Stayed 2 nights here with my partner in a private room. Room was large and clean and was R520, quite reasonable! Staff picked us up from the airport and offered us a discounted taxi drop off at the bus station when we left. They also recommended nearby places to eat and organised taxis for us. Quite place with no problem....

I was in Johannesburg with a group of 16 cricket players and was house in Gandhi's backpacker Lodge in Kensington for two nights. It was a pleasant surprise in that it was quite central to the airport, local schools and shopping areas. The staff were super friendly and the rooms spacious and clean. The 'lapa' for breakfast and dinner was...

Comfortable few nights stay. Good value and clean enough overall. Added bonus of towels in the room and free breakfast. Taxi driver Chris attached to the hostel was also very useful and prices were reasonable.

I spent three nights here in late March this year. For the first two nights, I was able to appreciate the spacious accommodation of this hostel, my private room was fine and the kitchen facilities and free breakfast are good. On the third night, however, everything changed. When I arrived back from a day in the city, there were a...

Very nice bagpacker, I would recommend it to everyone (young and elderly people, people traveling alone, with friends, family etc). You can enjoy your time by sitting inside or outside, both are agreeable. People working there are kind. The kitchen is spacious and you will find everything you need to cook. There is a supermarket, only 5 min walk from...

Had a good short stay here and thought it was good! Nice owner, great room, no complaints. A store nearby so you can buy food to prepare in the kitchen, which is really neat and had a lot of spices available.

The main house was built in 1889, and was once occupied by the infamous Indian spiritual leader, Mahatma Gandhi. The interiors were renovated with a well equipped, modern kitchen, beautifully decorated living room and dinning area on the main floor. The grounds are immpeccably kept with bamboo trees all around. The staff and owner are extremely friendly and helpful. The...

The wifi is not available from the rooms at all, and even in the common areas, you don't get good reception unless you are in the bar. The two problems with this are the lack of good lighting, and the fact that the wifi is turned off when the bar is closed, so no access at all late at night...

I arrived at Gandhi's nearly 4 weeks ago now, with the intention to not stay long..... famous last thought. Gandhi's is a great calm place to escape the madness of Johannesburg. Heinz and Chris are super helpful and super good guys and their dog Fluffy loves cuddles and walks. Hopefully she will have a friend in the next few days....
