the office area is locked and was fumbling through the steep stairs with my phone flashlight, not knowing whether I'd be able to actually access the dock where my private boat was waiting for me. I had to just leave the keys on a ledge near the dock. The hotel needs to do a MUCH better job of communicating particulars about the hotel to travelers. I do not recommend this place, though it may be good for a work retreat. The breakfast was delicious and the views and grounds are gorgeous; however the customer service makes it not worth it. I was quite disappointed with their hospitality and it dampened what should have been a lovely trip.

I highly recommend looking at the previous reviews about the hotel's owner, manager, and terrible customer service. I don't know who left these reviews, but I agree with them. The views are beautiful from this hotel, but there are other hotels located at Lake Atitlan with incredible views and better service. The service here is terrible, and since the hostel is so isolated, it becomes frustrating to constantly deal with this service. We booked the hot tub for the afternoon (3 pm) but tried to cancel in the morning. We tried to cancel because I had an accident in the lake and ended up with an open wound. My open wound was obvious, and I showed this to the manager. An open wound can become infected in the hot tub, but the manager did not care. He decided to charge us for the hot tub use even though we tried to cancel hours before our reservation. I also had my period, and I was embarrassed to explain this to the manager, but they did not care. The manager was very rude and argumentative (you can read other reviews on here about this). The manager expected me to use the hot tub even with my period and an open wound. I highly recommend not using the hot tub because this is disgusting that they expect guests to use the hot tub under these conditions. Moreover, the food is not good at the restaurant, and it is expensive. Don't take my word for it, you can read some other reviews about the overpriced and bland food. Also, the service at the restaurant is very slow. There are many stairs going up to certain rooms at this hotel. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of information about this. We are in good shape but I cannot imagine how difficult it will be for others to climb up these stairs. The hotel staff offered help to have us bring our bags down at check out time but no one showed up. This wasn't the first time that they didn't show up as we called them several times to bring necessities such as toilet paper and it would take them hours and several phone calls from us to have them show up. Lastly, the wi-fi does not work well here at all. If you are a digital nomad and trying to work then do not book this place. You won't be able to get work done because the mobile service doesn't even work well here. I also forgot to mention that there are boat scams from the dock of the hotel. Private boat owners will show up to claim their spot and try to scam foreigners by telling them that the water taxis will not show up. Meanwhile, they want to charge foreigners $30 to take a private boat back to Panajachel. I know that this is a scam because I live in Guatemala and I've spent weeks at the lake. This is not normal. I highly recommend booking a hotel elsewhere.

Very unwelcoming receptionist, was not willing to help at all and became rude and neglecting towards me and my girlfriend. Yes it’s a great location but hard to get and we would definitely not recommend anybody who is slightly interested in decent service to go there.

My family and I have been coming to this place over a few weeks consuming over Q200 per person on meals and this one day the owner found me waiting for my order with no meal around yet, he came super aggressive talking about how hard he worked for the place and how it is meant for people to make him a profit or leave immediately. The place is beautiful but if you have the bad luck of meeting this person who owns the place and is only looking to get as much money as he can from anybody, be ready to have a really bad experience. (I’m not cheap traveling but giving my money to people like this is such a bad experience)

This was a superbly beautiful hotel and an ideal location to explore Lake Atitlan. We absolutely loved waking up every morning and sitting on our patio taking in the view, venturing out to explore other villages via the public boats, and hiking. The food was fine - not incredible, but good enough, but we ate several meals at the restaurant anyway, enjoying the many patios with the unending views and the warm breeze. For us, this was great since we weren't there for the food anyway. The service was friendly and warm and responsive. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and i came to the Lake and chose La Casa Dem Mundo because a friend had recommended it. If you are planning a trip to Lake Atitlan, La Casa Del Mundo is a must stay. The staff, the atmosphere, the food, everything is absolutely amazing. This place truly is magical and they have thought of every detail. 10/10

Nice hotel with good ambience and stunning lake views. Clean and great friendly staff. Set into the hillside so stairs are a challenge, sharp edges different size risers with steep drops and not all with handrails so beware. Could do with a bar lakeside to grab a coffee and a beer it was such a hike to the cafe we didn't even try. Does not accept credit cards (does apparently take PayPal) so take plenty of cash as you are a bit of a hostage for meals especially at night. Having said that it was a good few nights, swimming in the lake a great experience and we were made very welcome. Would visit again but it's a venue for the fit and able only.
