First impression of the hostel was dingy and dirty looking. After being given our dorm the bed didn't look too dirty but the room certainly smelt. The door didn't shut nevermind lock. Would not recommend, there are much nicer places to be in beautiful Knysna!

I ended up here as the hostel around the corner was full. Staff is helpfull (Jeff and Dean), but the place is very worn out. Smelly kitchen, outside at the pool needs new painting and the floor are cracking. But hey, I forgot my iPad and it was nicely stored with the frontdesk so I could pick it up a...

I stayed three nights at Highfields because all other backpackers in Knysna were booked full. While this may once have been a passable backpackers, it is now old, creaky, dirty, sketchy, cold, and uncomfortable. Most of the other guests were men in their 30's and 40's. The downstairs bathrooms are lousy, and the kitchen is very bare bones and smells...

Place is disgustingly filthy. Too many beds in one room. Only aim is to take money and provide awful facilities. Dean and Victor make a lovely couple and really look after each other. The rest of the staff are friendly too.

DO NOT USE HOSTEL BOOKERS TO BOOK THIS HOSTEL. We did that and go there to find out the hostel doesn't work with hostel bookers, they had no record of us, and the hostel was full. Luckily they made use a makeshift bed and there were rooms the rest of our stay. The staff is very friendly but the building...

My staying was great especially because of the staff that are willing to help you with everything which is for the most important part when you are staying at a hostel. The kitchen is well equipped, you have everything for a good meal. In general the place is good and I recommend for all of you who are visiting knysna to...

We arrived without booking in advanced and were right away welcomed. The staff is very friendly. We booked a double room and got a big room with 4 beds. The window didn't close properly but it was not such a big deal since it was quite and no A/C. The room is very bright therefore i suggest to bring some...

Good location, but Highfield Bachpackers has a dorm without a soul, only goal is to aquire money. Much too much beds in one room, without place for backpacks or luggage and without a possibility to recharge your cellphone/camera in the surrounding. Kitchen was very dirty. Table was gluey.

Loved this hostel. True its not a luxury hostel but I have stayed in far worse hostels in Darwen and Wellington. Its central and convenient. The manager Dean is amazing. Really friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for him. I have stayed in 4 star hotels and not got the same level of service and attention given...

Location wise one can't fault the place but its a bit run down and the bathrooms were in need of maintenance. The staff are friendly but possibly stoned. Its also a pity that there is only on street parking available.
