This is a tricky review to write because Chilamate has some great points but also some negative points. Obviously from all the information to hand, Chilamate is apparently making a real difference in the local community and for that they should be applauded. But at these prices, I think the accommodation needs some serious attention. First the Positive: Great Points:...

My partner and I stayed here for two nights, and loved every moment. Comfortable rooms and good food, and unbeatable surroundings - it was incredible falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle. The owner, Meghan, was extremely friendly and accommodating, and William and Carlos were excellent rainforest guides. We hope to come back soon!

What a wonderful place. I wasn't sure about it when we arrived ; it is basic ( wonderful bathroom 'door' in our room!) but very comfortable . The couple who run it( and built it ) could not be lovelier. The food was wonderful , the staff delightful and it was a naturalist's dream. We slept in the rainforest! Do...

The Eco Retreat is super - but the people who run it are even more so. We're a senior couple (82 & 80), Meghan and Davis looked after us as if we were their grandparents. The prices are a bargain, the accomodations (thankfully not fancy) very nice, the food delicious (if there's better beans & rice anywhere in Costa Rica...

We loved our time at Chilamate! I can't say enough for Meghan and Davis. They were such warm and kind people, and so helpful with information about tours and activities that suited our family. And the food, oh my god...it was the best food we had in our two weeks in Costa Rica! We later found out that their recipes...

We had a wonderful time staying at Chilamate. This is a paradise - both charming and a bit rustic. We were travelling with 2 kids (9 and 5) - all of us loved it. Meghan and her family are tremendously warm, and help everyone feel like part of the family, the staff are friendly and helpful - and the meals!...

Many people travel to Sarapiqui for the world class birding. Famous Selva Verde Lodge is just up the street. I think they are a little pricey but see for yourself. Here is a cute little eco-lodge alternative in the same forest run by a delightful family. I like the covered walkways as it rains a lot here. I loved out...

A lovely family run retreat in a beautiful open location surrounded by rainforest. The family were welcoming and very helpful. The cabin was comfortable. The meals were excellent and the best Costa Rican food we had. The complimentary guided hike in the rainforest was lovely and we saw plenty of wildlife. We could also watch monkeys from the garden. There is...
