We paid 🤑74 for a private room with double beds and they didn't give a discount for my kids (6&10). I could have paid for a decent hotel with breakfast for that price!! This is a college hangout .. Which is fine. It's just not...More
Ok, I have stayed in tons of hostels but this one certainly felt more like a communal hotel. Everything was clean, quiet and the outside facilities were great. A big lounge with bar and comfortable couches and pillows next to the decent sized swimmingpool underneath...More
I got a private room at this hostel in the building that was at the back of the property and it was very quiet at night. Room had AC, TV, and great hot showers! Problably the best shower in 3 1/2 weeks in Central America!...More
Loved this place! The rooms were quiet and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was by far my favorite location to stay. They even helped with booking my next room. I was blown away by the total package.

I heard the shuttle was $50, but stayed in San Jose two days and took bus to backpackers. The La Fortuna Station was 2.5 hours from San Jose 7-10 station (at the corner of 7th and 10th avenue), I think it was $14 dollars. Could have been less. Google terminal7-10 for the schedule. Arneal Backpackers is 100 meters west on the main road from the station.

The check-in staff do leave at ten, and after that there's really just one overnight staff member to make sure the people coming in late at night have wristbands. If you're arriving late into San Jose (or elsewhere) I'd recommend overnighting there first and leaving the following morning. It's a fairly long drive anyway.
