What a wonderful place. Situated in Queenswood, Pretoria, this is a highly recommended gem that we discovered some time ago. The lodge is surrounded by beautiful gardens with a lovely swimming pool. Afternoon coffee was served next to the pool. It was so peaceful – the only sounds to be heard were the chirping of the birds. Breakfast the next...

We were a rather large group who stayed at theWhistletree for two days while working in Pretoria. True attention to detail, very clean rooms, amazing staff, perfect breakfast and the owner Kobus looked after us so well with such amazing stories. It was like a home away from home. We will stay again when we next work in Pretoria.

Whisteltree Lodge in the Queenswood suburb of Pretoria, South Africa is an oasis of tranquility, charming appointments, and exquisite hospitality. Once the former site of a British Army depot during the Boer War, it has a history harkening back to a "scandalous" tryst between a certain Lady Sumnersville and a British Army LT Brown. Both are recalled and memorialized in...

We stayed here as a stopover en route to KZN from Madikwe Game Reserve. It turned out to be a highlight of our trip. The rooms are spacious and filled with fascinating memorabilia of the Boer War. The common rooms are showcases of antique silverware and glassware all beautifully kept in antique glass fronted cupboards. The garden is stunning, lawns...

Pretoria could be a difficult city to visit and, while staying in a big chain hotel may give you the impression of a "cold" a "burocratic" place just one night at the Whistletree Lodge will give you a very different idea. The lodge is beautiful, well mantained in a nice residential area near to everything. All rooms are differently decorated...

There are many Lodges, guest houses that I have stayed in but seldom have I been fortunate enough to stay at such a tremendous facility as the Whistletree . The decor is decidedly olde world but is a joy to behold. The standard of the rooms particularly the cleanliness and thoughtful touches make your stay a delight. The proprieter has a...

This lodge is absolutely fantastic, and is supremely comfortable. I decided to stay at Whistletree on route from Johannesburg to the Kruger National Park, and I was not disappointed. Many of my family members reside in Pretoria, and it was perfectly located for me to visit everyone, and then hit the N4 to Nelspruit, and ultimately Kruger. The rooms are...

“For a couple, ask for #10 "Lieutenant Brown's Room," which is the largest room, with antique-furnished sitting area, desk, patio (facing the khoje and ridge). However, there is not a bad room in the bunch (about 12 as I recall), most of which have private balconies and views of the gardens and trees where it is fun to watch various yellow weavers or crested barbours make their rounds.”
