Beautiful resort with hippos to view in a private dam. Rooms are of a high standard, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. It’s a short drive to Numbi Gate for access to the Kruger Park. There is a 9 hole golf course, bowls lawn and tennis courts.

I returned to Sabie river sun after 30 years since buying my timeshare this was the first resort I stayed a week way back. Southern Sun establishments and especially the golfing estates are pristine and well managed even though they are the grande dames of the hospitality industry. Old furnishings are cherished and revamped with the new additions of comfort as the years have passed. Keeping the theme and keeping up with the times is something others can learn from the southern Sun brand. The chalet I stayed in 30 years ago was still as comfortable as it was back then. This establishment knows travellers and their needs. Of the hundreds of reviews i have given I maintain 2 or 3 things a traveller really needs, a good clean comfortable bed, running water and a clean shower and toilet and a neat surroundings...all boxes ticked here for sure as always. The grounds and golfing....par excellence. My brother played a few rounds of golf and this estate is so beautiful....and we'll manicured lawns and fairways. Housekeeping, amenities and super super plus...lights were on 24/7 thank you Sabi river sun for keeping us warm and lit up to enjoy our long long card nights

We are regular visitors to this beautiful resort. As timeshare owners we stay in the timeshare chalets on Hippo Lane. We purchased timeshare here a number of years ago after visiting from the UK. (You don’t have to own timeshare to stay here). Imagine waking up to the sound and view of hippos from your veranda! It’s peaceful, surrounded by nature and the staff are extremely polite and friendly. There are small pools dotted around the resort to accommodate the chalets and a large pool in the main hotel area, which again has beautiful views. The food is fantastic, in the main restaurant and the sports bar. The resort is located on a stunning golf course, there are tennis courts and a fabulous entertainment team offering a variety of activities. The resort is a short distance from the Phabeni Kruger Gate, where you can self drive or take one of many safari tours. Hazyview is a lovely town with everything you need, shops, food, activities. Get yourself to Perrys Bridge Trading Post (located just down the road from the resort), where you can buy tickets for tons of experiences as well as shopping and eating! I can’t recommend this enough, we have been lucky enough to bring friends and family with us over the years and everybody falls in love.

Overall stay was okay. Good location for entry into Kruger National Park. Found it to be under-staffed with waiters making drinks, serving and processing orders which means an order takes forever. Arranged beforehand via email and then again in person at the hotel on multiple confirmations for 2 birthday cakes - and they could only produce 1 cake.

The chalet was perfect, neat and tidy, well looked after while we were there the ladies cleaned it well and we always had clean fresh towels. The entertainment was great and staff were incredibly friendly. The Hippos never disappointed and the weather was perfect. We are definitely headed there again soon.

Malcolm Bone (General Manager) and his team have created something really special at Sabie River Sun. A relaxed environment where the whole family is welcome to try their hand at golf and enjoy all that the resort and area has to offer. I stayed in one of their 6 sleeper chalets and decided to extend for another week. Would highly recommend staying here if you are planning to also visit the Kruger National Park or just looking for a truly stress free family holiday where the whole family will have a great time.

Where to start? Arrived around 2.30 on the Friday, check in simple and easy, got to the Chalet ready for the 7 day stay.........Grounds immaculate as usual. No the issue started. We went to the rooms, the Main room had no TV, just the connections (told they us that firstly, the TV was on order, then the Manager told us they cannot source the size of TV for the cupboard anymore), the drawers in the second bedroom were damaged and could not be opened, previous occupants have kicked them and they are permanently stuck. Went to the kitchen, the sink was blocked and had dirty smelly water (don't housekeeping check?) phoned maintenance, they arrived, said they know about the problem, used a plunger, left and said he'd be back. Last we saw of him. Reported again the next morning, the Manager for Maintenance came, released an airlock and said he would fix on Monday, this was Saturday. Did put a new lock on the door as it didn't close. Again, last we saw of him. We constantly had to mess with the pipes under the sink and put a plug in one side, for it to work, reported it everyday. on our last evening we saw the General Manager and showed him photos and explained all our issues, including the leaking shower , which took 4 days to fix, and this was only done properly, when we were there to tell them to seal the entire bottom of the shower. Extremely disappointed in the Chalet we had, as we had friend in another and theirs had no issues. Even more disappointing was the lack of Maintenance or urgency in fixing any of the problems. Pity we didn't see the GM earlier. Now for the Restaurant. Each time we ordered any lunch, we received food that was never what it stated on the menu, no relish, crumbed chicken came uncrumbed etc etc. Never asked if all was OK. The one night we had a meal there, there was very little on the A La Carte they had available, the Buffet was very sparse. On the A La Carte we were told veggies were Butternut, carrot and beans, when it arrived it was Courgettes, Patty Pans and onions, we were told that all they had, so we took the Butternut off the Buffet?? Pudding, they had nothing on the menu, so we decided to get Malva Pudding, which was actually a plain Vanilla pudding.........really!! Breakfast was not too bad, they need warm plates, always a contention of mine. The F&B Manager apologized and gave us his card, so we can let him know next time we are there and he'll make sure Curry is available, as 4 of us wanted it. As regulars, we found that they seem to be understaffed, especially around the Pool, we waited forever for drinks, even going to get ourselves in the end. Julia was run off her feet, but always made an effort if she saw us.........a treasure.
