This seems like it should be such a cool hostel, with artsy decor, common areas, and a bar... it's a shame it's been neglected the way it has. As others have said, cleanliness was a huge problem, partly because of the dogs but partly just from lack of cleaning. The bar was not stocked, but everywhere else was covered in...

I'm sure once this hostel was lively and had a fun atmosphere, but it just seems that nowadays no one seems to care about it enough to clean it properly. I'm used to roughing it and have spent plenty of time camping, so am more than comfortable with a couple of insects, but this place was crawling with roaches and...

I should say first that the staff were helpful and friendly. The place was filthy however. Twice I had to inform the staff about turds that the owners dogs made. And the dogs pissed on the floor as well. The whole place stinks. Avoid.

I dont recommend this place... The hostel was very disgusting... You always needed to search for the bathrooms in the hostel that were no overfloaded with poo... or the one that didnt have dog poo on the floor (the whole hostel smelled like dog poo anyway as when it happened that someone was cleaning they were just wipping out but...

This hostel was the worst hostel we've stayed at while travelling Central America. The room was tiny and resembled a jail cell,we had a private which was a bunk bed, we could barely fit our backpacks in and the both of us at the same time. It was incredibly dirty and there was junk everywhere. The bathrooms were dirty and...

I stayed here for one night and would not recommend it at all. I stayed in the largest dorm room which was the most expensive (the reason given for this is because the smaller dorms are nearer the bar and 'noisier' however the large dorm faces on to the street), the beds are small and not very comfortable, there are...

Galileo is an awesome value ! Great service from both Brians . The staff is super helpful with local and country wide information. Great location. Neat, little, well stocked bar. Dynamite comes in small packages. Will stay again on my return.

Would not recommend this place at all! The dorms were tiny and filthy dirty, the kitchen was gross and there are scruffy dogs allowed run around and p*ss on the floor, which none of the staff bother to clean up so the whole hostel stinks. Although the staff were nice and the bar was open 24 hours, definitely not worth...

We stayed at Galileo because the website made it sound alike cool place to meet backpackers. The staff were somewhat friendly, but not very knowledgeable about getting around San Jose and the bus system. To their credit some of the staff we talked to had only been in the area for a week. We paid for the private room with...

Almost could not stay here. The pillows were about 6 different colors and the floor had not been cleaned for years. Even had blood all over it. Would never stay here again. In unsafe neighborhood and people were let in the locked gate that should not have been.

“The room above the bar is also further from the street. if you're early to bed, early to rise, choose the rooms above reception. If you don't mind the bar noise until about 11pm, but you want to sleep later than 5:30am, choose a bed above the bar.”
