We had a very nice experience staying here. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it was quite crowded. We did a morning photography tour by boat and an afternoon hike through the jungle with guide. The morning boat tour was really well done because our captain was phenomenal and spotted the most unusual wildlife for...

The only way in and out is by boat, but every time we approached the hotel along a narrow canal it never lost its charm. Trees and roots met on the water casting fascinating shadows and shapes. Unnamed creatures called out - sometimes we saw them, sometimes we didn't. The hotel was spread out over pleasant gardens and the rooms...

what we liked was the remoteness of the resort. It was the furthest away from where we started on the boat. It had a real feel of being in the rainforest. We had good boat excursions, kayaks (we recommend going on your own if you have time), and the walk thru the forest. Monkeys were seen in the resort and...

It takes a very long time (from approximately 6 AM to 3 PM) to reach the lodge from San Jose, so keep this in mind when making your plans. There is an unnecessary stop at Tortugeuro village which is replete with tourist shops. This stop is followed by a short boat trip to purchase passes for the national park. It...

we stayed here in Early Feb 2017, it needs to be kept in mind this is remote, water access only. No internet, sat. phone for emergencies, clinic about 40 minutes by boat. The rooms have no air-conditioning, but in Feb it was a non issue. We left the room open and slept very well indeed, frog out side the room...

wonderful location where you can wake to the sound of monkeys, frogs etc. The staff were charming and the buffet style food excellent. Loads of wildlife to be seen. The only thing that was lacking was some sort of drying room- being rainforest, the rain was torrential and it was impossible to wash anything and get it dry. We would...

We did the 4 day 3 night tour to Turtle Beach Lodge which I would recommend. It was nice to have the extra day (as opposed to the 3 day option) to relax and enjoy the grounds before heading back. Our guide Ricardo was absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I are still talking about him! His genuineness, passion for his...

The lodge provided a perfect retreat for a relaxing vacation. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The food is always good and includes regular vegetarian options. The staff are always friendly and professional. The grounds are well cared for and beautiful. It is so much fun to watch the monkeys and the variety of birds while walking the grounds....

We signed up for 3 days 2 nights.... It was awful service!! The website promised a tour of a working banana plantation.... If you consider pulling over on the side of the road and the "guide" stating a few facts a tour, then so be it. Guide was very unwilling to answer questions for the entire three days. First morning...

The other reviews have said it all. This provided us with our most memorable stay in a tour of CR. It is a brilliant place to stay in an amazing location. Meals were served en masse and were fine. A nice touch was tea, coffee and water on hand 24/24.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The area of Tortuguero is rightfully called The Amazon of Costa Rica because access is only by boat on Jungle Rivers. Turtle Beach Lodge, 5 miles north of the town of Tortuguero, is a secluded resort spanning 175 acres with miles of jungle trails, a meandering private canal, and a half mile of beach adjoining still more isolated beaches. The lodge accommodates approximately 80 guests; assisted by a well trained staff and guides who ease you into an exciting jungle experience. Stay in the beautifully landscaped cabinas, swim in our turtle shaped pool, relax in the adjacent shady hammock hut with food and drink from the restaurant and bar. ... more   less
