We recently spent 4 nights at this magical lodge. The setting is perfect for a stay in the jungle. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were rustic....but "good" rustic. Room was clean, beds comfortable, and windows only had screens which was great for communing with nature, while keeping the bugs out. The howler monkeys did their thing...

La Tortuga is an amazing sanctuary in the rain forest jungle. The rooms are screened in without windows so that you can enjoy the sounds of the jungle. The howler monkeys were active in the evening and in the morning. We did not need to use the ear plugs that were supplied during the night. The accommodations and food were...

Dear wienerdogsdad, You make an excellent point, binoculars will make your trip even more exciting. We recommend (8x42), 7x32 minimum (getting a closer look at wildlife is really rewarding). There are some very good binoculars being made now and they're not as expensive as they used to be. If you can swing it, and you love wildlife, they are a...

Four of us stayed here in February in two lakeside lodges. The rooms were lovely and it was amazing to be woken by howler monkeys in the morning & all the other wildlife calling to each other. The windows are just mesh so the rooms are lovely & breezy. The staff & food were excellent & the tours organised for...

Dear grantiec2015, It sounds like you were a great fit for the lodge. It's designed for nature lovers. The screens on the windows afford guests the luxury of going to sleep and waking to the sounds of a vibrant and fascinating lowland tropical rain forest. We hope to see you at Tortuga Lodge again someday. Natalie Ewing Director Marketing &...

My wife and I stayed for two nights in March staying in the Penthouse Suite. The room is large, light and airy with a breeze blowing through and had the advantage of having a verandah both to the front, overlooking the river, and the back overlooking the gardens. The food at the lodge is very good and they were very...

We only stayed one night in Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, but had a wonderful stay. The gardens are breath-taking with so much wildlife. We were able to go on a boat tour into the national park where we saw even more wildlife. Then a guided evening tour through the gardens allowed for even more wildlife spottings, including 2 eye lash...

Dear Kari T, As you say, Tortuguero is one of the easiest places in Costa Rica to see wildlife. We offer free nature walks in the gardens of the lodge at 6am and 3pm every day. You can also book tours into the National Park either by motorized boats or by kayak. They both go with professional Naturalist Guides. More...

Tortuga lodge was fantastic. The room, meals and staff were all excellent. Having monkeys, toucans, and other wildlife right off our porch was perfect for us. We did the interesting Wildlife Boat Tour and Tortuguero Village and Sea Turtle Conservancy trip. The guides (Elvis & Jordan) were great and showed their wonderful knowledge and appreciation for nature and the animals...

Dear rroy3, You're right, this is getting away from it all and getting very close to nature and it's creatures. If waking to the sound of Howler monkeys barking in the forest and Tiger heron's courting on the dock is sounds like what you're dreaming of, we're probably a great fit for you. Brilliant place to explore the coastal wetlands and rivers and forest on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The accommodation was very comfortable and the apartments/lodges and settings were out of this world. The first stop on our tour and it delivered so much. We had our first sightings of Sloths, howler and spider monkeys, iguanas and more wonderful birds...

The rooms are in little wooden lodges set amid a lush garden between the canal and the Caribbean. There are two clean pools (baby and regular size). The rooms are basic but charming with a little porch to sit out on. Our shower didn't work very well with just a trickle of water which I didn't mention to reception because...

Dear HannahPari, It's great to know that you had such a good time in Tortuguero. You said that the lodge where you stayed had one baby pool and one regular sized pool. You must have stayed somewhere other than Tortuga Lodge, because we only have one swimming pool. Natalie Ewing Director Marketing & Guest Satisfaction

As part of our 16-day travel plan from Costa Rica Expeditions, this was our first stop of 4 different destinations and what an amazing start to our vacation! Beautiful rooms with lovely views. Relax in your own hammock, as you gaze out at the river and the jungle beyond. The food is out of this world and the service is top-notch.
