Having already been to the Pacific side, I'd wanted to explore the eastern coast of Costa Rica, so we stayed at Villas del Caribe on the advice of a friend of a friend. I'm going to try to write a fair review here, because I can see how this place would be great for some people--but it definitely isn't for...

We stayed here with friends and it's in a very good location. One of the problems we incountered the restaurant wasn't open in the evening, so we had to go to town to eat. The rooms were nice, beds where very comfortable and the sound of the Caribe was soothing. We also seen toucans behind our rooms and sloths in...

My husband & I were book here with another couple on a groupon deal. We stayed in a "superior" room on the 2nd floor away from the pool...slept like babies, but we love the sound of the waves and the pounding rain. The bed was a bit hard for our taste (better than too soft). Our internet worked great in...

I love showing up in low season with my laden-down bicycle: I get smoking deals. This is a great beachfront hotel. Thanks (and it is a heartfelt thanks) to the Cocles/Chiquita/Uva Triumvirate, there are almost no true beachfront hotels along this coast, but this is one of them. The staff here are really great. I left a debit card in...

My husband and I are seniors who very recently stayed in this excellent resort for 10 of the greatest days of our 6 weeks in Costa Rica. One could not ask for better service. Fresh linen daily, the pool was pristine due to a hard working pool man every day by 7:Not only is this hotel right by the ocean...

I am writing this review while sitting by the open front desk which is right on the beach. The rooms of this hotel are also right on the beach. This fact alone should give this hotel a higher overall rating than it currently has. Most of the hotels here in Puerto Viejo are actually "just off the beach". This means...

Good buffet breakfast available till 11am. One of the few hotels on the sea front, few hundred metres from the crashing Caribbean waves. Yes, it is noisy, but you don't go to Puerto Viejo for peace and solitude... Noisy rain, sea and a bit of traffic. But clean, cheap, WiFi, all-day coffee available, nice clean pool, table tennis, table football,...

$80 per night for our standard room with a full breakfast included. Clean, comfortable, basic, but nice beds, a good restaurant with Caribbean food, friendly staff, free internet and a 5 minute drive to Puerto Viejo. 25 yards to a good beach and a nice clean swimming pool on the property. This place has soul and is very laid back.

I was hesitant about staying here because an earlier review stated that the place was noisy. We decided to stay here anyway and I wish we hadn't. While there is direct access to the beach, the rooms themselves are constructed in such a way that you can hear your neighbors from several sides. We stayed in a junior villa so...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Life is at its tranquil best at Villas del Caribe. The days go something like this: You wake to the sound of bird songs and a view from your bed of silvery palms and clear blue sea. You throw open the sliding doors and take to the hammock on the balcony for a little rest, refreshed by the ocean breeze. You may now be ready to take a dip in our swimming pool and enjoy the elevated thatched Jacuzzi for a relaxing massage.Once the lure of the sea becomes too much, you wander through the landscaped gardens onto the beach path, where you face a decision between the long, deserted golden sand beach to the left or the many pristine golden sand beaches to the right. You settle for one of the shallow, sandy natural lagoons formed by the coral reef right offshore, and watch tropical fish wiggle past your toes. After a fresh water shower on your terrace, you walk over to the SeaSide Restaurant for breakfast or a snack, then you take a bike and cycle down the flat paved road past fields, forest, a few thatched bars and restaurants to Puerto Viejo for coffee or a drink, the local gossip, and some good, fresh fish at the beachfront store. You spend the afternoon alternating between the beach and the sea, the loungers on the terrace, and the hammocks on the balcony. ... more   less
