Punda Maria is one of the smallest restcamps in the Kruger. We had a safari tent, which supposedly is the most luxurious accomodation in the camp. It is pretty basic, though, with everything you in place (including an interview outside kichenette) but little extra. Good for one or two nights to explore this remote area of the Park. We had... Went to Punta Maria in September 2016 by caravan, one of the best experiences of my life,we were lucky to be camped near the water hole and saw sights that I had only previously dreamed of, like a heard of at least 20 elephants drinking and bathing in the hole, then at least 50 buffalo doing the same. Giraffe, Impala,... More

"Everyone" thinks it's fine to skip the north part of Kruger and stay in the south. From my experience, "everyone" is wrong! Northern Kruger is the best part of the park; plenty of aniimals, few visitors, and great atmosphere. While everything isn't perfect at Punda Maria, it's a very nice camp. The on-site waterhole always seems to be the best... More

Loved this quiet camp and a must do for those who love safari tent stays. There were elephant eating in the bush right next to our tent. This area is beautiful with the many types of trees. You can hear the cicadas in the trees. There is a restuarant however the fully equipped kitchen allows for your own cooking which... More

I like Punda a lot. However, the time we stayed in one of the two family units. Space wise its great, it has three ensuite rooms which worked well for our group. The highlight is probable the very modern fridge. The rest should have been replaced 4 years ago. The ceiling fans and aircon units can not do the job... More

Of course this camp is neither very big nor very modern. But staying in one of the tents makes you feel out in the bush and that's why you're visiting Kruger right? I would always prefer Punda Maria over the bigger camps which are crowded and busy. Punda is just right to relax and enjoy the bush.

Punda Maria hasn't changed externally since the 1970's - but inside those thatched longdavels there has been a revolution. Gone are those musty smells of dead rats that I remember. Instead we have spanking new showers and toilets, kettles and aircon. We can park right outside the door but beware of the low-brow entry which might give you a headache.... More

Regular(annual) visitor to the camp and always stay in one of the Safari tents - they are fabulous. This year number 6 which shares with # 5 a boardwalk. Ideal for families, however the lights on the boardwalk stays on all night which might be distracting. All amenities in the tents clean and fresh. Reception, as was the case with... More

I have visited Punda Maria for the first time in many years during August 2016, and only because I could not get a campsite further south in the park for the Long Weekend. It proved to be one of the best things that happened to us during our holiday! The campsite was pretty crowded, but we managed to find a... More

We spent a couple of nights in of the older accommodation. It was quaint, but not very private. There is not enough parking close to the cottages with just one space for 3 units. Cooking facilities are communal and no alcohol allowed. Luckily we had friends who were camping and we spent the evenings visiting them. The camp site is... More
