Colin, Fred, I am so sorry that I haven't written this review yet. To be clear, in my 35 years of travel, stays in hotels, motels and places, some should never talk about. Hotel Banana Azul was the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed in. The owner, manager, and all their wonderful staff make it an experiance that will...

This was perfect for my wife and I. We traveled with a group of friends. The grounds were beautiful. The staff was gracious. The food was delicious. We loved everything. Town is a short bike ride away and the distance is just enough to keep your surroundings quiet. In the Garden Bath Suite, we found the floor to be VERY...

Banana Azul was the 3rd hotel we stayed at in PV, and while the grounds are beautiful & it sits right on the beach, it is not worth the money. we had bugs in our room, & virtually NO privacy. the tiny ocean rooms open onto a shared balcony & you can literally walk into your neighbors room. it is...

Dear BonafideTrueDetroit, I am sorry to hear that your stay with us was not a good fit. While hotel owners don't like bad reviews, they can serve a purpose in helping educate others that might be deciding if your facility is right for them. We go to great lengths to try and make sure potential customers know what they are...

Called about the 69 last minute special was up sold into using their ocean view room for $135..the free breakfast was terrible ; the eggs and coffee were both served cold and the fruit was super mushy . The pictures of the pool posted online are misleading the pool is actually very small. The ocean view rooms are very noisy...

I am grateful that we as hoteliers have an opportunity to clarify a few missing details in this review. The (co-) owner you are referring to is Fred (Franklin is the popular bartender). And yes, I am sure he did indicate we cater to "other types of travellers". It is quite clear on all our website and material that we...

After travelling in Panama, it was such a pleasure to come to this place (again). I cant say enough about the staff...everyone was so sincere in trying to make sure everything was just right. The grounds are beautiful, the food is great, the attention to detail is a refreshing change. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking or a...

This is a wonderful hotel, right on the beach, with great staff, good food, and extra-ordinary landscaping. One of my favorite hotels ever. My wife and I stayed here for our honey moon and it was a great experience!

My girlfriend and I went here along with my friend and his girlfriend. We stayed for a few nights in the "Jungle Room" I think it was. The accommodations were large and and sufficient. We especially liked the large soaking tub and hammock on the back patio. The hotel itself has a nice layout, you walk out of your door...

Banana Azul has the right formula for vacation comfort, convenience, and relaxation. Located on the Caribbean side right on the beach, there’s little separating you from a short walk to the ocean and beyond. It’s a 20 minute stroll via the beach into town, very nice. No car is required and I would highly recommend NOT driving in Costa Rica....

10pm The night before original departure date: We were packing for Costa Rica, Banana Azul, and our belated Honeymoon. Wife gets sick. Serious stomach bug. If you are going to Puerto Viejo this is a must stay place. The owner Collin makes you feel like a friend staying at his home. The staff also reflects this attitude. I wish i had stayed here for my whole trip it truly is paradise. Any room here is great because you wont be spending much time in it....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of 22 beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans (some with A/C), and free WiFi. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Caribe Fun Tours is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
