The Table Bay hotel enchants many guests with its classic luxury and grandeur, complemented by a stellar waterfront location near shopping and dining highlights. While the spacious rooms offer comfort, there is feedback suggesting they could benefit from modernization. Opinions on value vary, as some guests feel the cost is justified by the location, whereas others expected more from a 5-star establishment. Cleanliness is generally applauded, and the amenities, including the mall access and breakfast, are well-received, despite some noting service can be hit or miss.

Travelled as a couple in Feb 2020. What a fantastic beautiful hotel. Excellent breakfast and great cocktails.
We had a beautiful room with picture window with full view of Table Mountain which was amazing as the view changed all the time with the cloud cover, sun rise and sun set. I would sit in the large lounge chair in the morning with a lovely coffee made in the room and watch the sun rise, what a memory. All you could wish for buffet breakfast, eggs to order served to you individually at your table. A lovely choice of different juices and they do not mind you taking out a bottle of still/sparkling water with you. After breakfast had a specialist coffee on the terrace watching dolphins and seal lions in the bay. All staff very helpful, please leave tips. Excellent safe location. Just a stroll along the water front to all the great bars and restaurants at extremely reasonable prices. V&A shopping directly next door. 10 mins stroll to catch the sightseeing bus which dropped and picked us up (red route) from cable cars at Table Mountain. This is amazing. the mountain was sunny/clear at the cable car point, a chance to get good pics of the view and as we walked up the well made paths to the viewing points the cloud cover started and this was magical and a chance for some amazing pics.
We visited the Stellenbosh vineyards which is a trip I recommend plus a stop in Stellenbosh which is absolutely beautiful. After a lovely week in Cape Town we decided we need to visit again as there is so much to do and see. Great food and drink at amazing prices.
We then traveled to Zimbabwe to see the Victory Falls that are unbelievably amazing and a wonderful place to see wildlife roaming freely. A sun set cruise on the Zambezi recommended usually many alcoholic drinks included in the price but the hippos and crocs and many other animals on the river banks plus an amazing sun set made this trip really special.

Myself and my husband begun our honeymoon here for 4 nights. We arrived on 12th January many hours before our check in as our flight from the UK was an overnight flight, as soon as we arrived the porters helped with our bags took us to reception so we could shower in the spa and leave our bags, after plenty of faffing around on our behalf with our bags, the porters were so understanding and didnt lose patience with us.

We went out to visit table mountain arrived 4pm after a very long trek down and the reception checked us in swiftly and our bags were brought up straight away. The room was delightful the mountain view as paid and requested by ourselves. Very clean and fresh. With a lovely welcome from the hotel for our honeymoon with champagne, dessert and a special message made us feel very welcome.

The rooms are turned around in the evening (as well as the morning)beds, lights and water are all ready for you when you arrive with fresh towels, never been to a hotel that has done this before and I must say it was very nice.

All the staff are so welcoming, happy and generally interested in asking you questions about your day and your trips, they all work so hard, so try and tip when you can as they are always grateful.

Make sure the restaurant is visited the food is lovely!! Breakfast in the morning is great with lots and lots of choices for all!

Great location for lots of restaurants and great access to all the local trips.

I was generally sad leaving the hotel and moving on to the garden route. I would just like to say thank you to all the staff that work so hard to give the name that table bay has and to make you feel so welcome from the minute you step in the door.

If we ever visit Cape Town again, then we will be staying, I have already recommended yourselves to some of my friends in the UK that are wanting to visit cape town.

Thank you all again and keep up the good work :)

Although a little dated the rooms were large and comfortable with a great bed. We had room 302 which was a 150m walk to the lifts as it was a corner room at the end. It had floor to ceiling windows on two sides of the room with magnificent views of both Table Bay mountain and the port. Service was great. Parts of our laundry were mislaid but the laundry bill was taken off in full and the missing pieces couriered to our next hotel in Franschhoek.

Breakfast was a a banquet the biggest choice I have seen, some such as oysters I’m not sure I want to see for breakfast. You can order specially prepared egg dishes and I would recommend their eggs benedict. I could quibble about the croissants not being the freshest but not everything can be perfect

Great car park for the car too

Great location on waterfont with direct access to mall.
Good public areas with loads of suited white gloved personnel to open ropes to allow you onto lifts etc.
Also lots of suited managerial types walking around.
Room perfectly adequate but this is all the good news.
We arrived after an overnight flight from UK at 9.00am and obviously rooms not ready.
No problem and was expected.
We went to sit by pool area.
1: Gentleman arrives and drops 2 towels on seats and goes off.
No problem we thought either UK or German going for breakfast.
This within 10 foot of bar area with 2 staff.
Midday room ready and we go up to find room with mini bar with price list.
2: Prices looked reasonable for once so decided to have a Coke.
Opened fridge
No ingredients at all except a refillable bottle of water.
Either fill the fridge or get rid of the menu card.
Poor checking of readiness.

3: Return to pool to find towels still on beds and not used until 3.30 pm.
4: No walk around by pool staff to ask if anybody wanted a drink.
5: Empty drink trays lay on tables for hours.
It appeared that this was the job of female staff as bar staff never moved from bar.
6: Breakfast offered included sparkling wine but at both breakfasts wine bottles were inverted in buckets so obviously empty and remained so for 20 minutes until I asked for some.
Poor supervision.
Tea, coffee service was fine as was the made to order omelette although the hot buffet items did not look edible hence the omelette.
Tried a Rosti but was unable to cut with knife and fork so left it.
Later on second day asked to see duty manager to make comments i.e. not to be a miserable Brit and complain but hopefully to improve service standards.
Female manager came and listened to above and obviously apologised for problems.
If that was me the second thing I would do would be ring bar area and get them to clear empty drinks trays.
The third thing would be to go and check half an hour later.
I hour later a female i.e. not bar staff came and removed trays.
To the female managers credit we received a bottle of wine with an apology letter in the room but that was not needed or solicited.
As an ex manager in consumer focussed industry it is the little things that need to be spot on.

Great location let down by poor service standards
Will not use on my return to Cape Town and this fabulous country.

This hotel is attached to the Waterfront shopping centre and Waterfront bars/restaurants etc so the location is fantastic.
The area is safe with plenty of security and we did daily walks (easy 1hr walk along the coast to Seapoint is most enjoyable).
The public areas are fantastic and well maintained.
The breakfast is as good as the very best anywhere in the world and you should not miss. Service is excellent too
The bedrooms are very comfortable with good bathrooms/amenities etc
Two things to improve - the pillows are way too hard and hurt ones necks (suggest ask for softer ones), also the airconditioning is weird. If you set to anything above 20 degrees C then the unit automatically starts "heating" the room after a certain time. You need to turn the button down to about 12 - 15 degrees to maintain a cool room. We were 4 couples and all had the same issue so its a design fault.
Only other minor niggle is that while the pool area is ok and there are enough lounge chairs and shades, the pool itself is hardly 5 star size and is a bit of a letdown for a hotel of that stature and price range. Also the wind at the pool area can be considerable and unpleasant - perhaps they should consider adding a clear glass wall above the existing wall along the length of the pool area to protect the place better.
There is a small gym next to the pool. Big win is free fruit scented water at the pool.
The hotel bar is good and has character and a nice place to hit after a night out.
Overall a good choice.

Over the last 20 years this has been my destination of choice in Cape Town and it still commands a great location and has vast numbers of excellent staff. Our experience this year was a number of areas were tired and management were ineffective and invisible as it started with a poor check in where our requirements had been ignored and took some time to resolve. Our room,502, one of the hotels best where a number of faults existed including a shower door which never closed properly flooding the bathroom every day and electrical charging points which were so poorly fitting I didn’t have the confidence to use them. Our final bill was wrong as another guests drinks had been charged to our room and despite we were spending several thousand pounds on our stay nothing was done to resolve the issue so after 8 visits to Cape Town it’s time to find a new 5 star hotel.

I stayed several times at the Table Bay Hotel. Unfortunately, the quality of service went down significantly. I asked room service three!!! times to bring me water to my room- nothing happened. Only after a complaint to the manager, they made it after 7 hours to bring the water. Further, I asked for a wake up call on two days, but also nothing happened- no wake up call on these two days...
The ,highlight’ then was the early breakfast area in the morning. No clean glasses left, and all the tables were dirty. Even on one table, there was left whole breakfast boxes from other people. The photo is added below. The waitress who was responsible for the area was just watching the situation, there seemed to be no need for her to clean anything up.
The Table Bay Hotel is rated as a five star hotel, and asks high room rates, but what I experienced was not even 3 stars with a service which could be topped by every backpacker hotel.
The only highlight are the guys at the front door, who are always helpful and greeting you with a smile. If all the staff would work like them, it could be a great place. Personally, this was my last stay at this hotel.

The hotel is absolutely lovely walking in. Majestic and very neat and clean. We went for the high tea today and unfortunately on my second course there was a piece of chipped glass on my plate. It had cream on it so I wasn't sure if the glass with the cream chipped and I added it to my scone but the manager said after inspection in the kitchen it was the dome used to cover the food that chipped. Needless to say I was completely overwhelmed and couldn't finish the meal so we decided to leave. The manager was very gracious and offered us a treat on the house when we were ready to come back. I hope I didn't end up eating any pieces of glass. Would highly recommend that they consider changing to an alternative or strictly check plates before leaving the kitchen. Unfortunately this episode could lead to someone losing their life, especially if it was served to a child. Mistakes happen. I hope changes are made.

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel, using it as our base for exploring Cape Town and surrounding areas. Hotel was lovely, it is in a great location on the V&A waterfront which has an abundance of restaurants and bars. After long days of touring it was great to be able to walk out the hotel door and find somewhere to eat. The attached mall is very handy as well, we visited the drug store a few times to purchase some forgotten items. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks in the beautiful sitting area of the lobby as well as some nightcaps in the bar. Great service in both these areas. Rooms were nice, we had deluxe king rooms overlooking the front of the hotel and the sea, no view of Table Bay Mountain but it was still a pleasant enough setting. The room and bathroom were large, clean, with all amenities. Mattress and linens were comfortable. Furniture was a bit dated in style, this is definitely an older traditional hotel but really very comfortable. The only slightly negative thing was breakfast always seemed very busy, not enough room for all the guests. Of the four mornings we only managed to eat in the official breakfast room twice, the first morning we were told to eat in the lobby bar area by a rather distant breakfast hostess and then were left to fend for ourselves with finding a table and attracting staff to help us get coffee, etc. The next morning we were told to eat across the lobby at the evening restaurant where they had set up a second breakfast area. Once again, a little unorganized at first but we managed and the staff this time were great.

I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. It is a welcoming hotel especially for first timers to Cape Town.

Hotel and immediate tourist area largely unaffected. Hot water was on everywhere we saw, bar our bathroom shower. Outside of tourist precinct is 100% part of the load share and dependent on size of service etc on how it is managed. Think small and local = stuck with the experience.

Highs in the low 70s, overnight mid 50s. This hotel is not protected from wind - it is right on the ocean. Windows seal very well, but if it's a windy day and you want to sit by the pool, you'll be miserable. This has a fabulous position on the wharf - I'd say it's worth the trade off.
