For its setting alone La Plume takes the honours. A landscape that is very foreign to me but one that I would describe as 'Big Country' featuring a wide panoramic dusty plain with a distant mountainous backdrop. The main dwellinghouse has a very colonial feel to it. The staff were very pleasant, the accommodation and in particular the evening meal...

My husband and I had to make an unexpected trip to Oudtshoorn and were fortunate enough to find accommodation at La Plume. Our suite was beautifully furnished and provided everything we needed. To Surita and the rest of the staff a huge thank you for the excellent service. From our welcome drink to the delicious dinner we had we were...

Great colonial style accommodation situated amongst an ostrich farm. It is a little remote and so needs a vehicle to reach it from Oudtshoorn, but it was a great base to explore the area, including De Rust, the Kareedowberg pass, and Prince Albert. Plenty of ostrich around (plus other wildlife) but the farm’s own morning guided tour of the farm...

The Place is homely and comfortable and has great history .. Big Bay tours will use it again and again . The owners take personal interest and mingle with the guests and the dinners are really great . It gives one a feel of being in an upmarket Guest house but also the feeling of being on a working farm...

Great and unexpected place in a rough and semi desert area. From the food to the (bath-)room, we enjoyed everything there. The attention to detail was particularly noticed. The farm tour provided great insights into the farm life out there. Our kids particularly enjoyed the ostriches as they could get very close to them. Overall a great place and ideal...

Really excellent accommodation (I think we were in the new wing) with a fantastic room and bathroom! The pool and garden areas were really excellent and very well maintained. Dinner is offered but we did not eat there as it was only a short drive into town. Breakfast was ‘OK’ by SA standards. Overall the guest house is really nice,...

Our expectations on arrival were high. Nicely laid out gardens, good views and very spacious accommodation. Plenty of attention has been given to the cosmetics but not so much to the practical living. Our bathroom was probably the biggest we had during our holiday, however the sinks were raised to a height that made it difficult to use even for...

This was one of the best hotels or guesthouse we stayed at during our entire African holiday, and was also the cheapest. Our bedroom was huge and tastefully furnished in traditional wood. It included a large lounge area with multiple seating options, and a huge bathroom with separate bath, shower and twin wash basins. We opted for the evening meal...
