This high class establishment, which is definitely off the beaten track, blew us away. After driving some pretty rustic roads and climbing Mt. Everest in my rental car we arrived at Rio Magnolia. When you turn the corner into the Lodge you can't help but be surprised at the luxurious accommodations before you. The lodge is small and exclusive. The...

Maureen and John are welcoming hosts, the food is fabulous, the staff is excellent, and the scenery is unreal. The optional birding tour is totally worth it, and hiking around the property feels safe and at the same time like you are on an adventure. Love this place, an absolute paradise!!!

This is a beautiful lodge, with equally beautiful surroundings. It's a birder's paradise with many options, including sitting on the porch with cocktails, watching bat falcons, toucans, roadside hawks. The food was great, especially the fresh fruit and smoothies, and afternoon cookies. And the hosts are friendly and very accommodating. A place in the cloud forest, away from crowds, relaxing...

My family spent eight days at Rio Magnolia and loved every minute of it. The view from the lodge is truly breathtaking, especially as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean in the distance. As nature lovers, we marveled at the multitude of birds, butterflies, reptiles and other amazing wildlife that we saw on the property, a lot of it...

We really enjoyed our stay with our hosts Maureen and John at Rio Magnolia Lodge. They couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating, and the same goes for their staff as well. When we travel we put service ahead of just about everything else - who doesn't want to feel taken care of? We felt so at home and...

My husband and I spent eight wonderful days at Rio Magnolia in March, 2015. We had chosen to stay in the El Cielo room, as I found the idea of a room cantilevered over the valley quite intriguing, and was not disappointed. El Cielo is very private, as it’s set slightly apart from the main lodge, but still connected by...

We were really inpressed by Rio Magnolia. It was our “coup de coeur” in Costa Rica this year. The place is wonderful and the friendly reception is invaluable The conversations with Maureen and John were a bonus. And it's one of the best places for bird photography.

My husband and I stayed at Rio Magnolia for 4 nights in February 2015 and it was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. Maureen and John are amazing hosts and clearly love what they do! There aren't enough words to describe this place. John and Maureen are awesome and so hospitable. John gave us a tour of the property. John and Maureen had drinks with us during the visit and were so cool and conversational. The food and drinks were great. Fresh fruit daily and a new menu daily. Polomo was a fury tour guide...
