We love Chilamate so much we returned on our recent trip. We visited 3 years ago and just got back from a 10 day kayaking trip with Selva Whitewater. During our trip we stayed with Chilamate again and our only regret was that we didn't stay there more nights on our kayaking adventure around the various parts of Costa Rica....

Carolina enchanted us with her lively and engaging story of chocolate growing and production. The opportunity to watch and then taste the chocolate at each stage was great. The project is self funded. asking for donations from visitors and the shop sells goods, including chocolate, which supports the local economy so you must buy something here to support this fantastic...

A lovely small-scale family lodge (not a luxury hotel), a series of cabins and a main meeting / dining space, run by big-hearted Meghan and her husband Davis (who built the whole place!!). It has great food and early nights. Set in the jungle, you sleep to the sound of the river it fronts on, woken by howler monkeys. Gumboots...

I would definitely go back to this family run and welcoming place. Sadly I only stayed one night due to my itinerary. Megan went out of her way to see that I was comfortable and had things to do to experience the most of my time there. I went on a guided hike that was included in the room costs...

I really enjoyed this place! Its off the beaten path and actually in the jungle. Its mostly open-air, including the reception, restaurant, and some bathrooms. The food was realy good, and all was served buffet style. The staff were really friendly. Megan and David, the owners, live on-site with their family. They are always checking in and making sure you...

We stayed here with our 4 children for 2 nights and loved it here!! Everything about this eco retreat is authentic Costa Rica. The rooms were very clean and airy and fit right in with the surrounding jungle. The owners, Meghan and Davis, are so hospitable and accomodating and make you feel very welcome. The lodge was built by hand...

I travelled in July with my 14-year-old daughter. It was a perfect introduction to responsible and conscientious travelling. The grounds are beautiful and everything seemed to be prepared with thoughtfulness and love. We travelled to other tourist areas after our stay and the contrast was huge. This is not a tourist destination for luxury seeking tourists. It was truly a...

After a long drive we arrived at Chilimate to be greeted by Mehgan and her husband David. We were offered a choice of rooms and opted for the one with the biggest decking area. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, although the lack of AC made it quite difficult to sleep as it was very hot and humid during our stay.The...

We stayed for 2 nights at the start of our honeymoon. Considering the location the facilities here are very good. We had hot water, Wi-Fi and, perhaps most impressively, no bugs in our room at all! The scenery is amazing - relaxing in our hammocks on the edge of the rainforest was a particular highlight. The guided tour with William...

You are in the rain forest and you really can feel what living there is really like. A true eco retreat with great organic food and wonderful host family and staff. We even got to participate in the cook's birthday party. Only five cabins and a dorm make for an intimate experience. Tucked across the river and near a swimming...
