The unit was ill equipped. Not to the standard as the other camps in the park. Blankets were filthy, toilet was hideous, shower was not functioning properly. Bar service was non existent. The lower lookout viewing area was absolutely filthy. Really a disappointing visit.

A large group of us had a reunion at Mopani Camp and it was truly a memorable experience. I had a bad experience at Lower Sabie recently so was a little apprehensive about this reunion. The chalets were perfect, very clean and the staff very friendly. As we were a large group, Winston, the restaurant manager, prepared us 4 different...

Sunset Drive We had a beautiful sunset drive with Amos from Mopani Rest Camp. He was knowledgeable and professional with a great sense of humor. We also had an opportunity to use the spot lights and managed to spot even more game. Guided Bush Walk This was absolutely the highlight of our trip. We started just before sunrise with Amos...

I agree with previous reviewers (bsy & 975danie). First off - the camp is stunning looking - wonderful architecture and views - and we did not stay there - rather we drove from Letaba for lunch. On arrival a rather befuddled manager tried to get us to sit in an empty area under the restaurant but it looked completely neglected...

The chalets are excellent for larger groups with good size covered stoops and a fixed braai nearby. The rooms (as far as I know) are all air con and well kitted kitchens. There are a couple of good swimming pools to freshen up between game drives. Good shop and a nice bar looking over a large dam. Long views to...

I agree with everything that 975danie said in the previous review. Despite beautiful architecture, the service was appalling, with an ineffectual manager who disappeared for long periods of time, absent waiters, and a painfully slow kitchen. It took at least 45 mins before our orders were taken, and another 45 minutes before our food arrived. The burgers were inedible and...

We were fortunate enough not to have to stay a night at Mopani but we did stop for lunch. The waitress got our orders wrong several times and then wondered off and we never saw her again until we were ready to pay. At which point instead of apologising said it wasn't her field. Our food (5 burgers) took an...

Lovely camp. Loved how quiet it was around the bungalows. We saw plenty of elephant and buffalo. The bird life was varied and enjoyed seeing the open billed storks and marabou storks. The viewing from the restaurant deck was stunning, especially when having a sun downer. New Years at the camp was quiet and peaceful.

our first visit chose unit with view over the dam. The special surprise was a nighttime visit from a genet which sat on the rock by our table for a good while. The unit was clean but basic but lovely view over the dam. restaurant has good view over dam.

Beautiful location, comfortable, , very kind people. During low season you can enjoy better the Mopani experience; the riverside during sunrise and sunshine is a wonderful and comfortable place to watch animals with the typical African light.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
On the banks of the Pioneer Dam in the Kruger National Park, lies it's best kept secret. Named after the mopane veld that surrounds the camp, Mopani Rest Camp nestles amongst the Mopani tree covered koppies. A signature feature is the huge gnarled old baobab tree in the heart of the camp. The vegetation inside the camp is left as found in the wild, adding to the unique atmosphere of the camp. ... more   less
