This is the second time we have stayed at Derwent House Boutique Hotel. Having stayed at many nice hotels in various parts of the world, my wife and I have become rather picky. Among the (small) hotels that we have stayed in, Derwent House is definitely one of our favorites. What's so special about Derwant House? The best answer I...

If you want a truly stylish yet personal experience staying in a comfortable townhouse hotel close to all major sites and sights, then this is it. Our Fabulous bedroom was ideal and very well designed to maximise the space; everyone from manager to breakfast staff was keen, friendly and expert in what they do. Delicious breakfast and generous teatime treats...

Derwent House Boutique Hotel is a true hidden gem of Cape Town, this hotel is truly amazing! On arrival the general manager Luca welcomed us with a big smile and open arms, the hotel atmosphere is very relaxed with a classy feel, if you love art then this is a must visit hotel. They also have a great recommendations list...

Indeed, Luca's welcoming smile is becoming legendary! But we are so pleased to learn that you appreciated the ambience and art at Derwent House as well: we want to reflect Cape Town's well-deserved global reputation as a design hub while embracing African colour, style and joie de vivre. And as you know, we love to share our latest gastronomic experiences...

Staff were absolutely superb. Breakfast great. Nice pool and communal lounge. Only criticism is the cheaper rooms were too small so we moved to a larger room with a balcony at the front which was great. We stayed 5 nights. Walking distance to bars and restaurants.

Dear John, Thank you so much for your kind remarks on your stay with us -- and especially for your very generous "wine tasting" and recommendations: we are always on the lookout for new viticultural discoveries and your tips are a revelation. We even revisited Delaire Graff on your recommendation and concur on its improvement. Hope we can reciprocate with...

Perfect place for a relaxed and stress free 3 days. Brilliant location close to Table Mountain and a multitude of excellent eating joints but the really outstanding feature here is the quality of staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Like being in your own house. We'll be back. Chris and Fiona

Dear Chris and Fiona, It was a pleasure getting to know you briefly and sharing our rugby enthusiasm . . . you should definitely think about coming for the Rugby 7s here -- an unforgettable rugby experience and you will certainly appreciate the passion of South African supporters! Thank you so much for your really lovely comments on our team...

We booked 11 months before our stay and I had correspondence with the owner from that day. My husband and I are real foodies and this was the main reason for our visit to Cape Town. Turned out that Anahid and Ahmed are too, she gave me soooo much information on where to eat and what to expect from each...

We'll be awaiting you -- with lots more great food recommendations (already have a list of places for you to try next time!). As you discovered, Cape Town is an absolute gastronome's paradise, and there is nothing we enjoy more than to share our experiences with fellow foodies. As mentioned, watch out for our food blog, Tasting Notes, on the...

Arrived in Cape Town and this was our first call upon our great SA journey. And what a lovely welcome it was!! We felt instantly at ease and all the staff are so friendly and accommodating to any requests. Our room was up some stairs so gave us a lovely view of the pool area. We didn't use the pool...

We love to be the welcome stop for first-time visitors to our fabulous city, especially if we help you feel at home and love it as much as we do. We all enjoyed hosting you both for your too-short stay, and are overjoyed that the special touches we work hard at coming up with made an impression. I'll share your...

We flew in on 13th Nov and Cape Town was first port of call (for 3 nts) before moving on to Stellenbosch. Firstly let me say that if you are on a budget this hotel probably isn't for you but having said that, throughout our 17 days in South Africa (which we planned ourselves), we stayed in exquisite accommodation for...

Dear Timothy, Our many heartfelt thanks for your thoughtful and detailed review of your stay with us -- and especially your very helpful suggestion about keeping change on-hand. Not very sure what happens to it, but we need to work harder at keeping a steady float: not only taxis, but also suppliers always conveniently lack change. Certainly, the two of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself. We're waiting for you! ... more   less
