We just returned from 8 nights at Bali Palms and it was a wonderful and relaxing week away from the crowds. The hotel staff were all very friendly and always helpful with a smile that made us feel welcome. We spent most of your time around the pool which is a beautiful and well maintained large pool. Lots of good restaurants nearby and shopping walking distance up the road. We mainly ate at the poolside dining area and found the food and the cocktails very good and reasonably priced and the atmosphere relaxed. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I spent last week at the Bali Palms. We cannot speak highly enough about how friendly Komang, Dave and the rest of the staff were. They went way above the call of duty. They are a lovely bunch of people!

Nice resort, needs a little TLC but the friendly, helpful staff made up for it. Fun entertainment at night, great pool and lovely view of the ocean. You can't swim in the ocean as there's no beach but plenty of drivers around to take you to white sand beaches for swimming and excellent snorkelling. Great place to chill, you don't need to leave the resort but plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance if you do and lots of activities/tours/diving etc. on offer.

The hotel is a little dated however we loved the it! We had excellent experiences with all of the staff and they kept the properties spotless. The hotel was many excellent restaurants within walking distance. We were able to dive 4 days in a row going to a different location each time with no more than a 1 1/2 drive from the hotel. We really enjoyed how relaxing the atmosphere was at this hotel. We will be going back again!.

A beautiful Olde Worlde taste of original Bali but with updated rooms. Nice coastal view from the pool area which was well cared for. Staff were always smiley and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. If you want to spend some time doing nothing then Candidasa is this place to come and this is a good location to chill. Nice variety of local restaurants. The only downside was the quality of the food. It was OK but that’s about it.

First time stayed here although had driven through many times. View from here was very good over to Nusa Penida and up to the port of Padang Bai. Beach was a no go but a drive to Virgin beach further north was a must do. The resort a little old but very comfortable the good old Bali style. YoYo begins the bar was great value on band night. Al the staff were friendly and helpful. Short walk to a local night market, not so good if raining. Plenty of nice restaurants within a 1.5 km walk And plenty of other resorts offering beachside dining and free wi fi.

We did an Interval trade for a full week at the Bali Palms and had to settle for a studio. The room is situated over the main units and access is up steep stairs. Place is in need of some repair & upgrades. The AC did work so that was a plus. These are older condo sales units. The listings state beach front (Yes) but there is no sandy beach to be had. This is a very rocky waterfront with old tidal breaks and docks. There is a good size pool that is kept clean. There is no inside restaurant so you use the same open area & space that serves food all day. After a few days the menu gets a little old and limited. Did not like the 12% Tax on everything & this is not done all over Bali. Prices in Bali can be very cheap but it seemed that with the added cost it is comparable to a lot of place in the US. Non-local beer was same price as US. The policy of only having one card key per room is very strange. Been around the world and never had this issue. The Staff was very good and all seemed friendly and helpful. Cleaning crew was always asking if we needed anything. Front desk hoped us through some health & travel issues. There is a little strain with some understanding English but in all they did a good job. The Spa does good massage. Location is always an issue & we did have to hire a driver to go out and see the attractions. A short day can cost $35+, longer to full can go up to $60. Most of the sought after attractions,Temples & Palaces are about 2hrs+ one way. This one on of the very few place in Bali for trading so with limited choice we were here. It was and interesting stay but if I was looking and paying full prices for hotel, this would not have been on my list. I will be doing a private review directed to the hotel.

This is an average dated hotel however a terrible encounter with one of the cafe staff made it extremely unbearable. It was not on one but two occasions. Don’t get me wrong it is not the entire hotel staff but just one particular staff in the cafe called Jensen. On the first day of our visit at the restaurant for lunch we asked if we could pay corkage for our whiskey which we brought along for our trip. He told us that their hotel policy did not allow that which we happily accepted and proceed to order beers all around. But his way of speaking is either very wrong or his command of English is poor. When he was telling us that bringing your own alcohol was not allowed he said Pls humble yourself and follow our policy. We just accepted it and did not keep it to heart but the second incident was what hit the nail on the head. On the second day my 70 year old father decided to have dinner and ordered Mee Goreng. The noodles arrived and my dad tried it. After a few bites he could not stomach the saltiness so we called a staff to complain about the dish. Low and behold it is Jensen again who tell us he will take it in and add sweet sauce to it. And when we refused and told him to just cancel it he said he has no choice but to charge us for it as it was eaten. We questioned him by saying how would we know it was salty if we didn’t try it. He goes on talking back and asking us how many bites did we take of it. How would my 70 year old father remember. He then unilaterally tells us he has to charge us half price eventhough it’s unpalatable. My dad against our better judgement decides to pay to end the issue. The trip would have been a nightmare but the only consolation was that the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. A note of advise to the hotel is please do something about Jensen.

Response from komangastawa, General Manager at Bali Palms Resort
Responded 31 Jan 2020
Dear Valued Guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for your stays at our resort. we noted your reviews posted on this site and would like to clarify as follows: it regard to drinks (either alcoholic drinks or non alcoholic ones) is very clear that no allowed to bring them to our bar and restaurant and we have the sign NO BYO - No Bring Your Own). So Jensen was very polite but assertive apply our house rules. Pleased to inform you that Jensen is our Restaurant Manager and he ever lived in Australia and he has very good English. I am so wonder about your reviews and seemly tends to personal and subjective. In regard to food, if it was no good why after half left just mentioned? even egg as topping gone? it is not fair, if just a few bites (not until a half left) and you then you said the food no good we definitely consider to accept to cancel and no charge. Jensen already offered a good solution just need to pay half price in stead of paying full price. in addition the other guest ordered the same me goreng (fried noodle) cooked and prepared by the same staff, same time and no issue at all. Thank you for your kind attention Sincerely yours, Komang

This was our first time to Candi Dasa and we booked this resort through Interval International. I've seen a few negative reviews and I'd like to put it in perspective. If you want 5 star accommodation and everything at your beck and call, stay at Nusa Dua but if you want a truly relaxing holiday with very friendly and attentive staff, stay here. Our resort driver was waiting for us at Denpasar Airport and was very informative on the trip to the resort, which takes about an hour. I admit that when we arrived and entered the fairly dark reception, we were a bit apprehensive but this quickly disappeared as we walked past the well manicured gardens on our way to our one bedroom room over looking the water. The place was very spacious and clean with a well equipped kitchen and seprate large bedroom. Sure, the furniture and bathroom were a bit dated but we hadn't come here to stay cooped up in our room. There is a very large pool surrounded by sunbeds and unbrellas and an all day bar and restaurant. There is no real beach but there are several within walking distance but we mainly used the pool. There are also two sunken massage tables next to the pool. There are several optional activities and recption can organise tours and diving including a free trial dive. There are plenty of restaurants and shops if you want to self-cater, all within walking distance. We are definitely coming back.

We had a two week stay here. Pool area was great. If staying and have a problem with stairs make sure you ask for a downstairs room. As our flight back to Australia goes at 1030 pm I asked for a late checkout but I was told an extra two hours would cost 35.00 usd. I thought that was bit rough after staying here for two weeks. Also I had been advised that the current occupancy rate is around 50% so it was not that they did have enough rooms . Probably will not come back here as our friend were staying at another hotel in town and were given late checkout with no questions asked. The little things make a lot of difference.
