Hotel Don Carlos is an artist's dream. Beautiful original artwork is displayed throughout the establishment. Location is very safe considering that it is in the middle of a rundown and dangerous city. Rooms are charming and bathrooms look squeaky clean white. Only complaint is I need more than one pillow!!!

Stayed here one night - arrived late after 10 hour flight from Houston. Shown to rooms by night reception but not offered drink and no facilities to make one in room - a disappointing welcome to Costa Rica. Room was clean and bed comfortable.

Hotel San José is ok if you are planning on staying one night. Personnel was helpful, the rooms were ok, although the hot water tap in the shower kept running at 6 in the morning. Management said they would fix it later that day - our guess was that the rest of the clients would shower with cold water ....

I stayed at the Don Carlos twice during my trip to Costa Rica, just because it was a pretty nice place relatively convenient to the airport. It was clean and attractive and the staff was friendly and helpful. They helped us coordinate transportation to and from the airport and to our next spot on our trip. Breakfast was good. Overall,...

If you have to be in San Jose city centre (therre's not much to see there really) this a good bet. Quirky design and furnishings and a surprisingly good cafe style restaurant (although our steaks were very disappointing). Nice rooms, pleasant location in the older part of the city and good value for money.

The zip lines were great . The hotel has a large gift shop and the prices seemed in line with other shops The rooms were...

Location was perfect for me close to center of San Jose for shopping. Establishment was very clean and well maintained. Exceedingly courteous, helpful, professional staff with many english speakers, which I needed. I was impressed with the extensive original art collection displayed throughout the hotel. Restaurant is very nice with outdoor seating available and serving tastey, inexpensive meals. Made purchase...

I had visited Don Carlos on earlier trips to shop their gift shop, but finally stayed there this time. Everything about this Hotel is great. The beauty of the hotel with the artwork, fountains, and decor is the best. Location is right near downtown, but in the beautiful Barrio Amon area.

I liked the hotel and having lived in the city for so long. The neighborhood was not that big a distraction. I would take children to this hotel. Two things that ruined the stay where the breakfast (awful) and getting bit by bed bugs.
