My stay at the Hostel was a very pleasant experience. Since I was a solo traveler, I wanted a way to meet others in Cape Town. The backpack offered me all of that and I managed to meet a lot of friendly people.

The rooms are very clean (I paid more for a personal one), they have plenty of washrooms and always had hot water, there is a full kitchen and a large open community space for you to interact with others. The location is very close to the city center and walking distance to the lions head. There was always security at the front and the gate is locked with a buzzer code.

Only complaint was the fridge never seemed to be cold enough so your stuff was always borderline warm.

We always stay at the Backpack when staying in Cape Town. This place is the best value for your money and the staff are always so friendly! We always make a point to bing donations for their community work. The double rooms with or without ensuites are lovely. They have new windows in some of the rooms on the road/pool side which make them very quiet.

Thank you so much Lori and for all the Pack for a Purpose goodies you brought to South Africa. They have been given to our charities who are forever grateful for these supplies of soccer boots, school backpacks the beautiful knitted goods not to mention the awesome patchwork quilts, wool and stationary. We hope to see you again later in the year. Stay safe! The Backpack Team

Great location, felt very safe around. Distances to Highly recommended spots is short enough, so uber is very cheap. Very clean and every evening when I came back someone did my bed (highly appreciated, thanks for that!) wifi was also very good and the staff very helpful. The pool was good and the view on table mountain when u wake up made my day!

Hostel in a great location with friendly, helpful staff. Easy to walk to Long Street and Kloof Street which have a fab range of bars and restaurants. Plentiful Ubers at good price to get you further afield and many trips can be booked at Reception if required.

Do consider staying at Backpack while in Cape Town. The hostel has good location with many excellent restaurants and bars nearby. The hostel staff was friendly: especially enjoyed about the kindness of the security personnel and the personnel in charge of tidiness of the hostel. The hostel was really tidy and there were enough showers and bathrooms.
The breakfast was good. Not great but as it's included in the prices when you stay in private room, there is nothing to complain :).

Awesome clean and aesthetically pleasing space. Centrally located from all attractions. Felt really safe for a solo traveler. The notice board of places to see and things to do was really insightful. Friendly staff- Luzuko was a great host! Recommended things to do. The braai on Tuesday night was an awesome way to tap into Mzansi culture. Definitely plan on returning with a bigger crowd the next time!

I stay at the Backpack for 2 weeks and I love it!

The location is perfect, you're close to the Long street, supermarkets, table mountain, lions head, Champs bay and kap-boo.

I slept in a four bed room for the last 2 weeks and I had a lot of great room mates.

So book the backpack you would love it!

Stayed at Villa Viva for about two weeks total during my study abroad program. Super clean and spacious rooms and the staff is absolutely amazing! They also have events at the hostel throughout the week to meet and mingle with the staff and other people staying there. Couldn’t recommend Villa Viva enough!! Definitely stay here if you get the chance.

This hostel is in a great location, it was clean, safe and had a nice view. It wasn’t overly warm and inviting. Check in process could have been a bit better (although we were coming in at a late time). It would be nice if water for guests was a bit easier to access or coffee in the morning etc. We enjoyed talking to other guests at the bar.
