We spent almost two weeks at Fenix. We really enjoyed the proximity to the beach (20 meters?) and the site. It is well organized, well managed and it has everything you need. The small pool is perfect for the kids and the small appartement was well equipped. You can cook, use the BBQ and ask for laundry service (laundry as a small fee). The place is a short distance of walk to the town (10 min) by the beach, and there is a small grocery at 2 min, of walk where you can find all the basic you need. There is a fisherman close that can sell you fresh fish, we used it couple of times and it was great. Jay, the host, is a hard working man, spending most of its time maintain and improving the place and he was always there to assist us when needed. We recommand this place, a little hidden paradise.…
The room was great, the views and place are beautiful. Stay here every time we travel to Samara. We enjoy walking on the beach and drinking coffee on the bench provided by the hotel. Jay does a great job with the hotel.
Fenix Rating: Staying at the Fenix is like being on an episode(s) of Seinfeld, or, as in my case, being inspired as a creative writer on Seinfeld on a daily basis, in a most beautiful, serene, magical setting, flowing with characters - whom I would want to have in my life forever, well mostly. Just to create a distinction, Seinfeld is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all time. So this is the distinction, one being a highly regarded sitcom, and the Fenix being a highly recommended boutique hotel in the beautiful town of Samara, Costa Rica. THE HOTEL, THE CHARACTERS, & THE LOCATION The facility & the owner Jay - read the other reviews - they speak 100% true & honest so I’ll say no more on that. It’s the people the Fenix attracts, the characters that makes it the #1 choice to stay at. Small, intimate, safe, clean - right on the beach (not just in the pictures but actually on the beach) with a meticulously loved & maintained garden & natural canopy for shade - in proximity to anything that you want or need. Any questions - ask Jay and be prepared for a straight up & honest answer :) For this 50ish year old female solo traveller, I have made Fenix on the Beach my “mainstay” in Costa Rica for upwards of 120 nights over the past 2 years. Guests (characters) have included beautiful families from Switzerland, Colorado, Germany, Canada, blissful couples in love from New York, both young & old, to the newly exploring & travelling college friends from Denmark, & the Mother/Daughter get-away from Prince Edward Island, the Fenix is for everyone & Jay goes out of his way to make sure of this. Everyone is made to feel like Family at the Fenix, if you so choose. So welcome to an episode of Seinfeld, or as it’s known “Fenix on the Beach” I highly recommend getting comfortable for many episodes (days) at the Fenix, it will likely be a regret if you don’t. PS - “Cheers”, another highly regarded sitcom comes to mind in parallel to the Fenix “Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came” Enjoy your stay! Pura Vida!…
The location of this quaint ‘hotel’ is perfect. There are Beautiful grounds that Jay maintains, daily. Room was equipped with all the dishes/utensils needed to cook all of your meals, if desired. A short 15 min walk on the beach to town includes restaurants and grocery stores. Impossible not to relax in the pool, or hammock while listening to the sea. The staff loves Hershey’s chocolate, a treat for their hard work. Only criticism is the mattresses need to be upgraded.
It was just beautiful. Jay keeps the grounds cleaned up nicely and there's plenty places to lounge and relax on the property. Stunning views. The room was just exactly what was needed if you were to make your own meals...plenty of dishes, bowls, appliances etc... also a grill and outdoor eating area. 15 minute walk up the beach to the town and restaurants. What I liked best was that the Fenix was the perfect place to chill. The least...the mattress wasn't very comfortable.
Super well-equipped kitchen, everything you could possibly need. Coffee maker and coffee. The walls were thick enough that we couldn’t hear the people next door. Perfect location, right on the beach. Lots of loungers and shade. Boogie boards available to use. The pool was great for cooling off. Jay was very helpful with great recommendations. He arranged a lovely potluck and grilled mahi-mahi for everybody one night.
This small 6-room hotel is exactly what we were looking for. It ticked all the boxes to make our little family happy.Only few steps out of the room and you are on the beach, peaceful and in a 10-minute walk along the beach you are in the town centre. Jay goes above and beyond to make all the guests are having a good time. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax! A little piece of paradise, we will be back for sure :)
This hotel is awesome! Paradise really! If you want a private beach on the Pacific, front door of your room 30 yards from the ocean, phenomenal sunsets, and a really cool owner who will make your stay the best it can be, then you need to stay here! Words simply can’t describe how great a find this hotel is.
Words cannot express how amazing this location was! So beautiful, relaxing and peaceful. Its literally like having your own beach with beautiful sights and being one with the nature around you! J (“Mr. Fenix”)went above and beyond to help us out and make our stay even better. Can’t wait to visit again and refer lots of friends and family to this wonderful experience! 🌞 🏝 🌴
This gorgeous hotel is right on the beach with plenty of shade. Only 6 rooms so it is quiet, everyone is friendly especially the American owner, Jay. 15 minute walk to town or easy drive. Small pool to cool off in. Love it!
