This is a lovely hotel, staff are friendly, engaging with nothing too much trouble. Room was immaculate overlooking Table Mountain. Food in each of the restaurants is superb. We made use of the hotel shuttle which runs on the hour. When we arrived early at the hotel we were given complimentary tea and coffee whilst the room was made ready.

Thank you very much to each and every staff member whom made our stay unforgettable! Mark, Lisa, Honest, Frank, Elton...just to name a few. Staff is well spoken, professional and friendly.

Traveling during COVID is scary, but Taj Cape Town is well prepared. Rooms are clean, sanitized & sealed upon arrival for our protection and the hotel have automatic hand sanitizer stations installed throughout the building.

Compliments to the Chef and staff at the Bombay Brasserie. You are definitely the best Restaurant in Cape Town.

We ended our stay at the Jiva Spa - unbelievable value for money and by far the best massage I’ve ever had.

We enjoyed every second. Definitely the highlight for 2020. Thanks for treating us like royals. We’ll be back very soon!

Stayed here during our trip to Cape Town. The location is very good - a 10 minute car ride to the waterfront, and the concierge helps one to get a cab . It’s a stone’s throw from the green market square which is an open air market selling local handicrafts. Had a room with a fabulous view of the Table mountain. The room was very well appointed and very clean. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The bar is great. The food was awesome. I would like to make a small point though - when checking into the room, guests should be advised regarding the switch which is supposed to be turned on for housekeeping to make up one’s room; otherwise they don’t clean up your room!
I would definitely go back to this hotel.

I have stayed at the Taj on a number of occassions over a few years. It is has very comfortable rooms but the daily servicing varies in standard between excellenat and very poor. Repeated requests to have our room serviced before 3pm or to have towels (because towles were removed and not replaced) means that despite the potential this hotel fails to deliver.

The Taj is a lovely property. Our room had a gorgeous view of Parliament and table mountain in the background. The problem. I specifically requested a non smoking room and was assured that I was on a non smoking floor. After an evening out I returned to a hallway filled with the scent of smoke. I called the front desk and night manager but there were no rooms to be moved to that night. The next morning I was assured that the problem had been taken care of. Same story. I asked why the person smoking wasn’t being asked to move? Lots of apologies, NO ACTION.. no recompense either. In addition, no turn down 2 of 3 nights I stayed there. Towels not replenished. Again, an apology, but no change in action. Sadly this property has given a black eye to the Taj name. I am deeply disappointed, have a cough and sore throat from the smoke and no avenue for resolving the problem. Gleefully checking out!

This is the third time we’ve stayed at the Taj Cape Town. The first two times, the hotel had some minor issues (mainly the staff, although extremely friendly, could not remember requests from one minute to the next). Annoying, but not the end of the world. The friendliness of the staff made up for that shortcoming.

This time, however, it is quite obvious that the hotel is running out of money. We have access to the lounge. In the past, they would put out a decent spread. It’s now down to a half dozen items — tonight it’s dried apricots with some sort of cheese mousse and some spiral sandwiches, and a few things like peanuts, olives, tortilla chips, pesto sauce, and a couple of cheeses. Drinks are restricted to two per person. Coke seems to be in short supply at the moment.

Toiletries are a bit of a jumble. The night we arrived, we had some Occitane toiletries and some Taj. The next day it was just Occitane. Then again to a mix. Hand towels and facecloths are taken away by housekeeping and only replaced after a couple of calls to housekeeping.

All the signs point to a lack of money to run the hotel properly.

I do want to reiterate, though, that through all this, the staff is still very friendly and doing what they can with, I assume, very limited supplies. I feel sorry for the staff because they are the face of the hotel and have to deal with unhappy guests and, when the owners really run out of money, they will probably end up without jobs and without their final pay cheques.

This is quite likely the last time we will stay at this hotel.

Taj was one of the most disappointing experiences that I have had with a hotel. We made a booking months in advance for a connecting room given we have 3 small rooms which meant we had to pay extra for Luxury room vs a standard room. Despite calling the hotel ahead of time to confirm connecting room, they said they did not have connection room until the second night which meant we had to change rooms the second night. We checked out after the 4th day but planned to check back in after 2 day safari trip where we remind the hotel staff that we wanted to have a connecting room which they said would not be a problem. When we checked in second time, the same thing happened in that they gave away our connecting room. In addition to terrible service regarding reservations, the maintenance of the rooms were are also terrible with something wrong with each room that we stayed in as had booked 4 rooms in total (ie. shower door handle on backwards, no ability to change between shower head and rain shower). The room key also did not work in elevator nearly 50% of the time. The hotel also could not give us our room keys the night we checked for the second leg of our stay given their system was down. There is something seriously wrong with this hotel's management and reservation system as this is suppose to be a luxury hotel.

1. Upon arrival we were informed that parking was now payable @R120 pn. If this was communicated to us prior arrival, I would have rather booked an Uber as we stay around 15 km from the Hotel. Fortunately this fee was waived after we complained. I have stayed a few time before at the Hotel and parking was never paid parking

2. We were celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary, so it was a special event.
The pool area although 2 people max at any times, was dirty, with used a and dirty towels laying around all over the place. There were even used tissue on the tables around the pool. No clean towels were available and although we requested clean towels, it never came.

3. Upon our arrival in the dining hall, we ordered a bottle of wine, still water and place our food order straight away. Our bottle of wine and water took over 30 mins to come. Our food came an hour after the wine was served. The wine bottle contained sediments as the 11 year old wine was never decanter. So the sediment was naturally in our glass. On a positive note the food was excellent.

4.the toilet in the lobby, which is being used by patrons from restaurant including myself, was despicable, worst than a public toilet. tissues all over the place, urine on the floor under the urinals, dirty unflushed toilets.
As far as I know in a 5 star establishment there should be a toilet attendant at all times especially at the busy time.

5. The cigar lounge, no proper air circulation, as a result it is smoky, unpleasant to enjoy a cigar. The tables and ashtrays were dirty .

6. The telephone in the rooms does not work, as a result I had to use my own phone to contact reception whenever needed.

7. No night room service, as far as I remember, it is a requirement for a 5 start establishment to have an evening room service.

I feel I wasted my one free night from Hotel.com as a loyal customer from them

Last part of our trip in south Africa and we where super excited to stay in the Taj being as it's a 5 star hotel and already having great service in other establishments in south Africa. Started off really well, door staff where lovey and we went to reception and there was a very friendly women on the desk. who explained all about their services unfortunately that was the last time we had dealings with her. Then went to the room and it had the most beautiful views looking out at table mountain. but that is where the positives end. Room was nice but the bathroom looked like it needed updating, plug in the sink didn't work and horrible cloth lamp shades with damp on them. Would have expected some nice little touches as well such as chocolate or welcome drink (which we where promised but this didn't happen). Went to reception to then organise a walking tour told the guide was sick and we weren't given any other options, also the receptionist could really do with customer service training I dont need a young guy behind reception put one leg on the chair and looking at his crouch! Breakfast was okay, I asked for a cappuccino 10 mins later a tea comes out. Had to ask someone else to take the tea away as I had ordered a cappuccino...still no cappuccino, finally after speaking to another server I got it. I don't mind mistakes although it certainly wasn't busy and they made me feel like it was my fault instead of apologising.
worst was the dinner in Bombay brassier the hotel did fix it when we left but as they recommended it I would have expected better.
There obviously having some staff and operational issues, such a shame given the location but I wouldn't recommend we stayed much nicer for less and Cmon guys stop copying and pasting the same responses on trip adviser and sort out your issues

We had requested a mountain facing room on a high floor and that is what they reserved for us. The views of Table Mountain were breathtaking.
The staff at every interaction were friendly and professional..( will mention the few names I remember..Brent in Reception, Felicia in Breakfast, Muneeb Shakil who drove the shuttle bus).
There is a shuttle that takes you to Water Front and Table Mountain cable car.. Hourly service
Breakfast spread was incredible and catered well for vegetarians..we requested mild Indian breakfast and the Indian food chef can to see us and arranged for freshly cooked food.
We would recommend this hotel.

Hi Kulenz. If you turn right out of the hotel and walk up to the main road, it takes about 5 minutes. As long as you’re not on your own, I’d honestly say you’re fine. You can always cross the road if you feel uncomfortable. This will totally depend on where your restaurant is though. Generally I found that it’s just better to get an Uber, if your restaurant is more than a 15 minute walk away. Have an amazing time! I really did love Cape Town.
