A couple of minutes back from the beach Mal Pais Surf Camp is set in beautiful grounds. We were in one of the villas and thoroughly loved our time here, we had a fridge which enabled us to prepare fruit / yogurts/ cereal for breakfast. There appears to be lots of different accommodation options to suit all budgets The gardens...

Spent a week at the surf camp and had a blast. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. I arrived earlier than expected and camped for a few nights, and then my friend arrived and we moved into cabina for the rest of the week. The camp is basic and simple, but everything you need is there -- good surf,...

We stayed here for a few nights on a whim just passing by. During the offseason no one is here so we had pretty much the whole place to ourselves. The owner Douglas is a really good guy and Tank the dog was a great tour guide! Ping pong, beautiful pool, fruit trees, nice restaurant, monkeys in the trees and...

I booked this place on a whim and it ended up being one of the coolest places I've stayed in CR. It's owned and run by a very cool original surf dude who came here long before there was even a town. I stated in one of their ranchos which is basic but perfect and has a little fan to...

Being marginal surfers at best, this was an ideal culture, community and facility for our needs. The service provided by the Packman Family was extremely special, catering to our specific needs. Whether engaged in surf lessons or finding other area and beach adventures, staff did an exceptional job. Our two weeks spent at MPSC was a great opportunity to develop...

We've been staying in one of their ranchos for 5 nights. Really spacious with amazing lockers and a chilly but welcome breeze during the night. You can rent surfboards (mostly longboards and minimalibus) for a decent price and the breakfast in their restaurant was good aswell! You only have a 5min walk to the beach and to the next atm!...

Surf camp is a very unique and special place. I've stayed at MPSC several times over the last couple of years, for 3-4 weeks in each visit. What brings me back are the reasonable prices, feeling of safety, beautiful grounds, open air accommodations, interesting guests, attentive staff and excellent ownership. The surfing is fun, close to camp and a great...

We drove into Mal Pais Surf Camp from Montezuma. My boyfriend was in surf heaven. The whole set up was super cool and laid back. We planned on renting a cabina until we realized it had bunk beds and we had brought all of our camping gear anyways so we decided to camp. It was cheaper and the camping area...

Stayed here for 4 nights over the New Years holiday. Coming from San Jose, we took a taxi to the ferry in the city of Puntarenas (about a 1.5 hour ride). The ferry leaves a few times a day (I believe once every 2-3 hours or so) and we were able to catch the 11am ferry. The ferry ride can...

I pulled into town January 1, 2016, the busiest day of the year for the area, looking for a hotel room, at any price. Doug, a former boat captain from Cocoa Beach, Florida, and now the proprietor of the surf lodge since 1996, took one look at me, recognized how desperate I was, and then, instead of opting to gouge...
