Had originally booked one of the large dorms here but were surprised when we arrived that we were given one of the small 6 bed dorms. We later discovered that this was because of a large group of children (11-14 year old students) staying in the larger dorms. This wasn't a huge issue because we were only there for the...

The room was nice and spacious. It felt safe and secure even if my roommate couldn't lock and unlock the door! The bar was nice and staff pleasant. My biggest issue was there was no information about the area and the staff didn't seem to know much either. All we wanted on the first night was an area to go...

Dear Guest. We have many top class restaurants and places to go within 5- 15 minutes from Brown Sugar. Please send me a mail at liezel@brownsugarbackpackers.com with the date you stayed with us to determine which staff member was on duty to enable and ensure a better service to our guests and provide more training to new staff regarding this...

I stayed here a few times both in dorm room and private rooms, the staff are usually friendly and helpful, the facilities are good, especially the kitchen is big and useful. It's close to China town and Eastgate more, not much to do in the neighbourhood if you don't have a car, during the day it's safe to walk around....

If you're coming from a long flight, having an airport pickup is a big advantage. It is a nice estate with quality rooms, and the breakfast was typical backpacker fare which is fine considering there are no other real options in the area. Considering the reputation of the city is a little dodgy, you feel like you're in a safe...

Thanks for the review. Even though we specialise in accommodation we also offer transfers at the set rates to popular destinations, if the driver is available. We charge about R15 per kilometre and due to the many stops, traffic and turn around time to Park Station, we charge R120 per trip for 1-4 pax. UBER remains the cheapest metered transport...

Had a little trouble getting them on the public phone at the airport, but we managed. Three women also going there. We went to Post"Hey 19"& the van soon showed up. We had to past 2 checkpoints to get into the residential location. But those checkpoints were not there any other day. Left before breakfast after my first night, but there was a great...

Thank you for the review. Breakfast is served from 07h00-10h00 but if you leave before 07h00 and reception was informed of your early departure, we make sure you have a "Take Away Breakfast" and cup of coffee or tea before you leave. Random traffic spot check points are annoying but they are the normal in the area on various days...

A friend and I stayed in this hostel for 2 days whilst traveling in South Africa. The twin room was nice: table, wardrobe, radiator, fan, quiet at night, hot shower. Towels can be rented. Excellent free breakfast was included, which was a massive perk: eggs, beans, toast, muffins, cereal, coffee, tea. Free coffee and tea throughout the day too. Option of...

Stayed here two night in Jan 2016. Staff were friendly and informative - great as it was our first time in Johannesburg. The room was clean, as was the shower. Very cool lounge and bar area, and a decent breakfast spread. Venturing out in the near vicinity was not recommended, especially at night, and as we only had a day...

We stayed here two nights, and the place itself is quite nice, but I must say after traveling a month from CT up to Joburg, this was definitely the place with really unfriendly staff that also rips you off. Examples; they have shuttle service, we ordered it for 6 people and the price was suddenly doubled + two people had...

I am sorry that you feel "ripped off" because we have the rates of transfers and all other services advertised on large boards in reception and the information books in the rooms and charge about R15 per km. The Unfriendly staff issue will be addressed and noted in the staff meetings. We specialise in accommodation and related services and transfers...

We stayed here in the 18 bed dorm twice, first when arriving in South Africa and second when we was leaving. I would say that this backpackers is a good stop over as we found there's not really much going on in Jo'burg. The dorm itself is great, little weird that the beds are boxed in and a bit small...
