Nice, quite old fashioned hotel. Great location by the waterside. Large, comfortable, well equipped rooms. Pleasant grounds with a swimming pool and comfortable loungers. Very good place to unwind. Just a short drive from Knysna Quays.

Situated on the edge of the lagoon, about 10 mins drive or 30 mins walk from shops and restaurants in the marina. We had a courtyard room which was huge. Lounge, dressing area , large bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Our shower was very unique with a planted area behind glass doors. Felt like you were having a shower in the... More

We spent 3 nights at St James in Knysna. The accommodation is absolutely stunning. Huge sitting room and four poster bed with kitchen. The main house is very colonial and classically reflects a time gone past. It retains the opulence of the era and as a guest you are made to feel very welcome. The family feeling is maintained in... We had a super-spacious junior suite in the courtyard which was delightful but the shower and faucets could have benefitted from de-scaling. The communal areas are furnished as a country house and the pool area is very relaxing with lovely views across the lake. We ate both lunch and dinner and had good food at very reasonable prices. It's quite... More

We had a lovely stay at the hotel for one night on a passing visit through Knysna. The hotel was lovely and clean but it could do with a bit of modernising - not necessarily in the communal areas but the bedroom we stayed in was a little outdated! Having said that, we had a comfortable stay and the front... More

We stopped in St James on our way across the Garden Route in November. Easy to find location and situated on the edge of the water with fantastic views. The building is really impressive as us the attention we received upon arrival from the manager who explained everything n detail. Very comfortable room with new carpet and everything we needed... This hotel has a amazing view! The staff is really friendly they will go out of there way to keep you happy. I stayed in room one nice room. Only downside is I can't smoke in my room apart from that it's excellent! No where to eat late night. They will let us do kayaking free! I will defiantly recommend... More

I don't write many reviews on TripAdvisor, but feel compelled to counter the very unfair reviews of the previous 2 reviewers who it seems were clearly travelling together and obviously had a gripe that they acted on in the heat of the moment. My wife and I left the St James earlier today after a lovely stay. We had a... More

The hotel itself and room, not too many real concerns. Very drafts on a cold November day and no instructions for heating on the aircon- but otherwise a pleasant and spacious room My review is mainly for the appalling restaurant service. We arrived at 6.50 for a 7.30 booking. A food menu arrived (not wine) and we chose although the... More

This is a lovely building and a pleasant setting although we arrived in foul weather with a heavy mist. The staff were welcoming and helpful and our room is comfortable. Then we go to dinner booked for 7.30pm - at this point it turns into Fawlty Towers. The menu came through at about 7.30(!!) no wine list. We made our... More
