Nestled on the banks of the Sabie, one of South Africa’s most biologically diverse rivers, lies Lion’s Rock Rapids. A mere 15 minute drive from the world famous Kruger National Park, our abundant birdlife will welcome you in and you may even spot a lazing hippo or curious mongoose. We are located 4,5 hours drive from Johannesburg and the nearest town is Hazyview, Mpumalanga, which is a 10 minute drive away. What to expect: You will be warmly welcomed into either one of our newly refurbished luxury tents along the river bank or into one of our lodge suites - depending on your booking. Each air conditioned, luxury tent comfortably accommodates 2 guests. Please enquire about small children as we are able to accommodate them in some of our tents. Each lodge suite boast a private pool as well as spa bath for your enjoyment. Our friendly staff will serve all your lovingly prepared meals at our restaurant, overlooking the flowing river. You can enjoy the sunset here or by our riverside bar whilst enjoying the crackling campfire and making many happy memories. Our beach area is well loved by all our younger guests and those wanting to dig their toes into the sand and it adjoins our restaurant. Many happy hours of play, bird watching and relaxation can be enjoyed here. For those wanting to cool down, head to one of our sparkling pools for a relaxing swim. If you are seeking adventure, the surrounding area offers many exciting activities including Game Drives, river rafting, quad biking, beautiful Elephant interactions and many more. These can all be arranged for you as an added extra by our staff. There are also many renowned Mountain biking as well as hiking trails to enjoy and if you’ve booked a private massage in your tent, your muscles can be soothed away thereafter. Our team at Lion’s Rock Rapids all look forward to welcoming you.

Detailed Reviews
my family used this as our base whilst visiting the Kruger Park which is a short drive from the lodge. The accommodations were spotless and well ventilated with AC and very pleasant in the warm evenings. A true wilderness experience with all the sounds of natures nightlife to lull you to sleep. The staff, the meals and services were wonderful and we’ll definitely be back soon.

Was a great experience. Very friendly staff. The food was amazing. There's fun activities to do on site, like fishing at no extra cost and you don't even need to bring your own equipment the lodge has rods provided. There's also volleyball, pool table. It's a nice place for families with small kids, it's safe. Prices of food and drinks at additional cost are not badly priced. Loved every moment.

Heath and Lynette are incredible hosts who made us feel so welcome. Their entire staff was highly attentive and took care of our every need. The food was beyond plentiful and not only delicious but always beautifully presented. What a wonderful, relaxing place to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

We spent 3 nights here recently in one of the tents in fact tent 1. The tents are literally about 50m from the Sabie River that apparently flows all year. There are numerous rapids that you hear all day and night couldn't be closer to nature .
The tent was lovely , spacious and fortunately not to warm even though the outside temps were 30 plus degrees most days.
There are a few options in terms of dining , you can choose to eat at the on site dining area next to the river or you could travel a few kilometres down the road to a few restaurants . We chose the breakfast & dinner option. As we went to the Kruger Park every morning and left early we arranged breakfast packs , which were great . Our dinners were also wonderful and the ladies serving us were very friendly & efficient . The food was great on each occasion
The guests from the Lodge can also eat at the on site restaurant. There is also a boma fire area for those who wish to have a romantic dinner on the "beach" . The river sand looks like a little beach. You also able to tube if you feel adventurous.
We had great sunset views enjoyed from our tent & the bar area which is next to the dining area. Aiden was our main man , opened the gate up early each morning , was friendly as a barman should be and welcomed us as well. Heath & Lynette looked after us on our last evening & everyone was really friendly
It takes about 20mins to the Phabeni Gate if you visiting the Kruger & apart from the road to Lions Rock , the rest are in pretty good condition .
A suggestion is perhaps some back up power or lights in the tents during loadshedding . This did not impact the dining area & we still had a wonderful experience

The place was amazing , kitchen staff and cleaners friendly with an amazing customer service. Concerns were raised to Aiden willingness to help 0% the view perfect but I wish they could offer Aiden lesson on how to be a manager if he is one. When we got there he never greeted any of us except the person who made the booking as if we a just plus 2 that didn’t contribute a cent. The place was dusty like a museum with spider webs and he advised there is nothing he can do about it. When we enquired about breakfast which was part of the package he advised that he will come in the morning to collect us he didn’t we had no idea where the breakfast was served we had to call couple of times and never responded we had to go ask around and look for him. The car was so dirty with a bad smell like it wasn’t washed in years. The following day when we enquired about breakfast which he advised it is served at 8 to 10 he advised that we should drive our selves there mind you it is bit far and he said it is not his responsibility to take us to the breakfast. At some point I felt like he is being Racist. Willingness to help -0% customer service -0.000%

We stayed 2 nights in a Lodge with private pool (though quite cold because of season). Breakfasts and dinners were excellent, served in great setting in tent like restaurant next to Sabi river (meaning approx 1 km walk or drive from Lodge). Friendly staff booked quad trip for us and advised on few more things to do and see. will definitely return when traveling to Hazyview.

I absolutely loved it. Its important to point out that both supper and breakfast are included in this price. Everyone involved here are fantastic. Really special place. I only spent two days there and my only regret is that I did not make it a week. The management and staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make me feel at home. Give this place a shot. You are going to love it.

We had a pleasant stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast and dinner that was included in the price was very well prepared and very tasty.
The beds in the chalets needs desperate attention.
Little bit of maintenance here and there also required.

We booked 4 nights at Lions Rock Rapids in Hazyview for our vacation. Prior to our arrival, Lynette (GM of the lodge)notified us that the roofs of the lodge were blown off by a storm. She then arranged accommodation for us at one of the tents next to the river. We arrived at the tents and we loved the setup. It was just a few meters away from the river and in between was some large Marula tree providing beautiful shade during sunny days. The view was just spectacular. We enjoyed our nights and mornings, listening to the sound of a roaring river rushing down the dense green summer forest. They also arranged for us a half day game drive at National Kruger Park which was just a few kilometres away from the lodge. The food was awesome and no loadshedding at the tents😊. And we also enjoyed fishing by the river over the weekend. This was soul rejuvenating. Lynette and her team even went an extra mile to arrange dinner (for one night) for my partner and l under an Amarula tree next to the river. This was a surprise dinner for my partner and this is the night we got engaged. We will forever cherish our glamping vacation.
To Lynette,Heath,Aidan,Prin and all the restaurant staff, thank you for your kindness and for going an extra mile to make our stay so pleasant and memorable. Lions Rapid Rocks "rocks".

We loved our stay at lions rock so much that we extended with one more night. When arriving, view from the terraces and anywhere in the lodge is breathtaking. But most notably, the staff is really caring, going the extra step to make us feel comfortable. Thank you!
