We recently visited Bettles as a launching pad to see Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley National Parks. We were pleasantly surprised to find such wonderful and hospitable people working there- from the front desk staff (Grace and Kate were so fun!) to the...More
I went to Bettles to go above the Arctic Circle. Learned a lot about the Arctic in the nearby Park Office. Great people. Although we were there for an afternoon snack the staf made up a lunch for us and gave us our Arctic Circle...More
My wife and I loved this place
Everything was just fantastic and we totally agree with all the previous "positive" comments.
A couple of things to add;
- the staff create a real "warm" environment
- if you are considering dog sledding we strongly suggest...More
Unique and unusual. Accommodations not luxurious, but for God's sake, this is the Arctic Circle!! Food was superb; fellow travelers incredibly interesting; lodge keepers (not natives) fun and entertaining. Dog sledding experience was wonderful!!! Don't miss it!This place has a laid-back family ambience. Book it...More
Bettles Lodge was the highlight of our 4week holiday, we stayed for 5days 4nights and we still didn't want to go. We felt welcomed as soon as we got off of the plane on the air strip, all the staff were welcoming and friendly for...More

HI Zoidberg69, If you could tell me where (and when) you've heard this, I will be happy to contact your source directly and set them straight. My Wife Heather and I took over about 3 1/2 years ago and have happily accepted all races and religions into our home (Bettles Lodge). I'm very disappointed that you've heard a absolutely untrue rumor such as this. Please remember to check the dates on the reviews you read. Heather and I have owned the Lodge since July 1st 2014. You may call me at the Lodge, 7 days a week to discuss any questions or issues you might have with me directly, if you like. We hope to see you in our Arctic paradise soon! Warm Regards from the Arctic! Eric L Fox

We were at Bettles Lodge in December--we went specifically to see the Northern Lights. It was cold (-20 to -30 degrees) and snowy. Eric and Heather are awesome. Eric gave us a tour of Bettles--took about an hour and it was very interesting. We hiked around the frozen area. We went to the Gates of the Arctic Visitor Center--right across from Bettles Lodge. That was VERY interesting. I would suggest later if you want to see the Northern Lights. Our main purpose of being there in December was to see the Northern Lights. So, because we were up for most of the night, we took it easy in the day. There is no guarantee, but the darker the better. Bettles is a small town--about 13 people live there. You are out in the "bush". Check on any side trips you are thinking about from Bettles--make sure they are still doing the trips in September. Bettles is a fly in town--that is the only way you can get in and out. Chat with Eric he will guide you in the right direction.
