Finding Manatus Hotel was a real boon. Small in size but big in atmosphere, comfort, friendliness and facilities, it provided, for us, perfect access to Tortuguero’s fabled waterways away from the crowds which they now, understandably, attract. The Hotel’s boats were small, clean and comfortable and, having 4 stroke outboards, were quite quiet also. The (big) bonus was that the...

We spent 2 nights here - unfortunately the weather wasn't great, a bit overcast and some rain but when the sun came out there is a very pleasant small swimming pool. The food was good, especially the tuna and the drinks were reasonably priced - good margaritas. The rooms are quite basic but comfortable and clean. The boat trips which...

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Manatus. Everything was great: the food, service, tours, transfers, drinks, lodging and the grounds. We had a mother sloth and her baby outside her cabin and watching them was a highlight of our trip. The wifi was weak in the rooms but worked well in the office. We were always a small group in...

The Manatus is beautifully located and looked after by a charming staff and very attentive owner/director. The guides, Adrian and Luis, were exceptional in their knowledge and wildlife spotting abilities. The much smaller boats than the other lodges, sitting only 2 rather than 4 abreast, made for much better wildlife viewing and photography. All meals were included, given the hotel's...

Stayed for 3 nights. Most activities based around a 2 night stay. We did an extra day in the reserve - all by boat - guided boat trips were excellent. Even had our own resident Sloth for the stay - great fun, relaxed and excellent experience in a relatively small lodge - which made it a more intimate experience.

Maybe we just got lucky, with the weather, guide and fellow guests but this was an exceptional lodge, right on the lagoon with quick and easy access to wildlife opportunities as well as Tortoguero village, a slightly ramshackled collection of houses sited on a narrow strip of land separating the lagoon from the Caribbean. The large expanse of the lagoon...

We arrived by boat which was an experience but a very nice one although not so good in an opene topped one in the rain, which we had quite a lot of although it was the dry season! All meals were included and they were very nice. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We enjoyed our trips out on...

Lovely place situated on one of the major waterways. It only takes around 25 people and is offered on a fully inclusive basis (booze only paid for). The rooms were very good & spacious, situated in their garden adjacent to jungle. We had visiting wildlife constantly - monkeys through to sloths. The guides are informative and enjoy their work -...

Mosquitos swarming around us at meals was bad. They must be eliminated. Otherwise, this is a very nice hotel. The boat trips were very good. I lost an earring ini our room. It was mother-of-pearl, in colors of blue and purple, in a square shape, in a drip style. Did one of the cleaning ladies find it?

Lovely rooms. Only hotel in the area with A/C. Great food. Property is very large and beautifully landscaped with deep wooded area for a night frog tour. Sloth and baby lived in a tree on property. Many river cruises arranged for residents to see variety of birds.
