Casa Cambranes is a small hotel located in a neighborhood in Los Yoses section of San Jose Costa Rica. The room was comfortable. The staff is very friendly. Makes you feel like family. We were trying to find a rental car with their help. The few cars that were available were too expensive for our use. The desk clerks helped us find Interbus (another review). The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, gayo pinto, eggs, toast, coffee/tea, and a meat. Very good and plenty to eat. The area is quiet, but within walking distance of good restuarants, and small stores.

Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure of staying in a fantastic hotel in a very safe and convenient part of town. The host Carlos, Naty and the resident Marvin gave the place a comfort and homeliness which could not be equaled in many places. I arrived there before noon but Naty had my room ready in a very short time. Carlos later took me for a short walk to show me the nearest Shopping Centre and good restaurants close by. I was also provided with a phone in case of emergency. My last morning was a 5am departure but again no problem, light breakfast and taxi ordered on time. The hotel and hosts are a magnificent advertisement for the tourism industry and Costa Rica in general

What makes this small hotel a great place to stay are the hosts Carlos and Naty. They made us feel at home in their home. The attention and service they provide for their guests is excellent. We were made to feel welcome right away including being introduced to Marvin, their pet cat (who is quite the character). Naty drew a map of very good places to eat that were within walking distance, pointed out the bus routes to downtown and the big mall which is only a couple of blocks up. She lent us one of their local cell phones that they have on hand with pre-programmed numbers to reach either her, or Carlos should we be lost or need help in any way. That was above and beyond what we would expect in any hotel or B&B we've ever stayed at!

The Casa Cambranes is quaint and felt like we were staying with friends right away. Our room was very spacious, clean and had shampoo, soap and face cloths in the bathroom which you do not see in many other hotels in Costa Rica. The chocolates on the pillows were also a very nice touch at the end of the night.

Breakfast was included and the best that we had in our two weeks of travel. Naty's sister, who is training to be a chef did an excellent job cooking for the guests. The omelettes were just amazing! A plate of fruit, juice, tea, coffee, cooked to order eggs, ham, pinto Gallo were all on the list of possible choices.

The hotel is in a very quiet area of the city and close to the main road into town. There are plenty of restaurants close by, a grocery store, and a huge mall about two blocks up. Buses run frequently and it is only a 7 minute bus ride into downtown. We felt very safe walking around here and in taking the local buses.

Staying our last two nights at the Casa Cambranes or as we called it 'Casa Carlos, Naty and Marvin' was a great ending to our holiday in Costa Rica! We would definitely come back and stay with them again when in San Jose! Highly recommend this wonderful experience!

I was looking for an hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica when I made a reservation at Casa Cambranes for 31 nights. I was assisted by Julio Castellanos Cambranes, the manager.

Besides asking for a higher rate than any other hotels for the same quality in San Jose, Costa Rica they have a horrible service. They actually cancelled my reservation because they were demanding that I would have to pay in advance.

I am sure the quality & service they announce on their website is a scam as they wanted me to pay in advance. When I suggested to pay the first night only in order to see with my own eyes how the hotel was, and pay the following 30 nights right on the second night. They cancelled me the reservation.

Where in the world some hotel manager cancels a reservation? I am absolutely sure that he wasn't confident of himself and the hotel in order to let me pay for the next 30 nights on the 2nd night .

There are way other options in San Jose which offer better costumer service and price!

I stayed at Casa Cambranes late October 2012. It was excellent. The owner/manager Don Julio as well as his staff were very attentive, the rooms were beautiful (I was given a choice), and it was very quiet. In fact, I had the best sleep in a long time. I didn't rent a car and walked everywhere, due to the hotel's great location. I am definitively staying there when I am returning to San Jose, Costa Rica.

Don Julio's personal atention, willingness to please and interesting conversation is overwhelming. His loyal staff is also very open and helpfull.
I have been in three hotels of similar price in San Jose, and Casa Cambranes is by far the best.

Cambranes has some great features and some not so great features. First the good: the hotel is located in a great area of San Jose, which is saying a lot in a town in which finding a safe area with good hotels can be a struggle. Lots of good restaurants in walking distance and seemed very safe to walk. The breakfast is good too, and internet was fine. Now the "meh": the hotel certainly has seen better days. The lobby is run down and the rooms even more so. I had to request them to tighten the loose shower head after it fell off on the first night. The rooms in general are shabby and sheets, curtains and all furniture seem to be decades old. The owners are perfectly nice if approached but do not go out of their way to help out. Certainly not verbose people (even in Spanish). So Cambranes is a fine option, just don't expect to be blown away.

We flew into San Jose late and stayed here overnight before moving on to La Fortuna. Great place to stay! The owners were super friendly and helpful, helping us find a place to go exploring in the morning before our interbus. It's a quick walk or bus into downtown. The breakfast was great ( a traditional breakfast with rice and beans, scrambled eggs, fried plantains and a plate of fruit).

Naty and Carlos make you feel like a family member immediately. Very mellow without pretentiousness . It is like staying with your favorite cousin. Basic, clean room. Wonderful hot freshly cooked breakfast included. Close to buses, inexpensive restaurants, or gourmet if preferred. It is like the pension of your dreams.
As for the recent negative review, consider the source. Nuts!

I selected this hotel for my sister and I based on the tripadvisor reviews. The room was a basic room but the service was exceptional. Carlos, Natte and Marvin (the cat) made us feel at home. They were very welcoming. Our first night there Carlos walked us to the area where there were several restaurants and told us about each of them. Breakfast was included and was very good. The area appears to be pretty safe and we felt comfortable going out at night. We used the cell phone they gave us to contact them on a couple of occasions. The hotel is within walking distance of downtown and it is also easy to get around using Uber. We also took the bus to Paritta to the beach and stayed there for a night.

Hello Sara. It takes from 30-40 minutes to get to the airport.

My room only had a shower, no tub and was a fair size (I'm not exactly slim). As far as flushing the toilet paper goes, NO, there is even a sign on the wall about this. When I asked (never heard of this before) I was told this was common in Costa Rica due to the size of the pipes used for the waste water (being much smaller than the standard size found in Canada+US).

I've got a rental vehicle. Do you have a garage or gated area for guest vehicles?
Answer from Hotel Casa C

Hello. Unfortunately we don't have a garage. The people with rental Cars normally park right in front of the hotel. Othetwise, there is a public parking garage three blocks from the hotel and the cost of it is approximate $2 per hour. Looking forward to your stay!
