Makutsi was nothing less than incredible for our family of 4 incl two teenage girls: so welcoming, such an *amazing* variety of animals in close proximity (leopards, lions, elephants, giraffe, rhino, antelope, cheetah, hippo... even a honey-badger!), such knowledgeable and charismatic guides, such a genuine interest in the welfare of the wildlife and the bushland. The family rondavel was very clean and spacious, and the meals were wonderful. Very clearly a family-owned, family-loved and family-run experience. Thank you Makutsi for adopting my family into your family for the special time that we were able to share your world.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome to the Makutsi family. We had a great family rondavel with lots of room for the family and a large verandah to relax in the evenings. The game drives are well organised and the guides friendly, knowledgeable with eagle eyes. Its all planned for you and all you need to do is be at the truck on time. The variety of drives at different times ensures you get lots of variety. The pools are also great for some down time. We were paired with a like family for the week on the game drives and saw lots of animals up close. There is a great bar area for sunset drinks before the drums start to invite us to the communal dinning room. Food was great with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend you give these guys a go when we can all finally start to travel safely again. We booked in Australia via Out of Africa Travel services, Yvonne was fantastic in tailoring our package to suit our needs. I sincerely hope they survive this pandemic and bounce back on the other side.

We spent a great week at Makutsi Springs, seen lots of interesting animals, the accomodation was fantastic and the meals are excellent home made, wifi was available from 7am till 4pm, but it was so relaxing and quiet, no TV no radio. The guides were very informative, and helpful, I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We spent almost a week at the village. The safari rides, the day at Kruger National Park, the trip to Blyde River Canyon all amounted to a great visit to this beautiful country. The safari rides on the property were magnificent. We saw more animals, including the big ones, than expected. Champagne, beer and nibbles while watching the sunset on the evening safari ride was just one of the many highlights. We (two couples) stayed in a family rondavel and it was perfect for us. Clean bedrooms and bathrooms each separated by a large sitting room. We socialised on the large deck out front every day for coffee in the mornings and beverages in the evenings after dinner. Our beer, wine etc was delivered to our rondavel by a staff member with it balanced on her head. No mean feat when one order was a carton of beer and two bottles of wine as well as some coke! Our trip ended all too soon and sadly two days after our departure the entire village was closing because of the Coronavirus. Once this virus is obliterated we urge anyone who is planning a safari trip in the future to please consider staying at Mukutsi Village. You will not regret the decision. We had a great experience there and it will come back in time.

Thank you so much for your informative review, and your very kind words! Most importantly, we are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Makutsi, and when reading your description it should certainly make anybody want to go there right away :) In regards to the Coronavirus, we are glad to hear that you managed to get home safe and sound in time before all the complications with flights and quarantines. We can only hope that this won't last for too long, and that sooner rather than later people will start traveling and visiting again. Certainly your kind and warm words will help to convince some more people, and we thank you for that. Stay safe, and warm regards from all the Makutsi Family!

My friends and I spent a great week at Makutsi in December, staying in comfortable rondavels and going on numerous safaris in the reserve, as well as taking days trip to Kruger National Park and Blyde Canyon. We were made to feel very welcome by the manager Heike, and appreciated the amazing knowledge of the various guides, particularly Rob and Jason. The lodge is set within an open part of the reserve, with animals walking around the grounds (one of the reasons you can’t walk around outside at night), and adding to the appeal. We were privileged to see a very wide variety of wildlife on the well-organised safaris, including the ‘big five’. Seeing lions, cheetahs and a leopard were real highlights. Hearty meals are served in a communal setting which encourages meeting other travellers, as well as drinks in the ‘lapa’ at the end of the day. Certainly appreciated the special arrangements for Xmas Eve, and the gifts to each person staying at the time. Safe, comfortable, rewarding and friendly.

An amazing week of game spotting close up with very informative guides. The real African experience, a private reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. Makutsi is well run with lovely rondavel accommodation and fine dining at every meal. So pleased we chose this place for our stay in South Africa.

We stayed in one of the newer family rondavels that was extremely comfortable and met all of our needs. The game drives and excursion to Kruger and The Drakensbergs were excellent.. The meals were very good with a variety of dishes provided by the delightful staff.

Our second visit to Makutsi was just as memorable or better than the first. Full marks to management and staff. Our accommodation was great and field trips well organised - what do we need to say about the wild life - amazing.

The whole itinerary was excellent and included fantastic meals, a visit to Kruger National Park and Canyons. Plenty of wildlife to see - they just do the safari mix really well. There is also opportunity to do more safaris but there is really no need. Can also relax in the pool, or use the lovely facilities. Unfortunately they have just started charging to use wifi at certain times but as long as you know this you will realise that this is an added expense. I really enjoyed this experience.

Thank you for your positive and informative review! It is great to read that you enjoyed your stay at Makutsi, and also managed to relax a bit and enjoy the lovely facilities. Regarding the Wifi, we have charged for this since we managed to get Wifi to Makutsi, unfortunately the cost of getting an internet connection to such a remote area is significant. We have recently introduced a "free wifi time" which goes during most of the day, only in the evening do we charge for Wifi. Apart from covering some of our costs, it also helps to prevent people who think they cannot survive without Wifi, especially children, from sitting and playing with their phones during dinner time. We strongly believe that Makutsi, and its nature, has to be enjoyed without needing an internet connection everywhere and all day long. We will keep working on finding that perfect balance, and making sure that the possibility to connect is there. Thank you again for your visit, and we send you many warm regards from all the Makutsi Family.

Great food, great staff, very clean. Seen the big 5!!!! Bed was comfy, water pressure in bathroom good, felt safe and welcomed. Loved both pools. The only thing I would’ve loved is a massage therapist on site...

Thank you so much for your positive review, and also your constructive idea. Getting a massage therapist has been on our list for a while now, we just have not managed to get the right person or team to do the job. It certainly is something we are planning for the future, and we hope that one day we can welcome you back to test the quality of our massages :) Thank you again for your feedback, and warm regards from all the Makutsi Team.
