We spent give days in this hotel. It is clean and very conveniently located near the centre of the city. The owner is very helpful. Patrick arranged trips for us, advised us how to get to some places by bus on our own, which helped us to save money. We felt like at home.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stayed a night here. I had not done any research into San Jose accommodations and came across this one by chance.

The rooms are quite nice, basic but clean (I will take clean over fancy any day!) and very comfortable. The staff/owners(?) were extremely helpful and polite. The overall environment was very relaxed and welcoming. The price is right too. This is one of the spots that I would say you get more than what you pay for.

Absolutely would recommend this and stay here again.

if you have to spend one or two nights in San Jose.

Good location, rooms are nice & clean, reasonable prices and super-friendly & helpful owners (as pretty much everybody else of the reviewers confirms). .

Next to railway track. Train at 0430 otherwise quiet line.
Close to museums and supermarkets.
Short walk to down town.
5 min taxi to bus station.
Ask for a room with a view so you don't get the internal room with no external windows and a pokey bathroom.
Helpful host, noisy dog.

I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in May 2014.

Initially, I was going to be fairly negative but changed my mind during my stay based on my experiences.

After several emails confirming my arrival and requesting a taxi to meet me at the Tica Bus terminal, I never received a response. I telephoned the night before to confirm my arrival and was told to arrange a taxi myself, which I didn't think was the best customer service.

However, once I did arrive, I soon discovered the owners were away on holiday at the time and arrived back on the same day that I arrived. Patrick (the owner) was incredibly friendly and helpful and spoke perfect English. It seems like the people that were looking after the place didn't speak English hence the problems I encountered.

My room was very clean and the temperature of the room itself was perfect. The bed was very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was in good condition The free WiFi worked throughout and the kitchen area downstairs was superb.

The hotel is situated a short walking distance from the centre of San Jose. There are a wide range of shops and restaurants nearby.

I paid $55 for my stay which I thought was pretty reasonable.

I would of given the hotel 5 out of 5 if it wasn't for the initial communication problems. I would however still fully recommend this hotel for your stay in San Jose.

Central location near the Museo Nacional (1 minute to walk). The rooms are clean and have a bathroom (hot water). The Owners (Patrick and his wife) are friendly and helpful. Just ask if you...! You can relax on the terrace and plan your trip.

Great place if you go to san jose!

Gracias por todo!

Great place to stay in San Jose and very close to the center. The owners of the hotels, Patrick and Alina are very friendly and helpful. They gave me suggestions on what to visit, and other important places to shop. The room was very comfortable and the bed mattress was excellent.
This hotel is also very affordable. I recommend this place to anyone.

We stayed here 5 times for one night and we could leave our stuff at his place. The rooms are really clean, every room has a bathroom and the hostel is pretty central. The Owner and his wife are really helpfull and friendly. Unfortunately is there a train track next to the hostel and its loud early in the morning.
But for me it wasn´t really annoying. So if you don´t care about a train passing by, this is a nice, safe place to stay in san jose. We paid 30 dollar for a double room.

! stayed here for three nights and was pleased with my stay. Patrick was there to answer and help with anything you have asked of him. The rooms were clean, walking distance to anything in the downtown area. I highly recommend this place.

This is not a hotel but a guest house- so those who are looking for luxury or generic hotel offerings- this is not the place for you- Casa Leon is like visiting a friends home -the manager Patrick who is Swiss was very accommodating- we stayed 2 nights- the first day he recommended a combo tour of the Volcano, Coffee Plantation and Waterfall- the tour was excellent -not too far out of San Jose- we had breakfast at a coffee plantation- and a buffett like lunch at a waterfall resort- this tour cost $124 and it took all day- well worth it- because we went into the mountain area- and walked in the lovely foliage and on the way saw Costa Rican homes - we also had the chance to walk in San Jose - I did not find this city impressive- rather run down- and few traffic lights- also we made the mistake of going to a restaurant that was a tourist trap- they charged us $74 for a simple meal for two which included $16 for a pitcher of fruit juice- I was later able to find more reasonably priced places to eat- we ordered Costa Rican food which is plantain and rice, chicken for $10-
We were very happy with the price of our stay at Patrick's Casa Leon was only $30 a night
