Checked in late when reception was closed but a lovely lady from the bar promptly checked us in. Room was cold even with heater on and amenities were minimal unfortunately. Iron but no ironing board provided which was odd. Older decor in general but suprisingly very very clean room and spotless bathroom. Receptionist was super friendly when checking out late....

Greetings Daniel C Thank you for informing us regarding the provision of iron without ironing board. It has been overlooked by our housekeeping team. The Grosvenor is a 3 stars hotel. You won't be short changed with essentials. Room rate won't be as price competitive as it is now if clients are yearning for more indulgence items. We strive to...

The over 100 year old hotel has been renovated nicely. The rooms are big and there's no noise from the bar below. There's free, although spotty wifi. Parking adjacent the hotel. You can eat in the bar or have a pint and charge to your room. There is a fob on your room key that allows you access into/out of...

Stayed for two nights as a couple on a business trip. Our room was nice, with tasteful decor. The hotel is in a great location in downtown near the shops and restaurants and convenient for walking down to Caroline bay. The staff were very helpful. We ate at the restaurant downstairs one night and it was fairly good. The hotel...

There is only one reason I couldn't recommend this hotel, but I'll come to that later. I stayed one week at the Grosvenor. I had the Queen's Suite to myself. Fantastic location and lots of space. Loved the leather sofas and the ladies on reception were friendly. The bathroom was adequate and there was good heating. The bed wasn't brilliant...

Greetings Peter S Guests' comfort is paramount here at The Grosvenor. Be mindful that The Grosvenor is a historical hotel, dated since 1875. Since then, technology has gone through leaps and bounds. The carpet material that you referred to is the same material that's been used in hospitality centres and also schools and hospitals. It provides superior thermal and sound...

The room is comfortable and warm. The bedroom part looks like it has been recently renovated - however the placement of the TV IN THE ROOM is awkward as its on an movable arm in the narrowest part of the room - which caused a few bumps to the head . The bathroom-PET HATE of mine Shower in the bath...

Greetings Hobartlover The room that you are referring to is Room 216. Room 215 is undergoing renovation right now, and after that is done, Room 216 will be the next in line that would have a complete renovation of the bathroom that you referred to. Yes, we wondered the same about the razor box in the bathroom. That applied to...

The Grosvenor is extremely well positioned, very central, a short walk to shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, with off-street car parking right opposite. Reception services were good, and the room was clean and spacious. It’s also very reasonably priced. We don’t usually dine in the hotel where we’re staying (to us it’s a good way of getting to know the...

Visiting family mid January. Nice rooms clean and good facilities. Very good staff who were helpful with directions and suggestions of other places to eat etc. Near to who we wanted to visit with new baby. Handy to town. Mind you everything is close by in Timaru

For what you pay for, this ticks all the boxes. Warm rooms, ensuite, television, easy walk to all attractions, friendly staff who seem to enjoy their jobs. Free wifi. Greetings Fforde Thank you for your objectivity. You were in family interconnecting rooms. Yes, sound insulation couldn't be helped with rooms that are meant to be interconnected somehow. Being a historical hotel, the timber over the years would have moved. Therefore, unlike a concrete floor, the gap of certain door is larger than the others. We applaud you MacGyver tendency,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Grosvenor has a penchant for authentic and unique design. Although we have been called a boutique hotel and a hip hotel, we're not sure what that really means. We're a little modern, and a little bohemian. Featuring an on-site restaurant and bar, The Grosvenor Hotel Timaru offers boutique & funky accommodation. Our accommodation offers feature art by local and international artists, throughout the hotel. You might stay that The Grosvenor is Timaru's Home of Modern Art (HoMA). With 44 rooms which are eco-friendly, sustainable and have green elements, like vintage furniture, low-VOC paints and recycled materials throughout. All accommodation has an ensuite with hairdryer, ironing board & iron, tea & coffee making facilities, complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi and TV. Fridges are available on request. Guests can enjoy dining in our fantastic restaurant which is now a Timaru institution, TGB (The Grosvenor Bar) is located in a one of a kind historical building with dramatic high ceilings, nostalgic exposed brick and modern touches. Whet your appetite with local, regional and international beers and cider. Then enjoy innovative tavern fare including traditional roasts, urban burgers, fresh salads, wrap, artisanal sandwiches and many other Kiwi favorites. ... more   less
