Thank you to Lisa, Bridget, Mario, the rest of the staff and last but by no means least Harry for making our 4 night stay so good. 101 species of birds seen well including Sunbitterns plus Blue Morpho butterflies in the pasture. A special thank you for the birthday cake and sparkling wine to celebrate my wife's birthday. Eating communally...

This property has a number of feeders for hummingbirds and it puts out fruit to attract other birds. As a result, you can see and photograph an amazing array of birds here. The rooms are very old, have few electrical outlets, and the outlets don't accept 3-prong or even 2-prong polarized plugs. However, the staff is happy to provide an...

At Rancho Naturalista we strive to make each of our guest’s vacation at our lodge a special time for them. We understand all that goes into planning a nice vacation and we do not like for anyone to be disappointed. Because of this we are very sad to see the rating that you gave Rancho Naturalista. It’s true that many...

You've read it all before. Great location, amazing wildlife right outside you door. Fantastically helpful birders on the staff and best of all I got my Sunbittern image that I wanted. We even experienced a couple of minor earthquakes whilst in bed. We'll go back

I would like to start by qualifying the superlatives laid down here, by saying that I am a an international tour leader who visits Costa Rica, and other countries, regularly during the course of my job as a professional bird guide. I live in Ecuador but travel all over the world each year in the pursuit of birds. This was...

Since you are an international tour leader who visits Costa Rica and other countries, regularly as a professional bird guide, this was for me by far the best review I have had the honor to receive for Rancho Naturalista. Your picturesque way of explaining about Rancho brings vivid detail as clear as a picture to my mind. The scenic mountains,...

My dad and I came to Rancho Naturalista for 2 days of birding in February 2017. It was some of the best birding of my life, all in a friendly and welcoming environment with excellent food and company. Our room (the Sunbittern room in the main lodge) was very, very nice, with its own porch equipped with hummingbird feeders and...

If you love birds and fun, come to Rancho Naturalista. During our two week stay here, we were made to feel like part of the family Lisa and Mario (owners) have enough energy for three people. Lisa took us to the market, and bought local treats for us to sample. She also hosted a cooking class, where we made (and...

Off the beaten track, and set half way up a jungle-clad mountain, the lodge is a wonderful base for walking and bird-watching. The bird-life is actually so prolific that you don't even have to leave the balcony to see scores of different species. The staff are friendly and welcoming (and mostly English-speaking - the owner is from USA), the meals...

We visited this lodge after reading many reviews of those who came before. We attempted to make our reservation one year in advance, but our dates were sold out. A testament to the popularity of this location. We shifted some dates around, and secured a five day reservation in January. We arrived after a very bumpy ride up their road...

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay here at Rancho Naturalista and we are so happy that you felt a warm welcome right from the start! Out first visit to Costa Rica and to a birding lodge. This lodge is situated at the top of a long winding narrow road. Its tucked well away so the only sound in that of the birds. We are glad you appreciated our hidden location, the sounds of the birds and the views from our balcony across the valley to the volcanoes beyond. The birds at Rancho Naturalista are fabulous, especially early in the morning – as you are keen birders, I am hoping that the wake up call was not such a bad thing! People who...

I recently spent 16 nights in Costa Rica, involving 11 different lodging establishments -- a whirlwind tour of a large portion of the country. Out of all those places, Rancho Naturalista was the most amazing & wonderful place I stayed. It's hard to know where to start in describing this gem. The staff were wonderful, the food was the best...
