The hostel is located very central, facilities are very clean and the security is on point which I was very happy about considering that San Jose is pretty sketchy. One point that I would like to particularly emphasize is the helpfulness & kindness of Jose who works at the reception: he did everything to help and definitely went the extra... More

Not really much like a hostel. More like a cheap hotel. My bed in a dorm room was $18 but would have been $14 if they had any other guests to put in it. The girl at the reception desk could neither speak Spanish slowly enough to be understood, or write legibly. (No English spoken). Not very helpful either. Had... More

I arrived late Sunday night on the bus I was spent and told myself the first hostile I see is where I will stay. A short walk from the station was the Gran imperial. When I went in I was expecting an expensive price ,to my surprise it was under $ 20.00 us. The staff is very helpful and the... More

Decent and quite large hostel hiding behind small steel gate that is not completely obvious from the street when there is much people on the street. Good kitchen and common area. We had a nice and clean room with a good TV set. Walls are thin, you will here traffic and noise from the street even if you are in... More

Clean, safe, friendly staff, great location to bus terminals and downtown. Computer lists price at $22 a single but I paid less than $18 in colones. There are 3 free computers and a kitchen if you chose to cook. food can disappear from the fridge. backpackers should really skip CR it has become to pricey.

Stayed here for 1 night. It is close to the busstation from the airport and close to other terminals to leave the next day. Service was good and friendly. Rooms were secure as was the hostel. Though there were men selling things in front of the door so sometimes difficult to pass. Rooms were okay. Television with a lot of... More

The rooms were fairly clean, bed ok, but the walls are really thin and there were some slanted vents at the top of the wall next to the hallway which let in light and more noise... The staff seemed ok - the guy in the morning was very helpful guiding us to the bus stop for the airport and telling... More

I used Imerial twice while in San Jose. This of course, is a hostel not a hotel and you´ll get what you pay for. The whole business is family run, meaning it´s a family that runs it for the owners. The price is awesome, since I stayed for a few days I got a discount on my room I also... More

For the price (8000 Colones, or 16 USD; single), you can not beat it. You are right in the center of town. Two markets and street vendors allow travelers the option of cooking a nice meal in the high quality kitchen. The rooms are clean and simple, and the showers have hot water. A rare luxury for backpacker priced accommodation... More

You cannot find a cheaper place in San José with the amazing location of this hostel. The place is simple and without any decoration, the beds are small and the appearence is not like a warm place, but you can have a private room for US$14 dollars, in front of the central market, where you can have very good food...
