The location and the idea of this place are fascinating (it's properly 'in the jungle'), but we felt that the line between 'natural' and ' a bit scruffy' wasn't ideal..... The bungalows are big and spacious, but they're also pretty rough around the edges. The bed linen is exhausted and fell off the bed every single night, the mosquito-proofing is...

We had the pleasure of staying at Shawandha the rooms were excellent. But more over the food there was unsurpassed. The quality of their French food, rivaled the finer resturants in France. The propriator of this establishment, really knows how fine food should taste. Even if you don't stay at the Shawandha Lodge you should stop by for a fine...

This was my third visit to Shawandah since 2004. Each and every visit has been amazing. A year before this trip I kept telling my wife that my dream for my 40th was going to Shawandah and having dinner at the nearby Italian restaurant La Pecora Nera. Lo and behold, two months before the date my wife surprises me with...

Although I've been to Costa Rica many times, this was my first time in Puerto Viejo. It rained incessantly for our entire stay, but the fact that the lodge is on the road allowed us to wander around, even when the trails were not passable. Although the cabins are somewhat basic, the common area is lovely, and allowed us to...

The lodge was beautiful, we just ate breakfast there, but well presented It states breakfast at 7:am but it was 7:30 before staff waited on guests. We had a small child and they have dogs that do not like children, it would have been nice if they had put them in office so we could eat and not worry about...

Great place with a private beach trail to the Caribbean ocean and the bungalow sits right in the jungle but has all the amenities needed for a relaxed vacation!

I have to say that the staff at the Shawanda Lodge was the nicest/friendilest I've encountered in awhile. Maria, Caleb, Mau and the rest of the staff awesome. All the food was 5 star. This was the most relaxing, beautiful setting. All the gorunds were clean, the cabanas unique. The flowers and wild life was amazing. This is a eco...

We had never experienced anything like Shawanda as we mostly travel in more mainstream tourist locales. My brother took us there last Spring and we fell in love with the natural elegance and style of the place. Our open air cottage was elegant, comfortable, & well designed and we loved the sounds and sights of the jungle setting. The dining...

In general Shawanda was ok. About the Breakfast, it was very good! It is a little far away from Puerto Viejo, but if you have a car, that is no problem, or if not, you can always rent a bike... If you want to go to the beach, there is 5-minute walk through the jungle, you will find it awsome!!...
