AfriCamps is all about glamping at the most beautiful working farms, estates and reserves in South Africa. At each of our locations, you can get closer to nature without compromising on the creature comforts of home. Enjoy everything from hiking to hammocking, from seclusion in nature to romantic escapes, from family getaways to merry chaos with friends. The AfriCamps glamping concept offers guests the freedom and flexibility of a self-drive holiday, the closeness to nature of a camping trip and the luxury and convenience of a beautiful self-catering unit. AfriCamps at Mackers in Hazyview is magnificently set on the banks of the Sabie River. Ten self-catering boutique glamping tents are surrounded by lush green grass and indigenous forest. The camp is just a few minutes' drive from Hazyview, with easy access to Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route, two of South Africa's best-known attractions. Each AfriCamps tent consists of a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch, a dining area with a solid wooden table and seating for five guests, a fully-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms that comfortably sleeps five guests, and a bathroom complete with a hot shower, flushing toilet, and washbasin. Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen-size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains a single bunk bed. Our tents are equipped with air-conditioning and an indoor fireplace. Enjoy a braai on our spacious wooden decks and take in the views from the comfortable deck loungers. Pull up the front covers and transform the tent into a large outdoor living area. Unwind and appreciate a festive family breakfast while taking in the serene natural beauty of the South African landscape.

The host, Ryan, phoned us in the morning, before we arrived to ask what time we'll be arriving and whether we have need of anything. He sms'd us on the night of arrival to check if everything was in order and then he stopped by before we departed the following day. Very friendly.

It is ideal for one family to stay in one tent and make use of the two bedrooms in one tent, but I wouldn't want to share the tent with someone or another couple I am not really extremely comfortable with since you have to share a bathroom and there is only a canvas screen separating the two bedrooms.
It is very cute and very neat, and a unique outdoor experience, offering comfort whilst at the same time preserving that feeling that you are deep in the bush.

A fireplace inside the tent as well as electric blankets on the beds ensure that you are fine in winter. The small kitchenette contains all the important utensils.

The tents are numbered from 1 to 10 all along the bank of the Sabie river. The river is not deep or frightening as the current is not that strong along that stretch of the river. Tent number 1 is situated along the still water and tents 8, 9 and 10 are closer to some small rapids and are therefore not as quiet as tents 1, 2 and 3.
This means that if you are a birdlover and want to hear birdsong more clearly, you might want to stay closer to tent 1 or 2 or 3.

Take your own drinking water along.

We drove a Toyota Rav4 going there and the road was not a problem.

Certainly hope to return there soon.

The location is awesome, facing the river with the music of water flowing 24/7. Great tented experience for family and kids. Glad they had electric blankets and AC was chilly when we went. Over 1km of bumpy mud road to get to the tents, best minimise going back n forth on it.

Awesome to hear you enjoyed your stay at our camp, right next to the Sabie River. Thank you for your valued feedback. We've had some difficulties with the road in the past, especially after heavy rainfall, and do not recommend visiting in low-profile cars. If you have the option, we recommend an SUV.

I was blown away by their absolute willingness to make my stay as comfortable as possible, they sent me an email to ensure that they will do everything in their power to assist me. I use a wheelchair to get around and without even asking the owners had built a ramp and made sure that I was comfortable in every way.
The place is magical and peaceful, waking up to the sound of nature. They also have refreshing touches like an honesty shop to fill up your stock or the scrumptious herb garden that you can help yourself to.
The kids had a great time exploring the place with the guild of "Pig" the resident dog who would go exploring with them, and when the river gets too cold there is a fabulous infinity pool to go and enjoy with complimentary swimming towels so you don't have to bring your own.
Next time we will stay at the camp more, this time we used it as a base to explore the area.

The pics online looks like a wealthy sheikhs tent in the Arabic desert but not nearly as glamorous in person. It's very clean inside, the bedding is very comfortable and the tent is located on the Sabie river bank. The bathroom unfortunately had lots of bugs inside and huge spiders thus for the faint of heart stay away. The scenery is absolutely beautiful with a pool on the premises. We stayed for a couple of days so activities fall short, although the Kruger was an idea we went for as well the Lone creek waterfall but for the other days we occupied ourselves with card games because there was no TV. It gets a bit too much after a while, therefore i would recommend staying over max 3 days or for guests for quick over night sleepovers.

Thank you for your honest feedback Carel. AfriCamps at Mackers is perfect for a Kruger and Panorama Route holiday for those who want to be close to the outdoors while keeping all the comforts they love. We suggest guests explore the beautiful area, especially game drives in the National Park which is 30 minutes away, explore the tranquil Sabie River, enjoy fishing, and the walk along the river, settle down for a braai on the banks of the river, spot birds, or relax on the deck with a book. It is a paradise for those looking to relax and rejuvenate. Thank you for letting us know about the bugs. Unfortunately, enjoying the outdoors can come with some encounters with these critters. We suggest keeping the windows closed and canvas zipped down and the lights off when guests are not inside the tent. Tents are thoroughly cleaned after each stay or every 4 days, but we will follow up with the camp team to make sure there are no bugs before check-in. Thank you again for your valuable notes.

Thank you for an awesome week! We enjoyed our stay immensely.

Loved Pig the dog "camp mascot" he is a friendly chap. We got to see 2 Cape Clawless otters in the river one evening due to a small commotion between Pig and the otters over some food he had stashed under a tree next to the river. Much excitement for us and to Pig's disappointment. The tent and campsite were in excellent condition at all times. Made use of the "shared" herb garden for Christmas dinner, thank you. The pool was in great condition and well kept, we got to meet many nationalities around the pool with many good laughs.

We enjoyed our stay immensely and have already been recommending it to friends on Facebook.

Always a fun time to meet guests from all over and share stories. We hope to welcome you back and we thank you for your kind recommendation. Have a wonderful 2020!

We had such a lovely, comfortable stay at Africamp Mackers. Everything was as it looked on their website. Spacious tent, comfy beds, clean linen, well fitted out kitchen and great staff who were ready to help at any time. Loved the peace and quiet. Make sure you do the hike (trail marked) but it is not a circuitous route so when you get to the end of the trail you have to retrace your steps back to camp. Fab little Honesty Bar which is open 24 hours and stocks all the essentials you may need (firewood, charcoal, wine, beer, milk, snacks etc. You can also borrow books, magazines, board games, fishing rods etc. Nicely located right on the river and close to Hazyview, Sabie, Graskop etc.

We visited Hazyview on a business trip and stayed at the Africamps at Mackers. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our beautiful location on the Sabie River. The tents are located right on the banks of the river. The tents are equipped with everything you need including air con, electric blankets and the indoor fireplace, which was much needed on the chilly winter nights. We will definately be back to enjoy the camp again. Michelle the owner is very friendly and accommodating to your needs.

Awesome location and easy to unwind. Kids also loved the open environment and Pig (herd dog) following them around. Great relaxing sleep in nature and close to the rippling water (river) - just note (to manage expectations) that there is no real privacy between the two rooms inside the tent, although the bathroom is private.

Thank you for your review and positive comments, we love bringing friends together for quality time in nature - and so glad your kids enjoyed Pig's company :) The 2 rooms are divided by drywall and canvas, perfect for close friends and families of 5 sharing, but separate tents are suggested if guests prefer more privacy.

From the rolling hills to the endless forest & the meandering river this is an incredibly scenic and peaceful location. Each tent is well stocked with everything you'll need for an ideal glamping experience - a rain shower, wood burning fireplace, air conditioner, kitchen & comfortable beds. The campsite is well managed & there are countless day trips to help make your vacation unforgettable. I definitely recommend a private game drive into Kruger with Martin from Elephant Herd Safaris.

We enjoyed three nights at AfriCamps at Mackers. We were greeted by Pig, the dog who kept an eye on us the whole time we were at the camp. The tents were exactly as advertised and were very comfortable even though we experienced hot and wet days. Our hosts were attentive, the honesty shop was very useful and the setting was pretty. Do be prepared for a steep drive down to the camp on a rough road. Our Ecosport struggled a little getting back up the driveway.

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are glad our honesty shop could be of service to you and that you enjoyed the setting of the camp. There has been some rain recently, contributing to the state of the road, but we advise guests not to make the trip in low suspension cars. We hope to see you at more of our camps!
