The grounds are beautiful, the breakfast was pretty good, and I'm told there's a great view of the volcano however it was pouring buckets the entire time we were here and we couldn't see anything. The storms were so bad that the hotel (and all surrounding hotels and restaurants) lost power. But weather aside, I did quite like the hotel....

As said by many others, the place is run down a bit, rooms/bathrooms are spacy and clean as far as we were concerned. Breakfast basic but that seems to be the same everywhere in Costa Rica. Breakfast buffet usually run over by groups the minute they open it, which is at 7. If you are booked on a tour starting...

We had planned a one night stay here en route elsewhere. While I would not call it a mistake, there is little redeeming from this hotel. It is clean. However I'm writing this before 5am because these beds allow little sleep. This hotel might have been a gem in 1970 but its age definitely shows! The rooms are fine enough...

When I give these folks the highest rating it is important to remember that I am rating them against similar properties. It would not be fair to judge them at the standards set for resorts hotels changing 8 times the rate. Keeping that in mind, this was an absolutely gorgeous place. I am referring to the manicured gardens. Like a...

We have stayed here 4 times in the past 8 years with student groups. This place is very accommodating to many demands of students and parents. They are always polite, pleasant and wonderful to work with. The 2 pools are great to swim in, the grounds are gorgeous and there is no better view of Arenal Volcano. The fish is...

The hotel property is nice facing the Arenal Volcano. The room is big with a balcony and A/C. The bathroom is big enough with a jacuzzy. Even though, I think it needs some maintenance, the mirror had black spots and the sink seemed to be dirty. The TV is also small and old. The two pools are small but they...

The picture shown by Hotel Lavas Tacotal is very deceptive. From the pool, there is no unobstructed view of the volcano as shown. The pool is also not that nice. The room itself was ok and the balconies were nice. The staff was cordial and helpful. I was less than impressed with the bathroom. The shower faucet was hanging out...

This hotel has great views from the comfortable and roomy "cabins". The rooms were clean with A/C and ceiling fans. The front porches looking towards Arenal Volcano were great places to relax. The open air dining room was comfortable and the food was average. The staff were very accommodating and the service was friendly. It was located fairly close to...

It is fine not luxurious but clean and it has a great view on Arenal. Staff are great and everyone was really friendly. Very noisy if they have buses of people coming to stay for few nights then you realize that the walls are very thin and it could be very annoying. We did enjoy our stay.
